Punk Rock Music Club Business Coursework

Identification Introduction I am going to create a database for a music club called the 'Punk Rock Music Club'. The word database means a collection of information that is organised as a list. A database that is stored on a computer is much more flexible and useful than a simple list that is kept on a piece of paper because it can be sorted, manipulated and printed without the need of re-input (re-written). I intend to create a database by using Microsoft Access. In Access, a database consists of tables. The tables are linked by their relationships to one another. The word table means a place where you store information related to a specific part of your work. 'Punk Rock Music Club' The 'Punk Rock Music Club' offers a wide variety of punk rock music. CD's, tapes and even mini discs can be borrowed. This club works the same as any other music or movie rental club e.g. Blockbuster movie rentals. Up to 5 items can be borrowed at a time. First, you have to be a member. Each member has his/hers own private movie rental card with his/hers own personal club member code. The problem The club has been recently using Microsoft Excel to create databases. Excel is an effective database package but it lacks flexibility. The information can be viewed but not very easily. The Excel package is unreliable. I intend to solve this problem by creating databases using Microsoft Access.

ICT Security Report

SECURITY INTRODUCTION In this day an age with many companies and well-known organisations functioning online as well as in many towns and cities. In order to attract and gain customers to accumulate business they must try and obtain their customer's confidence and trust. They try to do this by demonstrating that they take such dangers to data security incredibly seriously. Throughout this report I will identify and break down numerous threats and discuss methods by which these online associations can protect themselves from these data security threats. As of the 22nd August 2008 the number of breaches through this current stands at a total of 449. This is considered to be a rather small number compared to the number business, governmental, health, banking and educational entities that have databases. Though this has surpassed the total taken from 2007, which were 446. Although, the number has not increased by a huge amount we can still observe that identity theft continues to rise year by year. As an example, the transactional website I studied, Play.com hold a variety of information about myself such as my name and address and then my card details which I would use to pay for the items. For this to be held by the company you must believe that the site is incredibly safe and that you have great confidence with buying with this company. INTERNAL THREATS There are a

Electoral College Reform.

Electoral College Reform By David Timan January 6, 2003 At one time, it was impractical for the People to vote directly for their President, but times have changed. The People of the United States of America are now left with the Electoral College, an ineffective and at times obstructive system of electing their president. I propose that the obsolete Electoral College be abandoned and that a more democratic popular vote system be used. The need for such a change is very evident when one examines the possibility in the system for the most popular candidate to lose, the ridiculous nature of the congress choosing the President in a case of no majority and the unnecessary complexity of the system. The possibility for the Presidential Candidate with the majority of the popular vote to loose an election is ever present in this ridiculous system. Three times in American history, democracy has been defeated in this way by the Electoral College. Occurring in 1876, 1888 and most recently in 2000, such a catastrophe cannot be taken lightly. In each of these cases, the second place candidate (by electoral college votes) received more popular votes than the candidate who was sworn into office did. If Abraham Lincoln correctly described the United States, as a, "government of the people, by the people, for the people," in his Gettysburg address, then why is the direct choice

Capital Radio

Capital Radio Capital Radio use I.C.T to promote their business online. They also use a lot of technology in their studio, for example to organise their play list of songs, to organise jingles and advert times. In the Advertising department they use ICT to listen to adverts to see if the adverts that are going to be used are ok to put on air. The Dj's in the Studio have there own account on the computer in the Studio so they can read the emails the listeners have sent. One of the most important things they use is a huge machine that can hold one of the biggest record collections In the world, This makes the Dj,s job easier to select songs for the listeners who want them. So they use ICT for that as well. ICT is important to Capital because every person who works there has their own computer so when they work it is less time consuming. Capital Radio uses ICT to record people's interviews/demos of songs in their studio. The new generation of radio (DAB) has made Capital radio use ICT to make their station and owned stations to sound better. A very important thing to Capital Radio are their share holders. They use ICT so that they can show if their shares go up or go down, on the internet. They use ICT on their website to give people news updates, Music news, and Company info. They allow people to post their thoughts about the radio station and let people

Electoral Reform it

Politics: When looking at Electoral Reform it is important to understand that there are many factors that effect whether a particular electoral system is effective in producing the results it is needed to. For example, in some situations it is important for the results to be conclusive, to sway in one particular direction so that things can be implemented. Yet in other situations it does not matter because people are only voting for one of two options and results are therefore conclusive and can only go one way or the other. Therefore it is important that there are different electoral systems because not all systems would be suited to the situation. Due to first past the post being seen as an unrepresentative voting system there are many supporters of electoral reform. However, when thinking about Electoral Reform it is important to note that anyone who has power is unlikely to want to give it away. Therefore due to this, those who can get to power by first past the post (Labour) will not want reform, and those who cannot get to power by first past the post (Liberal-democrats and other minority parties) will want it. Yet even though first past the post is unrepresentative due to the constituent candidates it is however very effective at being able to produce decisive governments. It is a plurality system, and this way parties can campaign with a clear manifesto and

Using Search Engines

Task 1 Using Search Engines Introduction In this task I have been asked to research for a website by using a search engine that I think is best suitable for the research. In this research I will be finding a weather station website that contains forty years of data on rainfall. The reason for why I want this is because I need to see whether there has been a decrease or an increase in rainfall. In order to do find the website I will have to type in specific words and phrases into the search engine; to tell the search engine what exactly I'm looking for. As part of the task I will also have to use logical operators which are, AND, NOT and OR to search for the website. I will be explaining each of the logical operators in detail below: - AND: - In search engines they automatically put this is a search so you don't really need to put it in the search bar. So if you put in a search like 'birds bees,' it will put in AND to make 'birds and bees' and will only bring back websites that have 'birds and bees' in the website. OR: - In a search this would bring up more websites. For example if I put in a search like birds or bees, it will bring up sites with just birds in it, websites with just bees in it and websites that have both Birds and bees. So by using OR it brings back more websites. NOT: - By using NOT, it will dismiss anything I put after NOT. So for example if I put

Making Reference To Leading Alternative Systems, Critically Assess the Case For Electoral Reform In the Uk.

MAKING REFERENCE TO LEADING ALTERNATIVE SYSTEMS, CRITICALLY ASSESS THE CASE FOR ELECTORAL REFORM IN THE UK. Voting and elections are essential for true democracy. A democracy is a political system were everyone within that system has the right to have a say on how the system is run. Whilst direct democracy is impractical, representative democracy can be as good. Instead of having 30,000 people having their say on each issue that comes to their attention, one representative can try his/her best to sum up the feeling of their constituency overall on the matter at hand. This both saves a lot of time and also means that the representative must work to ensure that he retains the vote of the electorate to retain his/her seat in the representative assembly. The current system of voting representatives for general elections in the UK is the 'first past the post' or 'simple majority' system. The UK is split into different geographic locations, called constituencies. These constituencies have approximately the same population. As people constantly move, the boundaries of these constituencies have to be altered from time to time to ensure people are receiving fair representation, and in the UK this is done by the Boundary Commision. One candidate will be elected from each constituency to represent it in the House of Commons. The winning candidate needs only a majority of the

Developing a Network.

Syemtec Computers Developing a Network Symtec's Opportunity for developing a network for Eye-lights Introduction Eye-lights Network Solution A graphics company called Eye-Lights has approached Symtec. Eye-lights have asked Symtec to create a network system that will allow the workers of the company to share a printer. Eye-lights are based in Birmingham. It opened 2 years ago in Birmingham. Now one of the company's workers is going to move to London but still continue working for the company. Also an opportunity has arisen to work with a designer from Paris. Research in to possible solutions Symtec have looked into the possible solutions for developing a network in the Eye-lights office. But for the users outside of Birmingham will need to connect to the same network within the Eye-lights building another method will need to be looked into for this. On the following pages is research into this problem and a clear explanation for the possible solutions that could be used within the Eye-lights company. After looking at this research I have discovered the ideal network for the company. But there are a few factors still missing from the research I need to have a look at the following things: * Operating System * Application Software to be distributed across the network * Security on the network * Antivirus Software * Hardware This research will be shown on the

The Future of communication.

The Future of communication -"Behind every man now alive stand thirty ghosts, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living. Since the dawn of time, roughly a hundred billion human beings have walked the planet Earth. --Now this is an interesting number, for by a curious coincidence there are approximately a hundred billion stars in our local universe, the Milky Way. So for every man who has ever lived, in this universe, there shines a star." (from Clarke's foreword in 2001, A Space Odyssey, 1968) I think the next century; the educational revolution will ensure that learning will be completely liberated from the tyrannies of schedules and locations. Anybody, anywhere will be able to study any subject, and access any form of information - at his or her most comfortable speed. This will make education the life-long process it must be.*** I defiantly think the future of communications is in people. People will become more open to discussion or chat. Interaction of any kind is an important form learning, even body language; people will be more expressive and affectionate with each other. Who knows? The world may be a safer and ever more comfortable place to live…. I mean, we have seen single-interest groups - pro-choice, environmental, animal rights, and gay rights groups being the most prominent in the past centuary. Although I am always feeling since

Unit 21: Working with ICT Hardware and Equipment

Unit 21: Working with ICT Hardware and Equipment The working Process Building a pc for a school When building a pc for a school I need to ensure that it is built to the requirements. As the pc go out to the schools and the connexions centre they need to have specific software etc on the computers for them to run correctly without any problems. When building a pc for a school I need to check the following: Customer Requirements Customer requirements can be from what they need i.e.: * The basic - computer * Which software they are requiring in this case Citrix as the main programme. (Citrix is used to remotely connect to the server from over the internet). * It could also need a certain amount of memory in the computer * A better machine so that it does not cause them the hassle that the old one did. This can be helpful especially if the customer is on their computer all through the working day. Personal advisers that are in schools also need to have computers that can be as fast as required as they tend to hold a lot of interviews with the pupils at the school. * Any extra ram or drivers that are needed need to be placed into the computer carefully. As the ICT team are regularly asked to make sure that computer speed is kept at its maximum for all computers in the business it is important that extra ram is put in carefully, ensuring that health and safety rules are
