public privet and volentry sector.

Public sector. Public sector services are provided for the public and collectively paid for by the government. Their operation is ultimately accountable to elected bodies, including local council and parliament. The public sector regards the provision of leisure service as a social service to the community rather than as a profit-making venture. Consequently local authorities usually provide subsidised, or in some cases free, services for the communities they serve. In so doing they cater for the needs of gropes such as school children, young mothers, the unemployed the disable and the elderly. The public sector can be at one of two levels: national government or local government. The latter includes county councils, metropolitan councils, unitary authorities and district council. Historically, national government has seldom been a direct provider of leisure facilities in the UK its main task is to make the laws which govern their provision and provide assistance to a wide range of organisations representing the leisure and recreation industry. The government has four main functions: Planning and control: setting the boundaries for leisure provisions to ensure that development of the industry is in line with government policies Marketing: promoting the benefits of leisure activities. Financial provision: providing funding through distribution of government monies

Critical Apreaciation - the bridge

Critical Appreciation This text is an excerpt from The Idea of Perfection by Australian author Kate Grenville. The excerpt is taken from the passage where Douglas Cheeseman, a structural engineer contemplates the craftsmanship and surroundings of the bridge. The first thing we can say about this text is the importance of lexical fields. Indeed, by looking at the excerpt's word cloud and by connecting words with the same connotations, we end up with four lexical fields. The first one is nature which is represented with words such as "organic", "stones" "timbers" "water", "trees", "sand", "dragonfly", "branches", "pool", "bubbling" etc. This lexical field gives a sense of the bridge blending into the nature surrounding it as it is itself made of "timber". This lexical field also gives the reader the sense of the bridge being a ... bridge between men and nature so that the men who have lost this connection through the generations can make it live again. It also creates an appeasing atmosphere for the reader. Another lexical field which is represented in this excerpt is one of craftsmanship, skill and community. Indeed, this lexical field integrates words such as "workmanship", "engineering", "cabinetwork", "built", "carpenters", "working", "company, "men", "bridge", "worth doing" etc. This gives the reader the feeling that this bridge was not built just as a means of

Tools and Techniques Paper

Tools and Techniques Paper MGT/350 Critical Thinking Group Number LM04BSM01 Introduction A Pareto Chart is a series of bars whose heights reflect the frequency or impact of problems. The bars are arranged in descending order of height from left to right. The tall bars on the left are more significant than the small bars on the right. Pareto analysis is a very simple technique that does not require any statistics to use. Pareto analysis helps you choose the most effective changes to make no matter what problem you are having. The Pareto principle is known as the 80 / 20 rule, since 20 percent of something is always are responsible for 80 percent of the results. Project Managers know that 20 percent of the work (the first 10 percent and the last 10 percent) consume 80 percent of your time and resources. Pareto analysis is a formal technique for finding the changes that will give the biggest bang for the buck. It separates the "vital few" from the "trivial many". It is useful where many possible courses of action are competing for your attention. Application of Pareto Charts At Ducommun Aerostructures we use Pareto charts frequently. They are incorporated into what we call I-Charts, or Information Charts. Pareto Charts are employed because you can analyze them at a glance. The Pareto Chart is a good example of the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words". We have

Skateboarding is a popular sport throughout the United Kingdom.

Skateboarding is a popular sport throughout the United Kingdom. It is taken up by both young and old people to pass time, stay out of trouble and in some cases even as a job. Very often there is a very negative stereotype going around about skateboarders, the stereotype is that skateboarders are bad people. That criticism is mostly aimed at the younger skateboarders. There are a countless older people think that younger skaters are out to cause trouble. In some places skateboarding is illegal and you can get fined or even arrested. On the other hand it can be very noisy, annoying and sometimes slightly destructive. Fair enough some skateboarders do cause trouble, most of the time the trouble is caused by boredom. They get bored because they do not actually have a place to skate that they do not get kicked off of. The amount of local skate parks is insufficient. The amount of skate parks around the Bournemouth area few and that is probably the main reason for the stereotype that is going around. The majority of the time the skateboarders get bored and they cause trouble. After that it is not long until the word goes round that skateboarders are bad people. Another reason for that stereotype is that some skateboarders are skating somewhere and someone will either stay inside because they are scared (this is mostly elderly people), they would phone the police

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO EXPLORE ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF ENERGY?

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO EXPLORE ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF ENERGY? In today's rapidly developing world, vast amounts of energy resources are being utilized at an alarming rate, one which can certainly result in the extinction of our valuable natural resources. Moreover, majority of the energy resources utilized today are non-renewable natural resources like the petroleum products which account for nearly eighty percent of all the energy resources used. Thus, exploring alternative forms of energy so as to decrease our dependency on non-renewable forms of energy and consequently save the environment, has become more important than ever before. Today, energy resources used especially, the petroleum products, and in some developing countries like Nepal, fuel wood, are major sources of Green House Gases (GHG), which is the prime cause of climate change. The threat of climate change to the whole of mankind is greater today than ever before. Rapid utilization of Earth's valuable resources has caused an imbalance in its delicate natural processes, thereby accelerating the rate of climate change, which is in fact a natural phenomenon. Thus, although climate change is a natural process, the alarming rate at which it is being noticed today has posed a serious thereat to the existence of mankind as we know it. And, almost all the credit of this danger lurking in our life goes to the over

Internship Journal

. OVERVIEW Bill Gates once said "if I was down to my last dollar, I'd spend it on public relations". Such a statement, particularly from an entrepreneur so renowned in the business arena, is no doubt a sparkling endorsement for the industry. Regardless, it is only after two internships with Verve Communications in 2009 and the Sydney Kings in 2010 that I feel I have gathered the understanding and experience to realise how poignant such a declaration is - arguably even more so in a fledgling economic climate. In the following report, while focusing primarily on The Sydney Kings resurrection, I will draw on the knowledge gained and lessons learned in the first few weeks of my internship in 2010. In doing so, I will consider how both theoretical and practical elements of the BA Communications (Public Relations) degree have impacted upon and assisted me during my experience at the Kings. It is these original understandings that have enabled me to be a part of the successful PR team, and hence understand the true value of public relations. 2. ACTIVITIES AND LEARNING Be thrown in at the deep end and you will learn to swim. When considering my first few weeks at Sydney Kings, it is this idiom that constantly reemerges. Within my first day at work in 2010, I had participated in meetings, written my first press release and helped allocate season ticket holders their seats. For

Is Space Exploration Morally Justified?

Is Space Exploration Morally Justified? Columbia Space shuttle On February the first, 2003, the Columbia space shuttle broke up as it re-entered the earth's atmosphere. The astronauts onboard the shuttle all tragically died. The accident left people wandering if mankind's urge to explore and need to understand has gone too far or is the Columbia Space shuttle crash just a set back in the long and ever ambitious programme for space exploration? What happened to the seven astronauts on the Columbia space shuttle is a tragedy. However, I am not someone who believes that we were destined to explore space and I believe it has nothing to do with fate and even if it were destined that mankind is to become a space exploring race, then a strategy would not involve active participation in accomplishing that fate. We should continue to explore space as we have gained a substantial amount of useful information and will continue to which may affect the way we live our lives. Some people believe that space exploration is too dangerous. The technology is relatively untested and should be examined to a closer degree to stop disasters such as the Columbia space shuttle from happening. This could be seen as a valid argument because there is a long list of accidents that have occurred which are related to space exploration. However, each astronaut will accept that their job is dangerous and
