Information and Communications Technology is widespread in modern society; indeed it's quite difficult to come up with any sphere of human activity where it is not used. If you study ICT at A level you'll be covering a wide range of topics such as applications software, information systems, the social impact of ICT, networks, disaster recovery and human-computer interfaces. In your final year you will be undertaking an ICT project on behalf of a real customer with real requirements and you'll be involved in planning and scoping a solution, developing the software, and testing and evaluating it.

One thing you will need is a good level of literacy skills as the assessments and coursework do involve report-writing and essays. Marked by Teachers have hundreds of essay examples, many of which have been marked and reviewed by expert ICT teachers. It's a resource through which you can gain valuable insight into what examiners are looking for in a good ICT essay.

If you studied ICT at GCSE then you'll find the A level an enjoyable and straightforward transition, as well as being good preparation for further study in IT.

Conclusion analysis

Good conclusions usually refer back to the question or title and address it directly - for example by using key words from the title.
How well do you think these conclusions address the title or question? Answering these questions should help you find out.

  1. Do they use key words from the title or question?
  2. Do they answer the question directly?
  3. Can you work out the question or title just by reading the conclusion?
  • To What Extent Was the Poor Law a New Poor Law?

"The new poor law was a new poor law. Due to social, political, and economical circumstances, it was necessary for the time, as the old system was ineffective, inefficient, and bad for the poor. The new laws meant that there were tighter controls over the parishes and the poor; this made less chance of uprisings and rebellions. I agree similarly to the ideas of Digby; recent investigations on the Old Poor Law have produced convergent conclusions. They emphasise that relief under the Old Poor Law was essentially a response to population growth, under-employment, and low wages, rather than their causes as the Royal Commission's report alleged."

  • - Evaluate a given system specification (hardware and software) in respect of its ability to create and edit graphic images and detail potential improvements and consequent benefits

"In conclusion the essay set out the different benefits and limitations to Firework in its ability to create and edit graphic images. Whether it is useful or not will depend on the situation and purpose of the user themselves, but personally as a IT student I think Firework is a good tool to use for creating and editing graphic as the benefit definitely exceed the limitations."

  • Evaluate the tools and techniques used to create finished animations

"Conclusion Overall I don't think that fireworks is a very good animation making program, everything just seems a little static to me, and there is not much going on. I prefer the flash animation over this because you are able to create animations allot faster than you can with the others. I believe that Photoshop is a very good animation program but it is hard to use. Really i don't think that fireworks is very good, it's ok for beginners to show them how animations work and how to create them but that's pretty much it."
