The life of Muhammad Islam The word Islam means surrender, obedience or peace. Followers of Islam believe Islam to be the only way to gain peace of heart and mind and in society as a whole. The holy book of Islam is the Qur'an. The Qur'an is said to be the word of God as said by the prophet Muhammad. The main belief of Islam is Tawhid. This is the belief in an oneness or unity of God, who in Arabic is known as Allah. Makkah and the Ka'bah Makkah was the capital city of Arabia and was famous for the Ka'bah. The Ka'bah is a large black cube in the centre of Makkah. The legend behind the Ka'bah is that Adam built it and therefore it became the first house of God on Earth. In pre Islamic Arabia the Ka'bah contained over 360 altars, statues and cult objects of various gods. The idols which it contained included meteor rocks and slabs of rock or pillars. Many of these idols were considered to be a point of worship or the focal point of a god's energy. Many of the statues were symbolic for example many statues were pyramids which represent the sun breaking through the clouds or power and blessing. The most important god that was worshipped in the Ka'bah was Allah or strong and most powerful one. He was said to have had three daughters Al-lat who was the goddess of sun and life, al-uzza who was the god of love and Manat who was the goddess of fate and fortune. The

"Islam cannot be understood without reference to angels" Discuss In order to understand the statement, I will be going through a series of steps, to follow through with this. I will be first describing what angels are followed by what they do, then which types of angels there are as well as angels in the Qur'an. I will finish of with why belief in angels is important to Islam. Angels are a specialised creation of Allah. In Arabic they are known as Malaikah. They are created from divine light (Nur) to perform specific functions. Angels do not have any gender. Allah did not give them any gender since the angels themselves are asexual and do not reproduce. However in the Qur'an, Archangels are referred to as "he" or "he is", because in Arabic the word for angel is a masculine noun. The angels are different from the human race in the way that they do not contain any of man's physical attributes (although they may appear in the shape of a man.) They do not sleep, procreate, eat or drink. Angels themselves do not possess free will, therefore they do not have any desires nor do they commit sins or misdeeds. They always obey Allah and can never disobey Him. Whenever Allah commands the angels to do something, it is always done. Angels are known to be "innocent servants of Allah's will". They are known to help men in the use of free will, and carry out the decision that men decide.
What is Hajj?
About Hajj A Muslim is obliged once in their lifetime ,by their religion along with their own will, to take a pilgrimage to Makkah in Saudi Arabia. This pilgrimage is called Hajj and is an amazing journey that is done for a definite purpose. It is part of the Five Pillars of Islam that is the basis of the entire religion making it obligatory. Through completing Hajj, a Muslim can begin to feel closer to Allah (Islam's God) and experience inner fulfilment. Hajj must be done for the right reasons, "it is for the glory of Allah not for the glory of the person making the journey." Hajj literally means 'to set out for a place', it's a journey with rites and rituals along the way. The Qu'ran calls Muslims to 'complete the Hajj or Umrah in the service of Allah'. For generations, the journey a Muslim takes has always started in Makkah. This place is sacred because in 10AH, 632 CE, Muslim's believe that Muhammad (pbuh)- Islam's most famous prophet - performed Hajj with 1400 of his followers because Allah instructed him to. He also lived and preached in Makkah during his lifetime. Since Muhammad's pilgrimage, Makkah has been sacred to all Muslim's. They want to follow in the footsteps of Muhammad and the prophets Adam, Ibrahim and Isma'il as they believe that Allah is there to guide them through life just as he guided the prophets.
