Personal study for art

My chosen artist and why The artist that I have chosen to look at is Barbara Kruger. I have chose to look at her work because I found her work very appealing and it inspired me more then any other artist that I have researched. The reason I think her work inspired is because most of her work consists of violence against women and I am very against this matter. Kruger expresses her views on this matter through text and photography in her art work. It's like her aim is to show people how women are treated in this world. As I am a female myself I was attracted by her work and it made me want to research more in depth and create work in her style. She layers found photographs from existing sources with pithy and aggressive text that involves the viewer in the struggle for power and control that her captions speak to. Most of her work includes text in black or white letters against a slash of red background, some of her instantly recognizable slogans read "I shop therefore I am," and "Your body is a battleground." I think much of her text questions the viewer about feminism, classicism, consumerism, and individual autonomy and desire, although her black-and-white images are culled from the mainstream magazines that sell the very ideas she is disputing. Here is a few of Kruger's works attached together. It shows a view of what her work is about. She uses words such as "hate",

The major differences between the two movies of Romeo and Juliet.

The major differences between the two movies Romeo and Juliet who were made by Franco Zefferelli in 1968 and Baz Luhrmann in 1998, are that they were interpretative different ways because the historical and social context of the two films which may have influenced the two directors to portray their movies the way they did. . One interpretation was to make an authentic realistic movie trying keeps to the original era it was set in which was the medieval ages. The other interpretation was a very modern and tried to make a lot of money using its modern sound and visual special effects. When Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet he did not included a lot of stage directions in his script. This meant that the director of the movie had to interpret the movies the way they had pictured or thought it should be. Both of these directors had different ideas on how to illustrate this story to people in film form as they have approached it in different techniques and at different times meaning their audience intended was different and their culture and social and historical context would be different. In both the movies the directors try to portray their characters in different ways. They both had different ideas of how they should display the characters. Who contributes more to The Merchant of Venice Shylock or Portia?

Who contributes more to "The Merchant of Venice" - Shylock or Portia? "The Merchant of Venice" is a play written by William Shakespeare, between the years 1596 and 1598. It is of the tragic comedy genre that Shakespeare is so familiar with; the play's plot illustrates how friendship and love triumph over greed. "The Merchant of Venice" consists of many intriguing characters, although there are two individuals that contribute to the play massively and can be appreciated from different perspectives. These characters are Shylock and Portia. Shylock is definitely the most complicated character within The Merchant of Venice, due to the fact that he possesses the two major roles of being both a villain and a victim. At first Shylock is portrayed as a monstrosity, who lusts for Antonio's life. Although when a deeper understanding of Shylock is attained, it appears that he is a righteous member of the community who has endured both physical and verbal abuse for his religion. He is first encountered in Act 1, Scene 3 were Antonio and Bassanio wish to receive 3000 ducats from Shylock's money lending business. Shylock is shocked that Antonio has came to him for a favour, "He hath disgraced me half a million, laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies and what's his reason? I am a Jew" This listing

19th Century Literature and Jurisprudential Implications. Victorian Legislation on Wife-Beating and Anne Bronte's "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall".

Before exploring the legal and jurisprudential influence 19th Century feminist novels, it is important to illustrate the extraordinarily extreme conditions that were placed upon the wife in Victorian England. Of course to assume violence was a frequent occurrence throughout England would be false, however such instances were anything but a rarity. From Frances Power Cobbe's famous essay 'Wife Torture in England' comes this emphatically graphic depiction demonstrating the sickening situation; 'John Harris, a shoemaker, at Sheffield, found his wife and children in bed; dragged her out, and after vainly attempting to force her into the oven, tore off her night-dress and turned her round before the fire "like a piece of beef", while the children stood on the stairs listening to their mother's agonized screams.'1 Victorian men beat their wives, and they did so, because the law let them, and this was the case until June 1853, 'an act was passed... entitled "An Act for the Better Prevention and Punishment for Aggravated Assaults upon Women and Children; and for Preventing Delay and Expense in the Administration of the Criminal Law"2. But how far was such a push influenced by literature? This essay will focus upon Anne Bronte's second and final book, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. The Tenant was written in and around the similar time period that Anne's sisters' wrote Jane Eyre and

Explain how the human rights position of the Jews has improved since World War 2?

Andrew McKean 2nd December 2003 History coursework Explain how the human right position of the Jews has improved since World War 2? In this essay I am going to explain 'the Human right position of the Jews and has it improved since World War 2. The reason why the Jewish survivors left Europe when the war ended was because they didn't want to be treated unfairly. Also the Jews the Jews wanted to get out of Germany as quickly as possible. Most of the survivors from the camps wanted a place that they could call home and they wouldn't be bothered. When Hitler was in power the Jews were treated really badly, even the school children were treated different from the other children and they were taught to hate the Jews and bully them. If some of the teachers were caught not teaching the children to hate the Jews then they could have been fired or beaten, Hitler would have people to follow the teachers home and then beat the up or question them. Some of the Jewish children would skip school in an attempt to avoid been bullied at school but this would give the Nazi's a reason to say that they couldn't be bothered to go to school. Hitler thought that the Jewish people were very different from everybody else so he made it a law that Jewish people had different rules from everybody else e.g. Jews had to sit on seats that had a mark on them

'Now the ordinary rule of law is, that whoever has got the solum-whoever has got the site-is the owner of everything up to the sky and down to the centre of the earth' (Corbett v Hill (1870) LR 9 EQ 671 at 673, per Sir William James V-C). Explain the above statement and discuss its accuracy in relation to airspace and subterranean space. You should include in your answer a discussion of whether it might be possible to claim adverse possession of airspace and subterranean space. (You should not consider fixtures or finder's titles.) The law concerning airspace and subterranean space appears to be exceptionally complex and to an extent even outdated. Sir William James' attempt to clarify the law using the Latin maxim "cuis est solum eius est usque ad coelum et ad inferos"1 seems to have created even more legal uncertainty and appears to have done more harm than good. The maxim is now subject to vast exceptions as well as having been denounced by contemporary legal commentators and even senior judges. This essay will explore the accuracy of Sir William James' judgement; it will also question the argument that the maxim is still considered "the ordinary rule of law"2 and will look at how modern land law has gone about dealing with the legal confusion caused by this judgement, focusing primarily on airspace and subterranean space. Firstly, in order to explain the above

"Facing It" is about the author, Yusef Komunyakaa returning to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and reminiscing about his past.

Poetry Paper Dr. James April 27, 2003 Reality Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try we cannot escape the past. "Facing It" is about the author, Yusef Komunyakaa returning to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and reminiscing about his past. He talks about his time at war as he looks up and down the memorial at the names engraved in it. There are also three other people mentioned in the poem that have different significant meaning. For Yusef Komunyakaa just being at the memorial brings back so many unpleasant memories. The poem starts out with Yusef Komunyakaa approaching the wall in a brave manner, trying not to let his emotions show. However, he breaks down and tears are released down his face. He looks at the stone and sees more than just granite with names imprinted on it. He imagines the war and he lets the stone represent the war. "the stone lets me go" (9). What Yusef Komunyakaa is saying is that he had survived the war; it let him go on with his life. "I touch the name Andrew Johnson;/ I see the booby trap's white flash" (17/18). He is having a flash back, as he touches his friends name and can recall what had happened to him. Yusef Komunyakaa is facing the war all over again in his mind. A white vets' image floats closer to me, then his pale eyes look through mine. I'm a window. He's lost his right arm Inside the stone. In the black mirror
