The business chosen to investigate is McDonalds, McDonalds is the worlds largest fast food chain with over 58 million customers using the restaurants daily. It has 1231 restaurants in the UK alone which is a total of roughly 48,000 employees in the UK and 1.5 million employees worldwide. McDonalds can be found in 119 countries around the world with more than 31,000 restaurants worldwide. Although it is criticised for being very unhealthy it has tried to change that by adding fruit and vegetables onto the kids menu to encourage children to eat 5 fruit and vegetables a day. McDonalds offers a quick and easy service, there are varieties of ways to order either order at counter and/or then get it delivered to your car, drive through, eat in or take away. At McDonald's restaurants there are lots of facilities along side the food including: toilets, phones and information leaflets. McDonalds has so many customers going to their restaurants everyday because the food is of a cheap price and so is easy for anyone of any income to buy, it is also easy to eat as it does not need any cutlery or plates. It is fast to buy and then to eat as it is intended to be. The T-Mobile website is already very effective and offers almost everything available in a shop therefore there are only two ways in which I feel improvements can be made; Offering a phone comparison feature would be very useful. This feature would allow customers to compare the functions, specifications and prices of several products at once. When loading one of the 'shop' pages such as pay as you go deals I found the initial page very overpowering. There is a lot of information and graphics on a single page and therefore I would recommend simplifying these pages. I would recommend two new sponsorship deals, one with Manchester United FC and the second with X-Factor. Manchester United FC is not only regarded as the best British football club but they also have the largest fanbase in the world. This would increase sales with Man United fans and the publicity would be immense considering T-Mobile would be branded on every football kit and across the stadium. Health and Safety Survey Survey on Health and safety in a local environment. Health and safety is an extremely important topic which every workplace and organisation must concentrate on, as part of my assignment I carried out a survey in the college canteen to identify all the hazards in that environment and all the risks from each hazard. Corridor Upon walking to the canteen I noticed that the corridors were extremely narrow, only enough space to fit two people walking side by side down there, this was no way enough space to fit a wheelchair person comfortably down with enough room for another person passing. Service users are risk of being injured by others banging into them, wheelchair users running into them, wheelchair users hitting themselves on walls, blind service users being pushed around when walking down the corridor and generally all service users finding it difficult to get down the corridor to the canteen. This hazard could be overcome by simply making the corridor wider; this would allow a wheelchair user and another service user to pass comfortably past each other without being at risk of injuring themselves. Why did the Liberals lose the 1874 election? The reason for the Liberal's 1874 election defeat is a common area of debate amongst historians. Historians often argue that it was the rise of the Conservative Party and Disraeli that caused the Liberals to lose support. Others argue that it was the unpopularity of the vast amount of the Liberal Party's policies that lost them the votes of the masses. In addition to the lack of popular policies, it is often put forward that the growing divisions within the Liberal Party caused its defeat. Finally, historians such as Vincent regularly argue that the election defeat was due to the external circumstances of the time. Watts argues that it was Disraeli's leadership of a more appealing Conservative Party that caused the Liberal election defeat. He emphasises the importance of Disraeli's tactics in opposition, especially his refusal to accept office after the collapse of the Liberal government in 1873. This further weakened the Liberal Party as it was forced to limp on for another eighteen months and further secured the Conservative election victory. Disraeli's numerous speeches also contributed to the loss of Liberal support such as his speech at Manchester in 1872 in which he attacked Gladstone's policies as 'endangering national institutions'. A good relationship between staff and management is one in which each party respects and trusts one another, communicates with and understands one another and understands clearly what is expected of each other. Each party must make a fair contribution towards satisfying the interests of the other party. Demands placed on each other must be reasonable. Compromise and co-operation both play important roles in safeguarding the interests of the business while also satisfying the conflicting interests of it's workforce. It is imperative to build and maintain healthy staff/management relations for the following reasons. Good relations help to prevent disputes and if conflict does arise it can be better resolved between staff and management who have already developed a good working relationship which helps to ensure as little disruption to normal operations as possible. Good staff/management relations lead to high morale amongst a workforce. A happy workforce is a more productive one. The employer will also find it easier to retain its employees. Poor relations can lead to an unhappy workforce and dissatisfied management which is likely to result in reduced productivity and the overall failure of the business. Macroeconomics can be defined as "the study of whole economic systems aggregating over functioning of individual economic units" (Bannock G, 2003: 236). Criminal cases where the offence in summary or triable either way are heard by magistrates. Summary would be cases with minor offences such as speeding and drink driving, whilst triable either way are potentially more serious cases such as theft, burglary or ABH.
