Making And Breaking A Star

I was given the task of creating a fictional character. I had to create a character profile of the person, in which every major detail about him was revealed including his interests, hobbies, features, right down to the level of detail consisting of the eye colour of the person. This was done in order to create an 'image´ for the character that he could be associated with. I then wrote an interview with the character, which was set out in the style of a typical Radio Times interview. I then created a tabloid exposé that was set out in the form of a newspaper article.

The Radio Times article that I created was set out in the same way in which a typical interview in the magazine would appear. The article was set out with the header at the top with the information that the interview was with the character "Seth," and revealed that he was considered 'The Bad Boy of Rock,´ the header also showed that the article was an interview and that it was apart of the Radio Times. These details appear in a typical Radio Times article to give the reader all the information that will appear in the article in a way that is easy to find and very accessible. In the top-left hand corner of the page is a picture of the character "Seth," to show the reader who the interview is being associated with in a way that is far more accessible than using words. The picture also gives the reader a brief idea of what sort of an article it is going to be as people commonly associate pictures with other images and develop their own ideas about the person. Below the image is a relatively short description containing information about what the interview consists, information about the interviewee and sets the scene for the interview. Following the brief description, the interview begins. The questions being asked are in a bold font to make it easier to differentiate between questions and answers and makes the article far easier to read and improves the presentation of the piece. Some of the answers in the interview contained expletives; therefore the words were replaced with stars as the magazine is aimed at those of all ages and because of this should not contain any adult material or material that is deemed as inappropriate. After the interview is complete, there is a small note thanking the interviewee for their participation in the interview, as is the standard for interviews in most magazines. At the foot the details of who the interview was conducted by are given. The layout of the page and style is typical of a Radio Times article and contains elements that are commonly seen in magazines.

The tabloid exposé is set out in the outlay of a typical newspaper, in this case 'The Times´ newspaper is used. The newspaper begins with the title of the paper at the top of the page spread across one side to the other, as is seen on the newspaper. Almost directly below the header is the main articles header, which is normally in a large font that dominates most of the front page. The header is typically in a different font from the rest of the text and is far bolder than any other text on the page to make ...
