M2: Assess the importance of employability skills and personal skills in the recruitment and retention of staff in a selected organisation.

This report is going to explain the importance of employability skills and personal skills in the recruitment and retention of staff in Tesco plc. Tesco PLC is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer headquartered in Cheshunt. They hold the number one position in UK grocery sector. This report gives indication of what needs to be met for Tesco plc to recruit   employees that are able to work efficiently in and remain in Tesco plc.

The retention of staff is important to businesses such as Tesco plc because retention saves costs of recruitment and training replacements in the long run. Retention means staff become more experienced over time and may give better service to customers. This suggests that keeping retention of staffs is important for Tesco plc because it means that staffs that have gained experience in working in their sector in Tesco plc have more knowledge of what they are doing which safes money for Tesco plc.

This makes recruitment crucial to get right because there could be some employees that aren’t reliable to commit to work or stay and work in the job because they might not like the wages they get; they might not like what they are doing in the job, etc. This is crucial because it means that the training that the business has spent on the recruitment. This gives indication that  

Recruiting staff without skills needed, means that they cannot do the job effectively or efficiently, this will also mean that the organisation will need spend money on training those kind of employees, however, recruiting staffs that have the skills to work effectively, efficiently and have the experience in the industry can Benefits an organisation, as this will save the business money into training a because they have the skills and experience to do the job.

Employability skills

 Employability skill is important in recruitment and retention of staff at Tesco plc because if an employee has employability skills then it will be easier and cheaper to employ employees that have experience in their particular job. For example if an employee was applying for the same job in same store but in a different location, they have more chance of getting the job than other since they have experiences in the job the employee has applied for. This indicates that having employability skills will give the organisation what the employees is capable of doing for the job, through qualifications, experience in the industry, experience in the job role etc.

High level of staffs

Higher levels of staffs such as a store director have a wide variety of staff roles and responsibilities within Tesco plc and need the right employee ability skill to be a store director. For example store directors are responsible for the store and the employees that work in Tesco plc.’s stores, and need the suitable qualifications, specific experience, having the knowledge about the industry etc. This indicates that employees wanting to be in the higher hierarchy, they will need to have the right employability skills to be a higher level of staff in the industry .

Low level of staffs

The lower levels of staffs have a wide variety of staff roles and responsibilities within Tesco plc.
