A comparison of the 20th and 19th century short stories by Penelope lively, Rohl Dahl and M.R. James All 3 of the short stories carry a similar main theme, a theme which derives from the classic tale of Hansel and Grethal by the Brothers Grimm. A theme of disregard, procurement of the nieve and coincidentally, murder. The first of these stories is "The darkness out there" by Penelope lively. This story doesn't follow the theme as strictly as the others but it is loosely based upon it. The time set is not at first overly apparent. But it soon becomes clear that it was set not long after world war two, late 40's early 50's. Probably in Kent or some other country side place. The narrative is a story of generosity, which is shattered by evil. The goodness is symbolised by the children and the evil by the old woman. The crime is one of murder and the turning point is when the boy realises how evil the old woman is. In the next story, "the lost hearts" by M R James, the time set is a lot earlier around the time of 1811. It's a ghost story as opposed to the darkness out there, which is a 20th century fairy tale. Its is set in a mansion in Lincolnshire called Aswarby hall, a typical house in the reign of Anne. By the way of language structure, this story uses some colloquial language with generally longer, more complex sentences and metaphorical language than the first story, A lot
Why was Mussolini appointed Prime Minister of Italy in October 1922? There is no straightforward answer to why Mussolini became Prime Minister of Italy in October 1922; there is a network of reasons. The ultimate decision to who was appointed Prime Minister was the duty of the King's. His decision was based around the fear of the civil war if he had not signed Prime Minister Facta's decree for martial law two days before Mussolini's planned 'March on Rome'. This was due to Mussolini and the Ras controlling much of Italy, emphasised by the huge mobilisation of squads in socialist areas at the end of July 1922 when the Alliance of Labour called a strike which had little support and lasted just 4 days. The March on Rome was planned on 16th October '22 and was a clear sign of power and therefore threat to the collapsing government and King, success was hinted at by the massive rally of 40 000 fascists in Naples on the 24th. Many of the army generals were deeply involved with Fascism (which was symbolic of the governments support), leading to another main factor influencing the King, the growth of Fascist support and power. Fascism had strong appeals to many - nationalists, industrialists, the elite, the youth, braccianti and many more. It offered a physical and ruthless resistance to the socialist threat which anyone above working class favoured, because of their trade unions
Implementation Here is my switchboard. I have hid border margins and other abilities so the user focus's on the switchboard and nothing else. I used the main colour as green because the Peterborough City Council logo is usually green. I have created 4 buttons, which all use either a recorded macro or some VB coding. Here are the recorded macros: And here is the coding for my "exit" button on VB: When clicking the application form it goes straight onto my user form called "application form". The button uses A recorded macro and generates onto my application form which is made using the "Toolbox". Here is my application form: My application form has a lot of VB coding to it, for example; when I have filed in all the box's and press sent, it will reset all the box's to there initial state, as well as bring up a message saying "Your Application has been sent" as shown here: Here is some of the coding my user form (application form): For my next button called "Contact Details" on my switchboard I used a recorded macro. When pressed this button brings up another user form called "Contact Details" as shown here: I chose a user form instead of designing it on Excel itself because I thought it looked a lot more professional and presentable. I didn't use much VB coding for this, only for the "OK" button which then exits the user form. Here is the designing stage of it: When
Did the Russians revolutions improve the lives of ordinary Russians, 1914-1924? When Tsar Nicholas II ruled Russia life was quite good the peasants loved the Tsar as 'their father'. The Romanov dynasty had been going since 1613 and the celebration of the 300th year ruling, which gave the Tsar popularity. The powerful church even supported the Romanov, which made them even more popular. Both the government and the army where ruled by nobles. There was a secret police and there was a press censorship. Russia had lost the war with Japan in 1904. Most of the population where peasants so that means that most of the population supported the Tsar. The peasants where controlled by nobles. In Russia there where three classes these where the upper class, the middle class or the Bourgeoisie and the lower class or the Proletariats. Russia was just starting to become industrialised and the town and factories where starting to grow up. But they lived in poor conditions and there was workers poverty. The middle class, were beginning to want a say in the way the country was ruled. After Bloody Sunday a Duma was introduce. A Duma was someone who helped the Tsar rule. These Dumas where often ineffective because if the Tsar did not like what they where saying then he would simply get a different one. Nicholas tried to run the country by himself but with a population of 125 million people all
Describe the different methods used to track and evaluate customer satisfaction and quality systems for a selected service/product.
UNIT 11 RELATIONSHIP MARKETING RIZWAN ZAID BTEC BUSINESS NATIONAL P3: Describe the different methods used to track and evaluate customer satisfaction and quality systems for a selected service/product. In this assignment, I will be describing the different methods that are used to track and evaluate customer satisfaction for a selected product. I will also describe the different quality systems that are used by an organisation and see how they evaluate their customers. The chosen that I have chosen for this assignment is McDonalds and the selected product I have chosen is the 'Happy Meal'. Customers are the main priority for all profit making organisations as without them, organisations such as McDonalds cannot make any profit from their services. This is why customers are vitally important in the process of organisations interacting with them. McDonalds ensure that they keep track of customer satisfaction as ensuring that they provide good customer service to their customers can potentially lead to customers purchasing their products. This will keep both McDonalds and the customer happy as the customer is financing into the organisation and the customers themselves are on the receiving end of good quality products. However, if McDonalds do not keep track of their customer satisfaction, they are potentially missing out on methods to build on that customers are
How can you alter your style of teaching to meet the demands of different practice and competitive situations for indivdual, racket and team activities?
Shenal Patel SKILL ACQUISITION TASK ONE - HOW CAN YOU ALTER YOUR STYLE OF TEACHING TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF DIFFERENT PRACTICE AND COMPETITIVE SITUATIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL, RACKET AND TEAM ACTIVITIES? There are many different styles that can be adopted by teachers and used in their own way in order to meet the demands of different practice and competitive situations for individual, racket and team activities. The teaching style which is chosen to be used by the teacher or coach can depend on several variables: - The teacher's personality and ability - The type of activity to be taught - The ability of those being taught - The level of motivation of those being taught - Environmental factors If the style is to be effective, all of these variables should be taken into account when teaching. However each teacher or coach may be comfortable with their own methods of teaching which may not account for these variables. The diagram below shows the spectrum of teaching styles which were identified by Mosston and Ashworth in 1986. These styles are characterised by the amount of decisions the teacher and learner make in the teaching/learning process. A B C D E F G H I J A B C D E F G H I J THE SPECTRUM OF TEACHING STYLES For
Analysis Of Sport In the world of Cricket, there are a number of factors that influence a player ranging from Psychological aspects to Bio-Mechanical aspects. I will be focusing on one side of Cricket which will be Bowling as the factors that influence a Batsman are different to a bowler. I am also a Bowler for the Oxfordshire County so therefore, I will be able to provide more information and knowledge to explain aspects to an adequate level. Physical Aspect (Speed): Speed is the quickness of movement of a limb, whether this is the legs of a Bowler or the arm of the Batsman. Speed is an integral part of Cricket and can be expressed as any one of, or a combination of, the following: maximum speed, elastic strength (power) and speed endurance. Energy is supplied by the anaerobic pathway. The anaerobic (without oxygen) energy system is best challenged as an athlete approaches top speed between 30 and 60 metres while running at 95% to 100% of maximum speed. This speed component of anaerobic metabolism lasts for approximately eight seconds and should be trained when no muscle fatigue is present. A fast bowler needs to take a longer run-up toward the wicket than a spin bowler, due to the need to generate the momentum and rhythm required to bowl a fast delivery. Fast bowlers will measure their preferred run up in strides and mark the distance from the wicket before he or she
. The title of the book we read was The Pearl. 2. The Pearl was written by John Steinbeck. 3. John Steinbeck wrote The Pearl in 1947 4. Kino is one of the major characters in the story. He is a young Mexican man and fisherman with black hair, tan skin, and a mustache that is thin and coarse. His personality is satisfied with what he has until he finds a pearl that makes him greedy and selfish. His character is very dynamic. The main object in the story that motivates Kino is the pearl. It causes him to act differently than the way he usually acts. Juana is another main character in the story. She is kinos faithful wife. She has dark eyes and follows Kino in his decisions. Her personality is very mellow but she can see the evil of the pearl. Unlike Kino, who is blind to see the bad about the pearl, Juana can see and is always looking for ways to get rid of the pearl. Unfortunately Kino does not see things the way Juana does so when Juana tries to get rid of the pearl she gets hit. Coyotito is a main character. He is Kino and Juana's first-born son who is stung by the scorpion and started the whole madness of the pearl. He is a baby and is not much of an inconvenience. He obeys his parents very well, when he cries, Juana gives him food and he is quite. Over all Coyotito is a character who is quite except when he cries and obedient. 5. The doctor is a minor character
Life Stages Pass 3 Describe the influences of two predictable and twp unpredictable major life events on the development of the individual. With reference to the case study of Jason describe the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events that have influenced his development. In this assignment I am going to discuss the influences of two predictable and two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the development of an individual specifically relating to Jason. Life events are often turning points in peoples' lives. Some are predictable, such as starting school: others are unpredictable, such as being made redundant. I am going to start off by discussing two unpredictable events in Jason's life: Divorce Jason's parents divorced when he was eight years old, he still had a lot of growing up to do at this point in his life. Jason's emotional health will have been affected the most. Jason will have gone through a mixture of emotions during this time of his life. He may have felt confused by the divorce, feel unloved, he may also have blamed himself for his mum and dad's divorce. Jason's mum decided to re-marry and Jason therefore became a part of a 'Step- family' this may have resulted in further confusion for Jason. Jason's had several difficult periods in school this could be indirectly related to the divorce. He may have
L'incident reste
