One ICT system, which is used in shops, is CCTV (Closed Circuit Television), this is a device, which records what goes on in the work place. It reduces the risk of theft, and if this does occur it gives proof/evidence, to those investigating the theft, of who it is. CCTV is not just used in shops it is also used in schools, big businesses, public places i.e. footpaths, and even in homes. Without CCTV the environment in which we live in would be a lot more of a dangerous place, and would also make it hard for people to run a business; due to the risk of theft and burglaries.
Like CCTV most work places and homes contain alarm systems. These systems are provided so that if there is ever a break-in/burglary the alarm sounds off to make people aware of the break-in, and make the burglar alarmed. Some alarm systems have more advantages than others, for example when the alarm goes off the signal is sent to the police station and they come out to the registered address to check things out. These alarm systems are very good and make people feel secure; it also stops them from worrying about leaving their property. However one disadvantage is that they go off with the slightest movement, and they are very expensive – but people and employers feel they are worth the security.
To help make life easier for workers most places now contain computers. The computer contains all the details needed i.e. stock lists, customer details etc. The idea of using computers in the work place is to make life easier for the employer/employee, it also looks more professional. Computers also use up less space than paper based files and save a lot of time. However, employees may have to go on training to learn how to use certain software packages that will be used in their current jobs. This is not a disadvantage of computers because it means that the training will improve the employees working style – their working hours and no hassle of paper based files.
For adults to keep in contact with their work colleagues they can email each other. Emailing saves some much time and hassle, colleagues can email each other as often as they like and get a reply within seconds, this does not happen by post. This means colleagues can keep in contact about everything from meetings to booking days off work.
Computers and emailing are just two of many ways in which ICT systems help adults in their employment. Another thing that helps adults in their employment is laptops. Laptops can be carried around from place to place, this makes it easier for those going to meetings; they don’t have to hand write it and then struggle to read their work later on.
Like laptops mobile phones are another portable device, they help those who have to travel a lot as part of their job. Mobile telephones mean that people can be contacted wherever they are, and they can contact others if they needed to. This system helps adults in their employment a lot, they can have close contact to those they work with and the mobile phones are also available for emergency’s.
Above I have listed and explained several ICT systems that help adults in their employment. I have explained CCTV, Alarm systems, Computers, Laptops, Emailing and Mobile Telephones in this report; and from this report it shows me how much adults depend on ICT systems in their employment.
