Explain the personal attributes valued by employers of IT personnel.

Transfer-Encoding: chunked Unit 1 ICT - P1 I am working in careers advice for IT personnel. I have been asked to produce a small booklet on valued employee attributes and communication barriers. I will write a report explaining the personal attributes valued by employers. Attitudes Determination Determination is very important in the workplace as it shows that they are able to get on and complete the work without getting distracted. Determination is also great when facing problems as the employee will be determined to finish the task and will try everything to overcome any problems that may prevent them from their end goal. Whilst on my internship at BP I was very determined to finish the work and I didn’t allow anything to distract me from completing the work. This allowed me to complete more work in the time frame I was given which was very useful to my team. Independence Independence is also a very important soft skill to have in the workplace. Employees will be expected to complete tasks on their own without any help from others. Employees need to think for themselves and not rely on other people to tell them what they have to do next. At BP I showed independence by making meetings with people I needed specific information rather than waiting for someone to come to me. Also when I was given tasks, I would work on it alone and if I got to problems I would

Evaluate the performance of a computer system and explain and justify improvements that could be made to a computer system.

Transfer-Encoding: chunked Task 4 – M3 & D2 Introduction My recommendations for the new PCs and software have been accepted by the senior leaders at Feltham Community College. I have been asked to set up the new computer system and ensure that all items are installed correctly. The computers needed to be suitable for pupils who are visually impaired as asked by the SEN department. Meaning I had to change the user settings to make using the computer suitable and easy for the pupils to use. Mouse I changed the mouse settings in many different ways. Firstly, I changed the size and colour of the mouse. I did this by going to the control panel and then to ease of access. I chose to go for the extra-large black colour. This is because it makes the mouse easy to see as it is large and bold. This will make it easy for the user to use and will be able to navigate easily around the screen. In addition, I changed the mouse visibility to long. This is because if the pointer was short it may be difficult for the user to be able to use the computer; they have vision problems therefore if it disappears too quickly they won’t be able to see it. Furthermore, I changed the motion of the pointer to be slow to medium. This is because again it will allow the user to navigate more easily as it won’t be moving too fast that they cannot keep up. Keyboard I chose to allow the on

Explain the purpose of operating systems

Transfer-Encoding: chunked P2- explain the purpose of operating systems Operating System An operating system is the most important program that runs the computer. The operating system runs other programs and performs basic tasks, for example, recognizing the input from the keyboard, sending the output to the display screen, keeping track of files and controlling peripheral devices like disk drives and printers. An operating system allows you to communicate with computer hardware. Without a operating system you wouldn’t be able to perform actions on the computer as it would have no instructions to follow. It is almost like a translator between the user and computer; the processor can only understand 0s and 1s, however programs we use now are in high level language like java. It’s the operating system job to change the programs into 0s and 1s so that the hardware can follow the instructions and you can use the computer. Data Management Data management allows you to keep track of all the data stored on the computer or other storage devices. The application programs deals with the data by file name and location. The operating system’s file system knows where the data is stored and interacts with the application program. When data needs to be retrieved or saved, the application system cooperates with the operating system which opens, reads, writes and closes

Explain the function of computer hardware components

Transfer-Encoding: chunked P1 - Explain the function of computer hardware components Computer A computer is an electronic device which handles information or data. The computer sees this information in 1’s and 0’s but can change it into more complex things like a photo, website or game. Computers use a combination of hardware and software. The hardware contains all of the internal components like the processor and the motherboard and even external components like the monitor and keyboard. The software is anything that gives the hardware a set of instructions, for example, web browser or word processor. Computers do not just have to be the desktop or laptop computers. Tablets, phones and game consoles are also types of computers although they do not do as many tasks as a desktop or laptop computer can do. Hardware Hardware is the physical components that make up a computer system. Hardware in a computer includes, the processor, motherboard, BIOS, heat sink, fan, IDE, SATA, parallel and serial ports, ROM, RAM and cache internal memory, hard drive, network card, graphics card and the power supply. All of these components communicate with each other and the software allowing tasks to be completed by the user. Processor The processor more known as the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is a small chip; it is the main intelligence of the computer and controls everything

Explain how Tescos use information

Transfer-Encoding: chunked Explain how organisations use information Types of information Qualitative – Qualitative data is data that characterises but does not measure with numbers. Qualitative data describes whereas quantitative data defines. Quantitative – Quantitative data can be quantified and verified in a statistical manipulation. Quantitative data defines whereas qualitative describes. Primary – primary data is data observed or collected directly from first-hand experiences. This information can be relied upon because you know where it had come from. For example, surveys, interviews or questionnaires. Secondary – Secondary data is data that is collected from other people; this information is less reliable as it’s from an unknown source for example, internet and books. Purpose of information Operational support - Tesco will need to use information to track how many items they have to sell. They will use EPOS which stands for electronic point of sale; it is an automated till system used in many shops and restaurants. Tesco will use tills to monitor how many products are sold and if they need restock or reorder more items. When monitoring and controlling its activities Tesco can make immediate use of information from its operational support systems. When a customer purchases an item the EPOS system will track this and the data will be stored and

Describe the features and functions of information systems and explain how an organisation could improve the quality of its business information

Transfer-Encoding: chunked Describe the features and functions of information systems and explain how an organisation could improve the quality of its business information Input – input to information systems works in two ways. The first way is detailed data. This is sorted and processed and makes the basis of the output from the system. The second part is when the user tells the system what sort of analyses they want form the system. Storage – Data should be stored at the most detailed level. IT departments will have to make sure to have backups of the data in case anything happens to the original copies. Processing - Processing is the method that turns data into information. There is simple and complex processing. Simple processing is adding all the items sold by a supermarket and producing totals. Complex processing is a computer program that does complex calculations and makes assumptions about missing data. Output – outputs can be in two formats, graphical and textual. A graphical output is used for seeing the bigger picture, usually presented as charts, diagrams or pictures. Textual is used when data needs to be analysed in detail; it’s often presented in text and numbers. Control and feedback loops - Control and feedback loop is what happens in a business as a result of the output of the information system. Closed and open systems – a closed loop

Examine the social implications of e-commerce on society

Transfer-Encoding: chunked I have been asked to produce a guide covering the regulations related to e-commerce and the implications of e-commerce on society. I will write a report examining the social implications of e-commerce on society. E-commerce is Electronic commerce, commonly written as e-commerce, is the trading or easing of trading in products or services using computer networks, such as the Internet. Bricks and clicks is a jargon term for a business model by which a company integrates both offline (bricks) and online (clicks). Additionally, many will also offer telephone ordering and mobile phone apps. E-commerce has many advantages and disadvantages to it. The main issue is the customer’s perception of trading online. The media broadcast stories that could deter customers from shopping online such as identity theft and items not being delivered which makes the customer distrust online stores. A site should offer specific things to attract customers. They should have value, not only lower prices but also products that won’t be available in stores. They should also offer 24 hour delivery times for a small extra cost and open 24/7 and accessible from home to make it easy for customers to shop. This means that customers who live in more remote areas where Brick shops are rare, can still shop and buy goods. E-commerce is becoming even more popular and

Evaluate the use of e-commerce in a brick and click organisation

Transfer-Encoding: chunked Evaluate the use of e-commerce in a ‘brick and click’ organisation Brick and click indicates that business has shops (brick means physical presence) and also deals online (click means internet presence. My chosen organisation is Asda as they operate online and in store. Asda is a private limited company and provides goods and services which customers require in their daily life. Asda started online in 1998 and has now expanded all over the UK. Asda provide many services including grocery, general products and financial services with over 140,000 employees. ASDA’s headquarter is based in Leeds, UK. And has 532 retail store locations within the UK. Asda's operating profits increased by £51m to £857m on sales of £21bn in 2015. There are many reviews from third party sites which show mixed reviews for the online store, some include: By bringing e-commerce into Asda has many great effects on the company but also has many negative. Having ecommerce in Asda will affect the customers because they will then be able to sell everywhere in the UK and Ireland which means they can target a larger audience. Another, advantage of online trading is that Asda would be able to target the customer who are disable or don’t have time to visit local store. Again it helps Asda to increase their customers. Without e-commerce Asda will only be able to sell

Compare Electronic Cheques and Digital Payment services payment systems used by e-commerce systems.

Transfer-Encoding: chunked Electronic Cheques are a system that transfers money electronically from the buyer’s current account to the seller’s bank account. E-cheque services are provided by high street banks such as HSBC and Santander. One benefit is that it allows instant payment. With electronic checks, customers can receive instant acknowledgement of their payments. It also increases efficiency, lower costs and environmental benefits. Processing payments online removes the need for stamps and envelopes, which saves time, money and reduces the amount of paper used which benefits the environment. Businesses who employ electronic cheques spend less money in processing fees which lets the business put more money on other important operations. A disadvantage of using electronic cheques means there is not “float” time. This is the time before the money is debited. Money is instant through electronic cheques which means the customer doesn’t have any time to get funds in their bank account. Due to insufficient funds in an account e-cheques are usually “bounced”. This causes delays in payment which then delays the time the product is provided by the business. As computers process the electronic cheques. Hackers can gain access to your banking information. Some fraudulent businesses also offer electronic banking which also means they can gain baking information.

Compare different payment systems used by e-commerce systems.

Transfer-Encoding: chunked A card payment is when a customer uses a card is used to pay for things. It can be a debit card which take the money directly from your bank. Or a credit card which borrows money from the bank which will need to be payed later with interest. Card payments can be made with banks such as Barclays’s or Lloyds Bank. Card payments are time efficient because they are processed electronically therefore eliminating the need to make physical bank deposits. In addition, it increases service levels. Card payments are quicker, more convenient. The business could also offer additional services such as automatic currency conversion to your customers. Not is also easy to handle. Understanding of card payments is more reliable and less complex than accounting for cash or cheque payments. Using card payments means there will be guaranteed payments. Funds are available for payment immediately therefore also reduces business risk. There is also high protection. Card payments provide a guard against counterfeit money. Similarly, payments by card reduce the amount of cash on the premise. There is higher average sales amounts. Credit card payments enable card holders to make purchases and pay for them at a later date which often leads to higher total spending at the point of sale. Similarly, accepting card payments will encourage impulse shopping in customers as
