Logo Development

Practical Task 1 ~ Logo Design ~ Logo Development Top Toggs Top Toggs Top Toggs Top Toggs Top Toggs TopToggs TopToggs Design Specification A company logo serves as a tool to help gain a corporate image. A well known logo can be extremely powerful. For instance the following logos are almost instantly recognisable: In this instance 'McDonalds', 'Nike' and 'Calvin Klein' respectively. My main aim was to convey a simple modern image. Black and white is being increasingly used in logos (see above 'Nike' & Calvin Klein' logos) and they are relatively simple in design. The Top Toggs logo itself is incredibly simple: Two different simple fonts of different sizes with a line drawn underneath reflecting the thickness of the letters in its own size. Thanks to its simplicity it is usable in any size from letter heads to billboards which is important as it ensures constancy in advertising which builds customer confidence. Evaluation To create the logo I sampled some different fonts then chose ones which I thought were most suitable for the logo. They were then resized so they were both in a size ratio where they would compliment each other nicely. A simple thick black line was drawn beneath the 'Top' and a thinner one underneath the 'Toggs'. To create the logo I used a word processing package with drawing facilities (Microsoft Word XP) and an image editing application

Researching upon designing a computer game's cover (box)

Researching upon designing a computer game's cover (box) Using my research I found that my computer game could be packaged in a variety of different ways. After looking at my packaging designs I narrowed it down into two different designs, which were the box design and the DVD case design. I had to choose which one I was going to use for my product so I looked at there properties and found that the box design could be easily flat packed and was very cheap to make but the DVD case was not able to be flat packed and its material (Plastic) was not environmentally friendly. The materials I researched were paper, cardboard, corrugated card and Plastic. I immediately ruled out the paper because it was too thin and so I concentrated on the other three. I was thinking of using corrugated card but found it would be too difficult to flat pack and could ruin its overall shape when bent. So I was left with the cardboard and plastic. These were the two main materials I had to choose out of so I looked at their properties. Cardboard has an excellent printing surface and is also recyclable although it has a low strength ratio. The plastic on the other hand is very cheap, light, strong and is easy to mould into complex shapes although it isn't environmentally friendly and has disposal problems. If we can recycle this plastic then it could weaken its chemical structure. The questionnaire

Task analysis

Analysis I will be analysing the 5 tasks given in the booklet, in this analysis I will describe the problems given by the school, how I will solve the problem and with what software I will solve the problem. I will analyse the tasks in the order they where placed in the booklet. Task 1 Programme of events This is the first task and this task is to design a programme of events. Problem: The problem is to design a programme of events. The programme has to be a four-page A5 booklet. On the first page there should be the school crest, two photographs of the school, the day and date of the sport day and the title "Sports Day 2002". We have to produce two A4 sheets that we can use as masters for the inside and outside of the programme. On the middle page we need a list of events with the times of the events added. The events will be in order of times and there will only be track events because the field events would have been done earlier. On the back page I will have a half-page advert from this years sports day sponsors `Helmcroft Hall'. The size of the advert can be changed to suit the page layout. There should also be a list of last year's record breakers. The list of last year's record breakers and the events should have straight left edge columns with bold heading. The heading for list of events is `Programme of Events' and for the list of record

Which character does the reader have more sympathy for: Frankenstein or his creation?

Which character does the reader have more sympathy for: Frankenstein or his creation? After a careful read of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein I have come to the conclusion that I feel sorrier for Frankenstein's creation than I do for Frankenstein himself. The main reason for this is how much choice the pair of them had. In my opinion the monster is in a worse situation as it was given life without being consulted. The monster may or may not have wanted life, but nevertheless it didn't have a choice. On the other hand Frankenstein had a great deal of choice in what he was doing and a very long time in which he could consider his actions (he was even advised against it). Due to these reasons I feel more sympathy towards the monster than I do towards Victor Frankenstein. Despite how sympathetic I feel, I do like Frankenstein more than his creation. My main reason for this is that the monster, perhaps through little fault of its own, is a murderer. This shows that the monster has bad intentions whilst Frankenstein does not. This is but one example of just how open 'Frankenstein' is. Shelley leaves it up to the reader to make his/her own decisions on the book. Due to this I think Frankenstein is a fantastic book and rightly deserves to be as highly acclaimed as it is today. During this essay I shall be weighing up just how Shelley makes the reader feel more sympathetic towards the

Sonoco trident, DPIA and Motar printing

UNIT A: APPLICATION OF NEW TECHNOLOGY IN MANUFACTURING PRINTING There are many different companies that operate in the manufacture of printing. But I have chosen just three which are: Sonoco trident, DPIA and Motar printing Introduction In the manufacture of printing there are a number of stages that have to be completed these stages are: Capturing an image Many graphic projects begin with "analogue" images such as 35 mm slides, transparencies or reflective art. To produce a "digital" image, these elements are converted to digital files, which can be manipulated on a computer system. This step is usually accomplished by scanning the analogue image. The scanner measures reflected or transmitted light from the analogue image, assigning numerical values to the colours or tones in the image to create a digital copy. With the image "translated" into a series of numbers, the information can be stored on a computer hard disk or other electronic media such as a removable drive, PhotoCD or magnetic tape. Once the image has been converted to numbers, it can be transferred from one computer to another or sent electronically. Here are some things you need too know in the printing sector of manufacture. Analogue - data stored in a continuous form. Digital - data processed using binary numbers (0 and 1) through on/off impulses. Scanner - an input device that digitises

To create a recruitment leaflet for my local squadron of the Air Training Corps (ATC)

DTP Project Squadron 578 Langley Park Identify My plan is to create a recruitment leaflet for my local squadron of the Air Training Corps (ATC), 578 Langley Park Sqn. I will include a list of activities, a map of the local area, for easy finding, as well as any extra information, such as website, contact numbers, email addresses etc. I will choose to use a word processor over a desktop publisher as I find them easier to use and I do not need to add backgrounds and borders to it. Also I can make it form the layout of a leaflet better in a word processor. The word processor I shall use will be Microsoft Word as I have access to it at home and school. The most important thing is that I make it attractive to the target audience (13-14 year olds). To do this I will have to find out what sort of things, that link to the ATC, do the target audience like to see. The hardware used will include an inkjet colour printer, to print in colour, scanner, to scan pictures in, and a digital camera, to take pictures to place in Analyse I have spoken to the Commanding officer and he wishes to have a leaflet made so that extra cadets could be recruited. The leaflet should be easy to understand and be found attractive to the target audience of 13-14 year olds of either sex. The information I require will be a map of the local area for the audience to locate the squadron, as well as

Made In the USA This Essay tries to explain why Americans make some things well and others badly.) A few years ago an Italian friend of mine travelled by train from Boston to Providence. She had only been in America for a couple weeks and hadn't seen much of the country yet. She arrived looking astonished. "It's so ugly!" People from other rich countries can scarcely imagine the squalor of the man-made bits of America. In travel books they show you mostly natural environments: the Grand Canyon, whitewater rafting, horses in a field. If you see pictures with man-made things in them, it will be either a view of the New York skyline shot from a discreet distance, or a carefully cropped image of a seacoast town in Maine. How can it be, visitors must wonder. How can the richest country in the world look like this? Oddly enough, it may not be a coincidence. Americans are good at some things and bad at others. We're good at making movies and software, and bad at making cars and cities. And I think we may be good at what we're good at for the same reason we're bad at what we're bad at. We're impatient. In America, if you want to do something, you don't worry that it might come out badly, or upset delicate social balances, or that people might think you're getting above yourself. If you want to do something, as Nike says, just do it. This works well in some fields and badly in

Collecting images from clip art

When collecting images from clip art I think is much more difficult than collecting them from the internet because with clip art if you are not specific with your search then they will bring up something completely different to your search criteria. It's the same with the internet but you can search for anything and everything. With Clip Art you have a more restricted search this is because you only have certain categories to pick from and also looking at my clip art images it really is not of any relevance to me but it was the closet to the sort of business I am creating, but now with the images I collected from the internet it clearly shows me the type/kind of logo I will be looking to produce for my company. Selecting Information for my purpose (ICT Sources & Non-ICT Sources) From my Non- ICT Sources the ones that I think are most relevant to me would be number s 2,3 & 5 I think they are relevant to my company because: Number 2: This is very relevant to my document that I am going to produce my letterhead with because it is a letterhead. I like the way that this letterhead is laid out with the logo and slogan together and all the text and information to one side but still visible to see. The other side just contains additional information about whom the letter is written by. This is the exact way I am going to set out my letterhead because I think it is an

DT Specification

Design Specification Function: My product must look good and luxurious and must be appealing to customers; it must also be able to protect chocolate inside the packaging. The function of the design that is going to go on the packaging has to attract the eye and has to make the chocolate look a luxurious product. Target Market: The product should be aimed at anybody, and any age but most of all attract the mature members of the public. Other members of the public it will have to attract are maybe the wealthy members. The needs of the target market will be to use chocolate as a gift and that they need to go for luxurious types of chocolate. Materials: The main package which is the box will need to be made of Card this is because it is easy to fold, score and shape it is also recyclable. Inside there will be a tray for the chocolates - this will be made of a plastic substance that should be recyclable. Location: The product is likely to be used in a shop on display or stacked on shelves in the shop. This will affect the design by it maybe getting scuffed or maybe damaged. The product will also be used at a consumers household - here the design may get damaged and will look used. Manufacturing: To manufacture a prototype of my design I will need to use a precise designing computer programme and a precise cutter and scorer. To make a batch of 50 products I will probably need

Identify I have been contacted by Ritchie Hulks who is a member of the Dover Athletic Supporters Trust board recently. He has asked me if it would be possible to design a monthly newsletter for the trust because the trust feel at the moment that some of their members are not receiving enough information as they should be. I have been informed that the trust has over 500 members and only about 50 of them are being regularly informed as to what is going on, so the trust feel that a newsletter produced monthly would keep everyone who is a member up to date with what is happening. The DAST help run the club and organise many events, they feel that if these were better published then the club could make more money, the DAST is made up of supporters who have paid money to have a say in their football club. One of the things that the trust promised was that all members would be informed as to what is happening at the club. I have been asked to design this newsletter because the people who run=n the DAST have very limited computer knowledge. They would supply me with all the information and what they want from me is a professional looking design, which all the members will read. They have told me that the newsletter will need to be 2 sides of A4 and that I can decided how it should be laid out. I have also been supplied the logo of the DAST and they would like that to appear
