INTRODUCTION For most people in life they will always remember a good coach or teacher; a good coach/teacher can be the difference for someone taking part ion sport in later life. Although I haven't experienced this, I have read that people have had bad experiences with coaches or teachers and have been put off sport for life. This shows how important a coach or teacher can be in developing children for later life. I have to compare two coaches that I believe to be successful; I have decided to choose a former teacher and a former coach. I believe it will be interesting to compare them as they were both successful in different, one was successful as he produced good results for the team and the other was successful in producing and help develop children into good players. My first coach was Adrian Tame, he was my cricket coach but was also a Devon coach will help me develop

Sport and society

Sport in society P3 I am going to choose 2 sports and explain the affect they have both locally and nationally with the affects it has on the environment. The first sport I am going to talk about is Football. Football is played in many countries over the world and is one of the most popular sports around. It also holds one of the biggest competitions in the sporting world, the 'World Cup'. At the start of the competition 32 teams enter and it boils down to one Winner over 31 days and 64 games. In this period of time the world cup captures billions of people world wide to watch the games take place on T.V or by going to the venue itself and supporting them in the stadium's. The host for each coming world cup spend millions of pounds on building new multi-complex-stadiums for world cup games and hotels in which tourists or visitors in the country can stay. By building new stadiums, hotels and possibly more pubs and clubs it will offer more job vacancies for the local community, improving massively on a finance base. Some of the job vacancies available offer a wide option for people in the area, such as managers, secretaries to run the businesses, bar staff, caterers, bouncers, and receptionist's along with lots more. Stadiums will require grounds men, stewards and police officers to make sure there is no trouble going on between fans, ticket inspectors for the gates,

The scale of the sport and its contribution to the UK economy

Task 1 - The scale of the sport and its contribution to the UK economy Introduction Sport and physical activity has been part of society for thousands of years. Now sport is not only a past time but a big business. The industry in the UK accounts for 1.6% of the economy, and in 1998 was worth over £11 billion in consumer spending. The main break down of this is: - Participation - includes admissions to things like Leisure centres, club membership, hire charges - Sports clothing - Sports footwear - Equipment - Spectating There is hardly an athletic contest anywhere in the world that does not attract an audience. This means there is a demand for the particular type of entertainment offered. Where there is a demand, ways will be found by enterprising individuals and organizations to exploit it as a source of income. Football This is practically true with football due to the phenomenal scale of the sport. A clue to the scale is the shear number of people that participate in football; this is around seven million across the country, with over 5million children included in that figure. The grassroots set up is well established with 40,000 clubs, 45,000 pitches, 2,000 leagues Its easy to get involved. Football is Britain's most popular team sport shown in table 1.1 and 1.2., for participation. If these figures included speciation Football would definitely top the

Leisure and recreation

Introduction Leisure and recreation are as old as human beings and were present in the lives of our Stone Age ancestors. There are many different terms to do with leisure and recreation. Here are some of them: In this investigation, I will produce a detailed report about the development, scale, structure and employment opportunities of the leisure and recreation industry. I will research all of these topics and use evidence such as statistics to support my research. Active recreation This is when an individual participates in an activity which involves physical movement or mental effort such as playing a sport (football, tennis netball etc.), playing a musical instrument or acting, gardening and crafts and other hobbies and rambling. Passive recreation This is when an individual receives or consumes entertainment by other people or activities, such as watching television, listening to music, reading, playing computer games and going to a restaurant or a pub. The majority of people find active recreation very stimulating and rewarding. They feel in control of themselves and can set targets for them to achieve in the future. Many people also enjoy the competitiveness of sporting activities. Passive recreation takes up a large proportion of people's leisure time. People enjoy passive recreation so much because it can make them feel good. Also huge amounts of money are

Local and National Provision for Rugby Union - Dorset

Local and National Provision for Rugby The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is the rugby union governing body in England it founded in 1871. It's responsible for conferences, organising international matches, and educating and training players and officials. The national team is called England Rugby. The Rugby Football Union and Premier Rugby Limited (PRL) are partners in a joint venture called England Rugby Limited (ERL) created to manage the elite professional game in England. Up until 1885, the RFU decided on rules and regulations, however due to a disputed try in 1885 the Scottish, Irish and Welsh unions joined to form the International Rugby Football Board (IRFB). England after originally refusing to join became a member in 1890. This became known as the International Rugby Board (IRB) in 1997. Rugby is firstly introduced to children at primary school, in the form of tag rugby. A tackle is recreated by pulling a Velcro tag from your opponent's belt, making it a non contact version of the full fifteen aside game. Tag rugby incorporates many of the skills used in rugby union, such as passing, running and evasion. However it doesn't contain scrums, lineouts or kicking. In 2003/4 the RFU introduced "mini tag" into its junior development plan called "The Three Stages of the Rugby Continuum". This form of tag rugby is the only allowed type according to the RFU, for under 7's and

Weaknesses Coursework

A Level P.E Practical Area of Assessment One Weakness 1 During a Cut Shot my hands are in an upwards direction. This occurs more regularly when I am batting later on in an innings when I begin to get tired. Effect of Weakness on Overall Game/Performance By having my hands facing upwards when playing a cut shot it demotivates me when I get out playing that shot because I know that I can play it properly. I play the ball underneath my eyes and I get far enough over on the off side but instead of hitting the ball into the ground or over the top I tend to hit the ball straight to backward point. This is because my hands are facing in an upwards direction. This is because earlier in my innings it is one of my favourite, most highly scoring shots. My team might get annoyed that I keep getting out in the same way because I bat at number 3 and therefore I often come into bat when the team needs me. The opposition may notice that I get out cutting and therefore would motivate them to put it in the slot for me to cut because they no my hands are facing upwards and therefore there is a chance of a catch. This means in a game situation there is always a chance of getting me out playing the cut shot and therefore it is not an effective shot to play until I sort this weakness out. Compared to an Elite Performer Ramnaresh Sarwan bats at number 3 for the West Indies and is one of the

Critically analyse how the media, sports funding, education and the business sectors have affected sport The sports industry can be categorised into three different sectors

Task 5 B Critically analyse how the media, sports funding, education and the business sectors have affected sport The sports industry can be categorised into three different sectors which are based upon who is running the activity or where it is located. The three sectors are the public, private and voluntary sectors. Public Sector The public sector is a service that is provided for the general public. It is provided by local authorities whom provide facilities for the general public to use. Participation at these facilities is greatly encouraged usually through themed programmes such as Muslim ladies only swimming or free sessions for youngsters to get them involved in sport. A lot of facilities that are owned by the local authority often provide activities or sports such as swimming, indoor football, squash and the gym. What separates the public from the other two sectors is that it is the public's own money that funds public sports facilities. Places such as leisure centres do charge an entry fee but profitability isn't the main focus of these businesses. In the 1970's local authority's first started popping up with the aim to provide for everyone in the community. The problem was that through lack of proper investment the facilities began deteriorating and looking scruffy. They had achieved their goal of providing affordable sports access to the community but
