The main reasons that sexism takes place is because one gender will feel another gender is weaker and not as successful as another. They will feel as if they have not got the ability e.g: workplaces without giving them any chance to prove themselves. This is clearly a stubborn and an ignorant way to treat people.
Sexism is certainly taking place in the UK and there are numerous ways, which denotes that sexism does manifest in this country, such as: making prejudice statements and using offensive terms. In addition there was someone paying you less because of gender, this would be sexism.
If you make friends and talk to more people based on their personality, this will help fight sexism and also joining anti-sexist campaigns will help the community.
At present in the UK, the laws against sexism in many companies has got even tighter. Employers will no longer be able to defend themselves against sexual discrimination claims by arguing they are equally offensive to all staff, under new regulations to be introduced on Sunday. This conveys that the county is taken the rules against harassment seriously.
Historically, there has been far more cases for sexism against women. This is because they are seen as the weaker sex of the society. In certain cases in the society, women were not even recognised as a person of the law of land. Over the past 3,000 years in Britain, people have been living within socially; where the males have been the dominant force for many things such as religion. A quote said:
"I permit no women to teach or have authority over men, she is to keep silent" from ‘1 Timothy 2:12’.
This conveys that from an early age women have never gained an advantage over men.
This still denotes sexist language. Also in the British language we speak today; words such as: masterpiece, statesman, and forefathers, God the Father strengthens the point that men are still far more dominate.
Religiously, over the past few years a new term has been used in churches, which is called feminist theology. This is when women make the churches think about its sexist attitudes and its male dominant language. Churches are still found guilty of singling out the males as the most important. This is because most people at present still assume that god is a man. In addition women are not in any of the highest powers in churches and they have little to do in the churches besides making up the numbers as a member.
In conclusion, I feel that to ask myself the question; why do sexists want to conclude and what are they getting out of it, besides the ‘pride’ for males. I strongly believe, no sex/gender is stronger than the other and none of the genders will ever control the other. This is because we all have different aims in life and purposes. It is a shame that one gender will abuse the other, when it is clear that one gender needs the other gender; for the future.
