Computer science Even before the first computer was conceptualized, data had already been stored on hard copy medium and used with a machine. As early as 1801, the punched card was used as a control device for mechanical looms. One and one-half centuries later, IBM joined punched cards to computers, encoding binary information as patterns of small rectangular holes. Today, punch cards are rarely used with computers. Instead, they are used for a handful of train tickets and election ballots. Although some may find it surprising, a computer printout is another type of hard copy medium. Pictures, barcodes, and term papers are modern examples of data storage that can later be retrieved using optical technology. Although it consumes physical space and requires proper care, non-acidic paper printouts can hold information for centuries. If long-term storage is not of prime concern, magnetic medium can retain tremendous amounts of data and consume less space than a single piece of paper. The magnetic technology used for computer data storage is the same technology used in the various forms of magnetic tape from audiocassette to videocassette recorders. Analysis . Background to/identification of the problem I came up with my project idea through a problem my friend, a shop clerk, who runs a DVD rental shop, had faced. He used to rent out DVDs to his registered customers for the price of £1.50 for old DVD's and £3.00 for DVD's which are pretty new but the problem was that he had to do everything without a computer system which made his job quite difficult for him. So I have decided to make a system for his video rental shop as my project which would make it easier for him. The general environment is him behind a counter surrounded by loads of DVDs so he is the only person who works in the shop, there is no staff but sometimes when required, he may get someone to cover for him if needed. The current system in operation works by a customer registering with the rental shop first they then receive their unique membership number which they then quote every time they want to rent a DVD out and then pay the rental price for that DVD. The shop clerk then looks for this membership number through a file which contains all the registered customers and their membership numbers, arranged in order from smallest to biggest and every time a new customer registers they get the next available membership number with in the file. Describe the organisation and work of the people at Bletchley Park Bletchley Park was a large house which was split up into different sections containing people with different skills of code breaking. Bletchley Park was setup to receive messages from German operators that had been picked up by wireless stations in Britain. These listening posts were called the Y service, they then conveyed the messages to Bletchley Park otherwise known as station X. Bletchley Park began by revolving around two huts. One being Hut 6 which received signals and messages and attempted to decode them, the people working in hut 6 were Cryptanalysts/code breakers. They turned them into complete texts, a few words or sometimes just a few letters. The messages which had been decoded by hut 6 were sent by means of a wooden tunnel to hut 3 they were pushed through the tunnel with a broom handle. The people in hut 3 were intelligence officers and linguists, whose job it was to identify possible German words from mere letters or scraps of text sent from Hut 6. The messages grew, so the huts had to be manned twenty- four hours a day. There were three watches each with eight hour shifts. Hut 3 was manned by the head of the watch, whose job it was to hand out messages to the staff as they arrived. This was an important role because the head had to prioritize each message. Bletchley Park provided the allies with vital information towards their war effort. Bletchley Park was a small town Situated 50 miles North-West of London. Sir Leon, a London stock broker saw this location as an ideal place for an M16 evacuation base and government code and cipher school, which had been set up towards the later stages of the First World War. During the First World War code breaking had become important for the first time, messages were sent by wireless and Morse code so the government knew that it would have to be prepared with the second world war looming, they wanted to be able decode all enemy signals. After the government had chosen Bletchley Park an appropriate location it was given new roads, telephone lines, living quarters, water mains and everything that a self contained community would need because the key to Bletchley was it was to be secret. In this essay I will be describing the organisation of people at Bletchley Park. The need for Bletchley Park was clear. The academics were used to cracking codes by using the pencil paper method. They would simply study messages and look for similarities to try to builds up an idea of how the code was constructed.

Describe the organization and the Work of the people at Bletchley Park? Bletchley Park was the British home of military intelligence during the Second World War. It intercepted enemy messages, which would hopefully help them to win the war. These messages were written in code so the British Government employed Oxbridge Mathematicians to work day and night trying to break the code to read the messages. Along with the code breakers their were code readers who had to translate the code into text, Morse code operators who had to take down the text as it came through often having to write down up to 90 characters per minute, plus there were hundreds of filing clerks, runners. At the height of the war there were believed to be around 10,000 people working at Bletchley Park. Everybody at Bletchley Park had to swear to keep what he or she did a secret even from the other people who worked at Bletchley Park. The only people who had a clear picture of the work being done at Bletchley Park were the generals who controlled the operation and there still some parts that were even classified to them, all the workers were told was that the small piece they were doing made a bigger picture of the German movements. . My Logo Designs Design 1 Design 2 Design 3 All of my logos have been designed and made on www.logoyes.com My first design is simple, yet effective. It has a first aid plus sign with Howard Heath Centre written underneath it. To improve this design, I could have used a different colour contrast to make it stand out. My second design has an image of a heart with a heart rate on it. This logo will help the public to recognise HHC as a health centre because of the image. To improve this logo, I should change the colour of the 'hhc'. Finally, my third design is also quite simple and effective. The image has two letter 'h's' with a 'c' behind it. After investigating social networking sites (SNS) and their consequences on today's society, I have come up with different views and I was not able to decide whether they influence in a positive way or in the negative way. In my view if each SNS user considered some boundaries for themselves regarding their occupation or other matters, relating their age the use of SNS does not cause any threat or harm. The huge disadvantage of these sites is that we are not aware of the other person's true identity but as I said before by considering some boundaries, mean not providing confidential information we can secure us from different types of safety issues. Social Networking is a way which is used to socialize via the internet and portable devices. During my research I have read a Time online article "Is social networking a waste of time?" and found that in organisations the loss of productivity is because of employees multi-tasking between actual work and social network which I will discuss further on in this essay.
