Specification Introduction 1.1 Background I have created this database for a local secondary school called The Connaught School. The database is being created to be used by any member of staff working at the school. The Connaught school is located in Hampshire in the Town of Aldershot. The database will be used to store pupils GCSE grades they received in the 2007 exams. It will also contain list of subjects and personal information. The school has open for over thirty years and was originally called Heron wood. The school contains an estimated two and half thousand pupils and year eleven consists of three hundred pupils. In Addition searching for files can be very time consuming. As the school is tremendously busy they have no time to waste. Throughout this process the files can get easily mixed up which creates a major setback. Also as it comes to making reports for each pupil it is awfully difficult and the calculations can be hard to work out. Another problem is that the files are stored in an overly large filing cabinet which takes up a great deal off room. This is not ideal as it will eventually run out of space and furthermore there is no room to expand. The files can also become dusty and tattered which leads to the files becoming unreadable, in addition to this the files are not backed up. The main problem the school faces is that the files are misplaced or lost which is not uncommon. The school can no longer afford to cope with theses problems. By creating this data base for The Connaught school it allows all pupils information to be stored such as pupil ID and GCSE Grades. ...read more.
