Essay

Elizabeth Laird, the author of “A Little Piece of Ground” uses the setting of the cramped apartment which the Aboudi family lives in, to show how determined and persistent the family is. The small apartment highlights the traumatising pain which the family goes through, seeing the same walls and the same faces from sunrise and sunset is unimaginable and boring. The apartment also shows the lack of freedom which Palestinian people have. “why does nothing good ever happen to us?”  These young hopeless Palestinian boys are trapped in their own homes by Israeli soldiers. “Everyone in Ramallah had been trapped indoors for two weeks” They have no rights in the country, which is rightfully theirs, but there is absolutely nothing that they can do.
