Describe how relations between the two super powers worsened between 1959 and the summer of 1962

I am going to describe how the relationship between the two Super powers worsened between the 1959 to the summer of 1962. The relations between the super powers worsened due a cold war.

The cold war was a period of tension, conflict and competition between the world's Super-Powers (USSR and USA) during 1945 to the mid 1990s.Even though the two super powers fought as allies in WW2 against each other they had different ideologies. Their economies were different USA was capitalist while the USSR was communist.

They disagreed about the shape of the post war world. In the cold war the two super powers didn't actually fight each other instead they competed with each other over, nuclear arms which saw both countries build atomic bombs that could literally destroy the world , they also had a space race; a race which saw the USA go to the Moon first.

There was also the U-2 Crisis which was an American spy plane been shot down over the soviet union, Berlin Blockade, and the Cuban Missile Crisis which nearly led to a third world war.

USSR wanted to take control of Berlin. But it was ineffective because the westerners instead formed the Berlin Airlift

There were so many tensions and periods of rivals in the cold war. Also there was the Korean War which lasted 6 years but the main period of tension was the Cuban missile crisis.

The Cold War came to a close in the late 1980s and the early 1990s with the Soviet Union collapsing in 1991 leaving the USA as the main sole Super- Power in the World
