Scarlet Letter Ending Rewrite

Shrewsbury 1 Austen Shrewsbury Mrs. Tamara Kunkel English III January 25, 2010 The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Chapters 23 & 24 Rewrite/Summary `The sermon delivered by the Reverend Dimmesdale weighed heavily upon the parishioners, who, despite their past affirmations that he was indeed the most saintly of men, felt somehow that their spirits had been touched by the Devil in receiving the Election Day homily. Truly the Reverend had appeared better in health, for it was agreed upon by all that Roger Chillingworth had, while residing in the domicile of the minister, trickled slowly upon him an unholy ailment of the Black Man. Though, in the thoughts of the congregation, there nagged a nameless fret, which repeated into their minds the harsh words of the minister. His usual denunciation of wrongdoing - from simple peccadillo to ghastly sin - was forthright and formidable, leaving little room for any other interpretation than the imposing point that he aimed to achieve. This, however, was not the core of his latest homily. The minister had stood before the alter this day, and, appearing to receive a great epiphany, articulated his sermon in a fervent manner. He spoke at length of the liberating confession of one's sins, to which all present agreed, making a show of nods. Conversely, the Reverend seemed to contradict himself as he concluded his sermon with a

Personal statement - I believe that Political Science will be the most appropriate and applicable course to pursue given both my personal background and interests.

Government personal statement On a vacation to the Krak des Chevaliers and Palmyra in the Syrian Desert, I witnessed the rich culture of the Middle Eastern people. This region is generally perceived by western democracies as a constant source of political and social turmoil. This may be true for the most part; however, many areas in the region are as modern and peaceful as any western nation. Further to being raised in a multi-cultural family with a Beirut-born father of Palestinian, Syrian and Armenian heritage and a Maltese mother, I have developed a strong interest in foreign cultures. Therefore, I believe that Political Science will be the most appropriate and applicable course to pursue given both my personal background and interests. As one of Canada's most cosmopolitan cities, my native Toronto attracts many foreigners: some are looking for better living conditions and job opportunities; others are on exchange to learn English and benefit from higher education. As a child growing up in this vibrant city, I would look forward to my family housing exchange students. This rewarding experience prompted me to volunteer at summer camps, where I taught ESL to students from 6 to 18 years of age.My many encounters and experiences with foreign cultures have nourished my passion for travel. This was fostered by my parents who, three years ago, decided to move our family to the

How effectively and efficiently a group or an individual would perform the task provided

Essay 'Individuals will complete a task more efficiently and effectively than a group. And training in group dynamics, whilst interesting, has no practical value as a means of increasing the standard of group performance' (Mullins, 2007, p. 296) This essay is based on the issue of how effectively and efficiently a group or an individual would perform the task provided. The efficiency and effectiveness of the task totally depends upon the ability of the individual and the group members themselves. Thus, it is difficult just to analyze the performance to be done, without knowing their abilities or qualities like experience, knowledge, ideas, skills, information etc. Motivation towards the task is also necessary for both the individuals and group. These are some of the factors we need to come across to know their abilities. As stated by Mullins (2007), "training in group dynamics, whilst interesting, has no practical value as a means of increasing the standard of group performance.' (p. 296)" but it does make a great difference in the long term. If the time span for the task to be done is long than the training given to the group members will obviously give a fruitful result and would obviously be very effective in increasing the standard of group performance. Some of the descriptions below would make the idea more clear. "As commonly used, individual refers to a person or to

When We Study History We Are Not Studying The Past But What Historians Have Constructed About The Past

'When we study history we are not studying the past but what historians have constructed about the past' (Keith Jenkins). Discuss. History is supposedly the process of reporting the past in the most accurate way possible, however, this inevitably is not always the case. Our study of history is rarely, if ever, based on first hand experiences but rather the accounts of such experiences by other historians. In this way the basic and obvious facet of the question is answered as indeed in the act of studying it is necessary to have material to study which inevitably is written by a historian, as Jenkins comments "all history is historiography".1 Pg11 This though does not mean that opinions become uniform and although the same set of key facts are largely used they can be interpreted in endless different ways in pursuit of a 'past' closer to the truth. The clearest counter argument to Jenkins statement is the use of primary sources which could be said to be unbiased as they are predominantly objective such as facts and figures. They are the first report of fact which has not been lost in the translation of interpretation by various different historians. However, even these are vulnerable to inaccuracy, whether it is incomplete archives "perished by accident or design", being "Tainted by the less than pure intentions of their author"2, human errors or inaccuracies, or simply

Analyse the factors that influence the interaction undertaken (D2)

Analyse the factors that influence the interaction undertaken (D2) Factors that influenced the interaction undertaken Where:- The individuals preferred language In this case the preferred language style was to speak to the children more on their level without using words they don't understand or personal jargon that only I understood. This was a positive influence on communication as I was able to do this effectively as I didn't have to change the language I use jus use simpler terms witch I did without even noticing as I knew I was communicating with children. As I have younger nieces of the same age range I was able to do this effectively from using the same approach. Personality In this case the personality communication effectors were based on the personality of a child. Because young children are more difficult to maintain focus and concentration, going about creating effective communication was more complex as I had to devise strategies to go about. Were as an adult would be easier as their concentration levels would be higher and more controlled. To be able to tackle this being aware of the way children behave is an advantage so more practice with interacting with children in a younger age range would improve my understanding on the way to communicate with children effectively and also become easier. Environment During the group activity environmental

Medea: A Woman's Scorn-Mythological

Medea: A Woman's Scorn There has been no reprieve from the images that infest my mind, nor can I find solace in the manifestations that once were my dreams. They are now wrought in the vivid memories that so mercilessly assail my soul. I, Jason the Argonaut, and inheritor of the Golden Fleece, have been brought to ruin by my wife, Medea. Perhaps it is the will of the Gods; for only their omniscient presence could bear witness to the atrocities she committed in order to fulfill my prophesized glory. Her methods became unceasingly vile when agitated, and I was unable to dissuade the murders to come. Now I consider the lives of our ill fated children, Memeros and Pheres, King Pelias my misguided uncle, and my brother in law Absyrtus, whose lives she maliciously ended. Our tale was the renowned Argonautica, and I, Jason was their leader destined to obtain that which was meant to be my own, the Golden Fleece. To my unforeseen surprise, the King Aeëtes of Colchis was unwilling to bestow my inheritance unless I accomplished a series of appointed tasks. It was through this necessity that I was fated to meet my future wife, the daughter of Aeëtes, Medea. Medea was an enchantress of undeniable talent, and whose skills were crucial to my success. Had it not been for her I could not have conquered the dragon guarding the Fleece, nor could I have evaded the pursuit of Aeëtes' ships.

Task 5 Motivating people

lMotivating People Definition of Leadership - person or thing that leads/ A person or thing that is the most successful or advanced in a particular area - Oxford Dictionary Task A There are three main types of leadership; Authoritarian, Democratic and Laissez-Faire leadership. Authoritarian Leadership This style is leader centred. The leader does all of the planning and thinking. The job of the team is just to follow the leaders example, and do whatever they are told to. The team follows and is motivated by the leader either because he has status, charisma expertise, or the power to punish or reward. The team strive to please and satisfy the leader. The main sanction is the approval or disapproval of the leader. This kind of leadership is best when situations are life or death, and quick decisions need to be made, and are carried out without question and with discipline by the team. The main negative point is though, that there is very little individuality for the team members. If the leader makes a mistake, then everybody suffers because only he can make decisions and choices fro the team. No one other than the leader is allowed to have a say in affairs. In this style of leadership, himself holds the leader accountable for his own actions. Democratic Leadership This style of leadership is team centred. The leader is a facilitator and an organiser. It is up to

DNA TIMELINE

Perceptions of Science-Just because we can do it-should we? M3 On April 1995 the world's first National DNA Database came in operation and was called the biggest breakthrough in the fight against crime since fingerprints by Home secretary Michael Howard, this would have had a positive effect on society as those people who had committed crimes would have more of a chance being caught and it would prevent more people from committing crimes. In 1996, the criminal procedure and investigations Act widened the power of the police to search profiles gained across the UK this included Scotland, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, this would have had a positive effect on society as the wider the NDNA database is used across a country the more chance of fight against crime, the more likely criminals are caught and more people would stop committing crimes and criminals can be caught quicker. On May 1998, Chief Supt Peter Gammon who is the president of the Police superintendents Association says that there should be the establishment of a NDNAD for the whole population, this would have both a positive and negative effect on society as criminals can be caught quicker, it would take less time to find criminals but also it could have a negative effect as it would mean that innocents people DNA would be kept on the NDNAD and it could be seen as an invasion of people's
