Investigating a business and what business do - London Heathrow Marriott (LHM) and Tescos.

Maha Humayune 0-B Investigate: What a business is and what businesses do The two businesses I have chosen are the London Heathrow Marriott (LHM) and Tesco’s. I chose Tesco’s because Tesco’s is an exceedingly conventional company, so there will be abundant information available for Tesco’s. Tesco is an international company that has stores situated in place like China, Czech Republic, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and the Unites States of America. Whereas, LHM is also a very well-know business but we will be focusing on Marriott’s local branch in London, London Heathrow Marriott a national business. I chose Tesco’s as my business as Tesco’s and LHM are two completely different businesses. They both have different fields and it would be a good comparison as you would be comparing the local LHM to the international business Tesco’s. A further statement would be how Tesco’s increases their business worldwide and how LHM functions nationally to compare how the two organisations handle their business further to increase their profit and how they use decision-making. Other reasons can be whether LHM a national business can be more successful than Tesco an international business. Furthermore; reasons being both business function in completely diverse sectors having LHM in the

MARK WARNER HOLIDAYS LTD MK280 Marketing Applications Hand-In Date: 22nd January 2009 Mark Warner Holidays Aim This marketing report is going to look at the internal and external analysis of Mark Warner Holidays Ltd. It will identify the strengths and weaknesses of the business and look at potential opportunities or remedies for the main problem it may have. Company Background Mark Chitty set up Mark Warner in 1974 as he saw a gap in the market for singles and couples activity holidays. Chitty borrowed the £1000 he needed to secure their first chalet in Verbier, Switzerland and Mark Warner Holidays was founded. It was largely family run as Mark himself took to ski hosting, and his mother dealt with all of the bookings, and organised the cooking and cleaning of the chalet. The following year, Chitty wanted to expand his business into Val D'Isère in France, but needed more money to do this. He called upon his school friend, Andrew Searle, to help with the finances. In 1982, the Mark Warner Summer Programme was introduced with beach holidays and water-sports replacing the chalets and skiing. Mark Warner's philosophy is to combines great locations, good company, friendly staff and a relaxed environment to offer unique holidays. With Chitty and Searle's entrepreneurial skills, the business has developed into 'one of the most highly regarded independent travel companies

Introduction This GCSE coursework is about setting up a free-range egg unit in the Retford area. Free-range eggs are produced by hens that have access to nesting areas, scratching areas and outdoor exercise areas giving them opportunity to express their natural behaviour and instincts, by foraging for plants and insects etc. The aim of this project is to establish if it is feasible and cost effective to start up such a business and identify a suitable market for the product; taking into consideration legal requirements for animal welfare. In order to complete this project I will need to research the following areas:- * Cost of suitable agricultural land in Retford; establishing if it would be best to rent or purchase. * Type of housing including fixtures and fittings for egg laying, perching, egg collection and automated feeding system for the hens; including costs and planning limitations. * Market research of the product and its future, including public perceptions, supply and demand. * Existing and future legislative changes regarding egg production In order to investigate the above area I will use a variety of both primary and secondary research methods. I will research the cost of land in Retford by contacting local land agents and by making reference to the John Nix Farm Management Pocketbook in order to establish current values. I will research suitable

Comparision of Sainsburys and Thorpe Park.

Introduction I chose business studies because I want to know how to manage and multiply money. I have to compare 2 businesses that I have chosen. I chose Sainsbury and Thorpe park because the correlation is scarce and the contrast is big e.g. Thorpe park is an ltd and Sainsbury's is a plc. Sainsbury's is a national company and Thorpe Park is a big local business. I chose Sainsbury because it can be easily visited and I am focusing on the wolfish Sainsbury branch, there's also a lot of information that I know on this organization. To get information on Thorpe park is very difficult (because it is and ltd.) but I wanted a different business from Sainsbury and Thorpe park is very interesting. If I was to compare Tesco and Sainsbury it will have many similarities which will sound very repetitive but the companies I am comparing two businesses that sell completely different things from each other.
