For some years, the issue of same-sex marriage has been at the top of any list of leading secular controversies throughout the world. Same-sex marriage refers to a social union between two persons of the same biological sex. When it comes to whether gay marriage should be legalized in modern society, people from various social backgrounds hold different views towards it.

Stepping into the 21st century, a number of countries and various other jurisdictions have begun legally recognizing LGBT rights and formalizing same-sex marriages. With an increase in the awareness of respecting cultural diversity, it seems that same-sex marriage becomes an irreversible global trend. In my opinion, gay marriage should be legalized so as to protect the basic human rights of homosexuals.

In such a sophisticated society, there is no denying that the living style of homosexuals has gradually been accepted by mainstream communities. Nonetheless, some hard-line opponents, especially right-wing Christians, thwart the legalization of same-sex marriage based on religious perspectives. They believe that as marriage is a divine institution between the opposite sexes, same-sex marriage is no difference from violating God’s will.
