Findings
I tried to interview a wide range of age and gender. Most people have heard of the Rolling Stones, mainly from books or magazines or from someone telling them. About half have heard their music and about half of those people like it (roughly 5 out of 20 people like the Rolling Stones music). Only a few people who have not heard their music would like to. No one buys their CDs or cassettes or ever has done. Most people would go to a Rolling Stones concert if they were performing but would only, on average, be prepared to pay five to ten pounds. There was a great range on the one to ten scale of how good people thought their music was, going from three to seven. No one thought the Rolling Stones could ever make a possible comeback. The results were not too far off what I expected; I did not expect anyone to buy their CDs or many of them to have heard their music. There was a pattern that the younger people I interviewed generally seemed not to have heard about the Rolling Stones whereas the older they got, the more they knew about them. Males seemed to know as much about them as Females.
This graph shows the percentage of people of different ages that have heard of the Rolling Stones and have heard their music. Older people seem to have heard of the Stones more than younger people therefore more of them have heard their music. The younger people however have not even heard of them and obviously many of them have not heard their music.
This graph represents the percentage of people form various age groups that would go to a Rolling Stones concert. Again there is the general pattern that older people would prefer to go rather than younger people. People of about twelve may be too young to start going out to concerts so naturally they would say no.
This graph represents the percentage of people from each age group that thought the Rolling Stones would never come back into the charts. The pattern seems pretty random but all results are pretty high showing that not many people thought that the Stones would ever be popular again.
Conclusions
I have found that most people have heard of the Rolling Stones but only half have heard their music and half of those who heard it, like it. No one buys their CDs or ever has done and most people would be prepared to pay a moderately low price to go to one of their concerts. No one thinks that they will ever make a possible comeback.
Recommendations
My recommendations are that the Rolling Stones should advertise themselves more and make themselves noticed by the music lovers. They can do this by advertising themselves through various forms of media such as T.V. and radio or performing live concerts. They should study how to change their music to suit modern tastes but to retain some of their original theme. They should also get a top music retailer to stock their CDs and cassettes. They should be aiming to attract the attention of teenage music lovers but they also might get some support from the older generation who listed to their music when they were younger.
