Many Christians oppose to abortion. Two reasons that they give for this is are that Catholics believe it’s wrong and considered to be murder. Catholics also think that contraceptives will fail; that humans make mistakes and that there will always be unplanned pregnancies. But a baby isn’t the end of life but the beginning and that abortion is the last resort. Christians use the Bibles principle of the sanctity of life to support their views. They say that the Bibles command is to love one another and to show and to have compassion for the weak. Even the most loving person in most cases maybe allowed having an abortion if the mother is unsupported and single. Christians also believe that Jesus wanted us to live a full life and what kind of life awaits a severely brain-damaged fetus.
There are different reasons why some Christians would allow an abortion. Two of these are that individuals are to decide whether abortion is right or not and individuals are best placed to make moral decisions. They would base their view on the principle in the Bible that, as mentioned before, everyone should live a full life and that God gives us free will to make our own decisions even if it’s right or wrong.
The Bible is not a textbook even though many Christians, such as Fundamentalists, abide by it because it doesn’t tell us how to live our lives the right or wrong way. Church leaders back in 1960 felt that traditional teachings on abortion wasn’t useful in the modern world because dangerous, illegal abortions were being carried out in unhealthy conditions which lead to 30 women dying every year and 40,000 to 20,000 abortions taking place every year. Christians as individuals are left to decide whether abortion is right or wrong for them, not Jesus or God. This means that the Bible makes it impossible to make rules that apply to every single human being or in every single situation.
Christians use different kinds of reasons when making their moral decisions about abortion. In some cases people use their age when making the decision about abortion, whether they’re too young or underage to have a baby or not, some use the family situation when they make the decision, incase they have to many children as it is or they couldn’t afford to bring up a child on their own or as a couple, some people make the decision about abortion if there are medical problems during the pregnancy or after and finally the most common reason when making a decision about abortion is whether the mother wants the baby or not which also links to if they’re ready for a life time commitment such as a baby.
I disagree with abortion because I feel that it’s murder and that it’s wrong to kill a human being who doesn’t have a say on what’s going on and who hasn’t done anything wrong. Also I think that the child didn’t ask to come into this world and it also didn’t ask to leave or to be killed neither. I believe that if a woman gets pregnant then she should continue her life along with the baby and not take the easy way out which is to have an abortion.
