Individual differences/abnormality.

Psychology AS Level Individual Differences/Abnormality We define behaviour as abnormal if it falls into one of the following categories: Behaviour that is statistically infrequent Behaviour that deviates from social norms Behaviour, which prevents an individual from functioning adequately Behaviour that deviates from ideal mental health Statistical Infrequency If behaviour is frequent it is normal, if it is infrequent then it is abnormal Some behaviour is measured on a quantitative scale e.g. how much anxiety someone experiences This is the same for some physical characteristics e.g. height This definition depends on comparing an individual's behaviour to that of the average person Evaluation Many behaviours are statistically rare but still desirable and healthy e.g. music and maths talent There are behaviours that are not rare but not desirable either e.g. killing Jews in Nazi Germany This equated conformists with normality yet non-conformists are valuable to society There is no point where behaviour goes from normal to abnormal Because of these points many people use this in conjunction with other criteria Deviation from Social Norms Society set rules and anyone who violates them is classified as abnormal This is not universal because these rules vary from culture to culture Evaluation This view assumes that if behaviour is socially acceptable than it

The Theory of Scientific Management.

Task 1A Theorist: Taylor Theory name: The Theory of Scientific Management Taylor put forward that workers are motivated mainly by pay. Workers do not naturally enjoy their work which means they have to have close supervision and control. In order to do this, managers should break down production into a small series of tasks. Workers then should be given appropriate training and tools so that they are able to work efficiently as possible when appointed a task. Workers are then paid according to how much they produce (time-piece rate pay). As a result this increases productivity. I have gathered this information from: http://www.tutor2u.net/business/gcse/people_motivation_theories.htm Financial interests would include: * Opportunities to achieve bonuses eg. Employee of the month * Rewards after a certain duration such as an extra 5% on top of what has been earned Non-financial interests would include: * Holidays abroad that have already been paid for * Company discounts What business would it help? This strategy could be used for businesses such as Jessops (an electrical store). If the worker plays a role of a sales executive, manager or assistant, they could be paid according to how much they sell. This would encourage them to work harder as they would be getting paid according to how much they are selling. This is called piece rate pay and they still receive a

History ________________ Back in 1919, a person called Jack Cohen founded Tesco, at first he was selling groceries at a stall at Well Street Market, Hackney, in the East End of London. The Tesco brand then appeared in 1924. The first Tesco store was opened in 1929 in Burnt Oak, Edgware, and Middlesex. Tesco made its presence on the London Stock Exchange in 1947 as Tesco Stores (Holdings) Limited. Originally Tesco specialised in food and drink, now the business has broadened into different areas of retail such as clothing, electronics (Technika), financial services (Tesco Finance), telecoms (Tesco Mobile), home (Tesco Home Insurance, health, car, dental and pet insurance, retailing and renting DVDs, CDs, music downloads, Internet services and software. Is Christ a Kantian?

(My name is: Sim Yong Kiat. My email address is [email protected]. This work is on Kantian Ethics for university students.) Is Christ a Kantian? A Kantian must believe that happiness needs to be deserved, yet Christ says, "Ask and you will be given," not "Do and you shall deserve." Is the moral man really one who merely does moral acts? Remember Christ also says, wash the inside of the dishes and the outside will also be clean. Thus, Christ does distinguish between a moral man and one who merely acts morally. A moral man must do what Kantian Ethics says, for Kantian Ethics is indeed the correct description of ethics, though a man who obeys Kantian Ethics every time need not be a moral man at all. What I want to say is that, Kantian Ethics is only a description of ethics, rather than an explanation, for ethics is also about the man, not only about the act. Kantian Ethics can only be half-completed in answering the question, What is a moral act? The other half i.e. the question on, Who is a moral man? (or Why be moral?) is still unanswered. For as a human being, one needs not only to know, but also to be inspired. If the task of describing ethics is more important than the inspiring of man to be moral, Christ would have chosen to be a philosopher. And that is why Kant's contribution to ethical philosophy is as great as the contribution of Newton in Natural

scarlet Letter.

scarlet Letter It has been said that Hawthorne condemns the Puritan society of Boston and at the same time presents it as a stable necessary environment for the New England settlers at that time. In the scarlet letter the core of the story line revolves around a movement known as the Puritan. The Puritan movement began when King Henry declared England's independence from the Church of Rome and he appointed himself head of the new Church of England. King Henry did this because he wanted to divorce his wife Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Boleyn. By appointing himself head of the Church of England he was able to grant himself his own divorce that the pope would not give him. At first there was little difference between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic but later with the spread of Protestant reformers such as John Calvin the church began to change. Some people thought the church of England retained too many of the superstitious practises of the Roman Catholic Church. They wanted simpler truths and less structured forms of worship like the earlier Christians, because they wanted to purify the Church of England, they got the name of Puritans. John Geree describes the puritans as "one, that honoured God above all, and under God gave every one his due"! These Puritans followed a very strict code of practise; they were greatly influenced by the bible, their
