Creating an anti-smoking leaflet.
Identify The Welsh Assembly in Cardiff are going to start a big campaign to try and deter young people from starting smoking. It also wants to try and get people to quit smoking. For this campaign they will be making leaflets to promote anti-smoking and depositing them in different places like community centres and schools. The assembly has asked me to design a leaflet providing information to young people to young people about the dangers of smoking. This is part of their policy to let young people design the leaflets because they feel that they will be more in touch with other youngsters and will design leaflets which will be more appealing to them. The 'user' in this task will be the Welsh Assembly. They have to be happy that the leaflet is good enough to be reproduced professionally and given out around the country. I could produce this leaflet manually, e.g. handwritten with pictures stuck on but that would not look very professional and would take a long time to produce a large quantity of them. Also it would be difficult to correct any mistakes done while writing the information out. I could produce the leaflet on word processing software such as Microsoft Word XP because it will let me type in the required information and add some images and graphics. It honestly made my month, I enjoy talking to you and receiving very helpful tips for my future education. My education standards are higher than ever before, you will be pleased to know. My D.T (design technology) teacher as encouraged me to do further GCSE courses for example: graphic designs. Although this is a great opportunity to increase my learning level it is also one more thing to worry about, I have no idea what to do. My friends and I, are at the top of the class for this subject but my biggest ambition is to become a barrister. Having a graphic design GCSE grade will not help me to become one so I think it could be a complete waste of time. The task is to create some sort of form that will capture the relevant data from the people who fill it in. Consequently, people fill it in after collecting it in the shop, or at other shops...and then we get members, which leads to rentals, and money for my Uncle. The data capture form will be an A5 piece of paper, and will have all the relevant fields needed to input a new customer into the list. In this task, I will have to use boxes that are the same size and ones that are big enough to fit hand written letters in. In addition, the boxes will need to be straight, or it will look incompetent. Moreover, to create a professional look, it will have to be a small form, two per A4 sheets, because one per A4 sheet would be rather large, and extremely clumsy. Additionally, to reduce incompetence, I should align the boxes singularly, so that every box is in line perfectly. Introduction My objective is to promote a package for a newly formed company. I will be producing a handbags company, which will be called 'Noble & Wild'. What inspired me to choose a handbag company was actually my father. This is because he used to have a business in that trade. My company will be world-wide, which will attract the young female group aged between 18-30, as the bags produced will be used as a fashion accessory. There is a bright colour used for the Font, which catches your attention. Aswell as a name Used there is also an image included in the logo. It will be a food company, which produces top quality traditional Chinese food, e.g. moon cakes, 'waxed sausages', etc. This project will consist of making a logo for the company, a business card, a letter headed paper and an introductory leaflet. Evaluation My design brief was to produce proposals for the possible re-branding of my school. When doing this I researched what the faculties wanted and needed and so I designed a questionnaire to gather the information I required. I also researched different graphic designers, their work and various design movements throughout history such as Abram Games who is a British mid-twentieth century designer and official war artist during world war two. His style of design is very patriotic as in most of his work he uses red, white and blue; the colours of the union jack. He incorporates them very well and subtlety. I like his work because it's very classic, memorable and simple. His work is landmark. I did this because it gave me inspiration, an influence and it offered a look at how previous designers worked. I did web searches on the images connected to different faculties and just asked people what images came to mind when I said a faculty name this provided me with many logo ideas. In addition I looked at existing logo designs in books wherein designers explored many different techniques, which I could use in my designs.
