Health Promotion Task

For my health promotion task, I decided to choose the “Girls make your move” campaign. The campaign was developed by the Australian Government in 2016.

The main aim of the campaign is to make younger women feel inspired and able to become more active and healthier regardless of size or ethnicity. It also wanted to show that sport and physical activity is positive and a safe space for girls to try new things regardless of their current skills. They tried to influence more teenage girls to do more physical activity. The reason why they needed girls to play more sport was because of the national average. In 2017–18 the proportion of women who weren’t physically active enough were 1 in 2 women aged 18–24 (52%). The campaign attempts to achieve this goal by creating a video showing off various different sports and girls. This video was turned into a commercial which was put on air on television.

In the video, there were three features I believe were most successful in encouraging young women to get active. One of these was social media, they took something that we use everyday to get them to be motivated and focus on the positives of social media also instead of the negatives. They also used social media to get more women playing sports recognised. This combats how in the past sport between men vs women wasn’t equal and also fights stereotypes that women are bad at playing sports.
