Romeo & Juliet

Who Was To Blame For The Death's Of Romeo & Juliet? Romeo & Juliet is a play written by one of the most renowned, and utmost writers of all time, William Shakespeare, whom has created heaps of plays based on tragedies such as 'Romeo & Juliet', which is based on the concept of melancholy and deplorable events through out the play. Romeo and Juliet is about 'a pair of star-cross'd lovers', who express deep emotions with each other, and end up marrying in clandestine, whilst their households are buried in a prehistoric chasm of feud, which leads to the deaths of family members, and relatives. Inexorably like numerous amorous stories, leads Romeo and Juliet committing a suicide, due to a misunderstanding. Manifestly upon their deaths the two households avow to end the feud, and atrocities of their households once, and for all. In this subsequent essay I will give my opinions to why three out of many candidates may be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The primary aspect in this play is the bad blood between the Capulets, and Montague's, which any of their households could have congested at any time, yet nonetheless in an endeavour to put a impede to this Friar Lawrence took things in to his own hands, and tried to interlace a bond between the two households by marrying Romeo, and Juliet, however he does not stop think of the consequences he is creating by

Romeo & Juliet.

Romeo & Juliet After reading Act One Scene One and watching two different versions of Romeo & Juliet, have found the directors different ways of sticking to the original text both interesting and successful. The two different versions were Franco Zeffirelli's, which was filmed in 1968, and the more modern Buz Luhrman's version filmed in 1996. Zeffirelli's version was the more stereotypical 16th century-like version. The prologue uses a voice-over, with the music typical of music in Shakespeare's day. When the voice says, "start crossed lovers", the words "Romeo & Juliet" appear on the screen, this is to show the viewer that Romeo & Juliet's love can't be because of their ancestors "ancient grudge" Zeffirelli puts both families in liveries, both families coloured brightly so they stand out. They are both easily recognised and these liveries are Zeffirell's way of showing how they are "both alike in dignity" Zeffirelli has a lot of extras in the market where Scene One is set. When the quarrel breaks out, everyone there gets involved and starts to fight. I think this is Zeffirelli's way of showing that the conflict is not just between the Montagues and the Capulets; it's an on-going feud that everyone is involved in. Zeffirelli sticks to the text well, although he could be a bit more adventurous. He sets the movie in Verona, just like in Shakespeare's text. The main

Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream

Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's plays that are more 'light-hearted'. The play is entertaining and Shakespeare uses the genre of comedy to keep his audience interested. He uses several kinds of humour through out the play, and he covers three different storylines to make a complicated plot. The play includes: a love story, showing the changing relationships between four young people, a comic account of amateur actors struggling to rehearse and perform a very bad play, and a magical plot about a world of fairies, in which the king of the fairies (Oberon) quarrels with his queen. Shakespeare's choice of language enabled him to bring all kinds and classes of people into his plays, for example, Shakespeare uses romantic poetry with the lovers in the play and he develops a realism based on Christian folk plays with Bottom and his rustic comrades. It is Shakespeare's clever technique of writing that allowed him to create a play that is set in Athens, and includes nobility, fairies, and workmen. A Midsummer Night's Dream is an example of how different styles of writing, characters, and realms of experience can be combined into one play to create an amazing plot for a wide range of people to enjoy. Shakespeare's choice of language also allowed him to explore the natural and supernatural, and he was able to create personalities

Romeo and Juliet experience disaster in their lives partially due to inadequate parenting. Examine how each parent/carer copes with his/her role. Romeo and Juliet were set in Verona, where two families are enemies; they are enemies due to an 'ancient grudge' which has been powerful enough to keep the two lovers apart. The Montague's' son Romeo falls in love with the Capulet's daughter Juliet. Both Romeo and Juliet come from a society filled with hatred and fighting. Neither of the lovers can confront their parents, as they do not have a close relationship and have trouble communicating. However they both confront their carers as they help them through their lives. Romeo has Friar Lawrence and Juliet has the Nurse. Each child has to turn to their carers as their parents are unable to help them, but still both Romeo and Juliet commit suicide for each other's love. This may have been caused due to inadequate parenting as Juliet's parents are very distant and do not communicate as well as the Nurse and Juliet, whereas Romeo's parents struggle to communicate with him; this is shown when they ask Benvolio Romeo's cousin to find out what is bothering Romeo. Lord Capulet is the father of Juliet; he is a very domineering character who cannot control his actions fully. He is an inadequate parent as he does not communicate with her well, and he does not give her any independence, he

Romeo and Juilet

Romeo and Juilet In this assignment I will look at the characteristics of Romeo and Juliet and how the attitudes of the characters change over a short time in this play written by William Shakespeare. My first impressions of Romeo are that other people worry for him like his mother for example this quote "right glad I am he was not at this fray" His mother was glad he was away from the fight. Romeo says "ayme, sad hours seem long" this seems to me that Romeo has feelings that are getting him down. Romeo does allot of talking and thinking about his love, which is making him confused. "out of her favor where I am in love" this quotation means that Romeo loves Rosaline "why then, o brawing love, o loving hate" this suggests there is much confusion in there love. He also says "love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs" this suggests again that he is very depressed, confused and feared about his love towards Rosaline. Juliet's behavior and attitude when the audience first sees her looks like Juliet is confused about her feelings and her life. The play around Juliet starts with Paris, Paris is a wealthy young man of Verona and wishes for Juliet and him to be wed. Paris then asks Juliet's father. Juliet's mother then asks her what see is thinking of marriage, then Juliet replies "it is an honor I dream not of" Lady Capulet replies "this night you shall behold

To What Extent Does Death of a Salesman deal with modern issues such as materialism, consumerism, procrastination and alienation, in Act 1 of the play?

To What Extent Does 'Death of a Salesman' deal with modern issues such as materialism, consumerism, procrastination and alienation, in Act 1 of the play? 'Death of a Salesman' deals with many modern issues appropriate to the genre of tragedy. Materialism is an issue presented in the play as a flaw of the main character Willy Loman, who not only is far too materialistic, but places material importance on the wrong things. This is partly owing to the issue of consumerism, which has permeated his beliefs and actions. Willy Loman also procrastinates as a theme throughout the play, in various detrimental ways. The play presents Willy Loman as both the cause and casualty of alienation. All four issues are presented as societal products of the illusory American Dream and flawed American culture, and although none of them are the focus of the play, they pervade it significantly from beginning to end. Willy Loman could have attained happiness by following his dreams and doing something he was good at, like his father and brother did. Aside from being obvious that Willy is not happy or successful in his current occupation, it is expressed that Willy wishes he had gone with Ben to Alaska when he had the chance. For example, he says 'If I'd gone with him to Alaska that time, everything would've been totally different." Willy wanted to live the original concept of the 'American Dream',

The Reverend John Hale embodies the growing awareness of the illegality and immorality of the Salem witch trials.

The Reverend John Hale embodies the growing awareness of the illegality and immorality of the Salem witch trials. The crucible was a historical play based on events of the Salem witchcraft trials, which took place in the small Puritan village in the colony of Massachusetts in 1692. The whole play is about the abuse of power, characters were able to get revenge on neighbours whom they dislike simply by accusing them of witchcraft. The McCarthy trials, relates to the Salem witchcraft trials. During the 1950's Senator Joseph McCarthy accused many American leaders of being communists. This lead to many unfounded accusations that people were communists. Some people believed him because they were fearful of communism and he played on their fears. McCarthy was, in effect, conducting "witch hunts". If you opposed the Salem Witch trials you were accused of being a witch. If you opposed the McCarthy investigations you were accused of being a communist. However In the Crucible Reverend John Hale is considered to be, and considers himself, an expert on witchcraft. He is initially summoned to determine whether the devil is in Salem and enthusiastically participates in the court proceeding. As Hale enters the play, he walks in with a lot of books heavy books, "books of knowledge". He is shown to be a man who takes pride of his work and he came to Salem just to find a witch, he will not

The Role Of The Witches In Macbeth.

The Role Of The Witches In Macbeth Macbeth is a play created by William Shakespeare. He wrote the play in order to please King James I by entertaining his host, King Christian of Denmark. The play is strongly related to witchcraft and demonology. Audiences of its time believed without a doubt that witches did exist, unlike today where it is thought to be a myth by most. In the reign of Queen Elizabeth I witchcraft was recognised by law. In 1564 a law was passed making a murder by witchcraft punishable by death, thus acknowledging witches and their supernatural powers. This law was regularly enforced and in Scotland alone it is estimated that 8000 witches burned to death between 1564 and 1603. In 1604 an additional law was passed in Scotland, which stated that if anyone found guilty of practising witchcraft in any manner, should be executed. James I was acquainted with this phenomenon, when a coven of witches practised against him on a return voyage from Denmark to Scotland in 1590. He was almost shipwrecked. In the aftermath of his ordeal he published a treatise named Demonology in 1597. Shakespeare was quite sure that he could capture the minds of the King and play on his emotions by using witchcraft within his play. The witches open the play in Act one scene one on a deserted place with disruptive weather. This implies the unnatural negative atmosphere surrounding the

The Salem Witch Trials

The Salem Witch Trials: A Witch Hunt Then and Now The Salem Witch Trials of 1692 reveal the fears people have of the unknown. In Salem Massachusetts persecution prevailed from intolerance and lack of understanding, just as it does today in many towns across this great nation. While exploring the web sites of National Geographic, The University of Virginia, and PBS, I found information from the past that links to the present. "Witch Hunts", as they were called in 1692, still exist today. The term "Witch Hunt" is not used as forcefully. Today a Witch Hunt can be disguised as slander, rumors, defamation of character, abuse, or even Christian love. The premise is still the same. Fear of the unknown, differentiating ideas or ideals, even a person's status or their point of view. These fears can lead to the persecution and intolerance that we see in the Witch Hunts and Trials of 1692 and today. In using dictionary.com to comparing the word Witch Hunt with words such as slander, and defamation I found the definitions to be very close and convey the same ideas and results. Witch Hunt - an intensive effort to discover and expose disloyalty, subversion, dishonesty, or the like usually based on slight, doubtful or irrelevant evidence. n. An investigation carried out ostensibly to uncover subversive activities but actually used to harass and undermine those with differing
