Also if you had very young children who weren’t old enough to work you’ll be able to look after them without worrying about taken time of work and loosing money.
Another advantage is been able to decide when you start and finish work, so if you couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed you would be able to have an extra ½ hour. And if you couldn’t be bothered to work anymore you were too tired you could finish work for the day. In addition to this you could have breaks when you wanted, as well as choosing how long or short your break was going to be.
You also wouldn’t have to get up as early as you wouldn’t be wasting time traveling to and from work.
You might work better because you are in a familiar environment.
You had control over the machinery how fast or slow you wanted the machines to go. As a result of this you would be able to clean underneath and on the machine without the danger of getting hurt.
Naturally when the work was complete all of the workers felt proud of what they had made and achieved. This was another advantage.
On the other hand there was some disadvantages of the domestic system.
One of them was it was more tempting to skive and not work. Plus there wasn’t anyone around to push you to reach your full potential.
Also you wouldn’t meet new people. Similarly you would not experience new things and wouldn’t learn any new skills or get any training.
You might get sick of being around your family all day, day in day out, you need to socialize with different people.
There was also a danger of the children being abused and pushed around by there parents. Also the children did not get any education either. As a result of this wouldn’t be able to get a decent job.
Domestic workers might also be insecure because their wages depended on how long they worked for and how much work they did and the quality of their work.
In the list of advantages I put they could work when they wanted but on the hand they might end up working longer harder hours as a result of this. This is because they might not finish the fabric in time so they would end up working longer harder hours to complete their work.
I think the domestic system was a selfish thing to do because all the good points are all about you. Except one, which is being able to look after young children and the only reason you would do this is so your child can work as a domestic worker to be able to help you with your work to make some money for you.
In spite of this I think being a domestic worker was better than a factory worker because all the disadvantages could be resolve and worked out. Also their parents could push around their children but I feel the children would get pushed around and beaten up more if they worked in a factory.
