Bowling for soup are a punk/Ska band from America and are quite well known around the world including the UK!
The way these three tunes compare are the bass line because roni size could have taken the idea for snap shot from spunges roots song because the way that the bass line goes sounds very familiar to the ska bands baseline. Also another reason bowling for soups intro to Belgium has the same instrumentation to spunges because the guitars sound the same and they both have tambourine players, the structure to the introduction and the breakdown of the two bands sounds almost exactly the same, an example is the way the band stops for 2 bars the singer talks and then they start up again, you can really tell here that the same ideas where used in making these two tracks
The tempo to drum and bass is usually around 160 to 180 depending on the producers tastes on the roni size tune he uses 170bpm obviously this is a lot quicker than the two punk bands but the rhythm is still the same and almost exactly the same at some points.
The two bands are not the same style but they sing about the same things in these two songs they are both singing about growing up and going away to holiday places you can relate the type of lyrics but they explain it different ways, Attitude comes into this section because the way they sing and the way they play there instruments really helps you too see that the songs are closely linked but still have there unique feel to them. Roni sizes track does not involve lyrics.
The key that all three tunes are played in are almost the same they are highly pitched with the drums being heard clearly this is because the drums were probably “micd” up the same to give the same sort of feel the tunes. Obviously roni size used samples on his drums but the snare and bass drum has a punky sort of sound to it again here you can relate this to the other tracks.
The feel to each and every one of the tracks is a bouncy happy sort of feel to it because the two bands are putting the same message across and the instruments have the same feel to it. Roni size tune isn’t really dirty and grimey like some drum and bass tunes are it is a happy jump up track. The “timbre” flavour of each and every one of the tracks is best explained as happy and warm.
The way each and everyone of the tracks have been equalized is that the drums and the vocals are louder than guitar and other instruments involved, these are still easily heard but the snare drums in the tunes are very loud, also instead of hearing guitar the bass player in both bands comes first also in roni sizes tune the bass line rolls over everything else.
Conclusion the three tracks I chose all relate in some way that I noticed and other people should to if they listen to them the tracks maybe different genres of music but. Using my knowledge of tempo, structure, rhythm, attitude, feel and musicality I was able to compare the three tracks by listening to them individually and writing notes on things is noticed.
