- I must output the garden centre's photograph, which I will find in the school network in the graphics file.
Identification of task two-Plant labels
Task two is the production of plant labels; Jo believes this will be a convenient method in solving plant-labelling problems. Examples of problems encounted include labels being dug into the soil, then getting knocked out. This can result in pots having incorrect labels.
I will produce a system for making stick on labels. Information of its eventual height, width, flowering period and a clear statement of the price must be included. Although the labels will be 5cm high by 9cm wide, company name and logo still must be inserted. Again colour and imagery is important.
Desired outcomes and Performance Criteria
- All plants we sell must be labelled.
- The Latin name of the plant
- The plants eventual height and width must be shown, along with its flowering period.
- There must be a clear statement of the price.
- Labels must include the Garden Centre name on
- I must have the company logo on the front.
- The measurements of the labels must be approximate 5cm high and 9cm wide.
- I will need to print out labels for all the plants flowering in a particular period.
- Plant labels must have a colourful border.

Identification of task three-Pond Kits
For this task I will create a model what can calculate the final cost of a pond kit. The model must be able to show individual prices of the pond liner, underliner, underwater plants (5 plants to every square metre), decorative plants (1 plant pack every meter around pond), water lilies and a fountain. The spreadsheet must be designed to answer frequent questions asked by customers such as “ I have a budget limit of £150, what is the greatest pond size available to me under theses circumstances?”
Calculations: -
To calculate the pond liner size, I will use these methods
Length of liner= (2.5 * depth) + length of pond
Width of liner=(2.5 * depth) + width of pond
Size of pond liner= length of pond liner * width of pond liner.
Calculation of the underliner is identical to the above
Number of decorative plant packs =
(Length of pondliner + width of pond liner) * 2
Under water plants
Number of bunches= length of liner * width of liner * 5
Here is a set of manual calculations; I can use to test my system
Mr Smith wants a pond measuring 2m * 1.5 and 1m deep. Cost will be:
I will work out a formula making certain cells round to the nearest whole number.
Part of this task is using my system to work out a pond problem with the budget of £300 pounds with Mr Patel. This will be covered later on.
Desired outcomes and Performance Criteria
- Computer must calculate changes in best fit for pond.
- Must be simple to change length, width and depth of pond when asked to.
- I must measure to the nearest centimetre.
- The pond liner will be measured at £4.40 a square metre.
- Under liner must be used to prevent damage, this will cost 90p a square metre.
- Five bunches of underwater plants are allowed to every square metre of the pond.
- I must only count whole bunches; therefore I will round up to the nearest bunch of plants.
- Decorative plants will calculate to one plant pack for every metre around the edge of the pond liner, this must be rounded up.
- Customers name must be on the sheet provided to them.
- It is important this model fits on one side of A4.
Testing
Testing is required in this section. See test plan in design.
Information to be output
- I must output a printout sheet with the customers name on
- I must output one sheet of A4.
The data needed to produce the output.
- I must output a printed sheet with the customers name on; I will find this in the provided booklet.
- I must output one sheet of A4, which will be in the printer.
Identification of task four-Website
Jo’s Garden Centre is improving, although, a competitive local store has a successful running website, Jo believes the creation of his own will persuade customers to purchase their items here.
I will design a homepage along with four other pages; a consistent layout and style will be required throughout all pages. I will divide this site into separate sections one example is list of bedding plants and rockery plants, this should fit neatly on to one a4 piece. It is crucial that it includes lists of prices and Latin names written in Italics.
Lists must not interfere in the attractive design planned, although numerous amounts of pictures will cause unprogressive delaying of the required page;
Colour, hyperlinks and clipart are all solutions.
The homepage will contain the garden centre name, address and contact number. I will insure plants and prices will be in incorrect places.
Desired outcome and performance criteria
- Homepage is required to input name and picture of Garden Centre.
- Emphasise importance that the plants we grow are from seeds or cuttings.
- I must include hyperlinks to the rest of my site.
- Separate pages will be needed for trees and shrubs, herbaceous perennials and garden supplies. Bedding plants and rockery plants will also need one page.
- The garden supplies page will consist of Latin names, prices and an item list.
- Each separate page must be noticeably attractive.
- The site will be divided into separate sections for different products.
- A consistent layout and style is desired.
- There are no online sales.
- A single picture is all that is necessary for each page.
- Links are required on all pages, e.g. homepage to other pages, and then back to previous pages.
- Text links will have to be the same as the titles of the page.
- Little pictures used for links can be found in clipart.
- Website will contain a home page and four other pages.
- Address and phone number must appear on homepage.
- I must insure lists; prices and pictures are published on correct pages.
-
I will produce the Latin plant name in Italics.

Identification of task five-Database search engine
For my final task I will produce a list of plants that do not exceed a given size and which grow in specific light conditions. The purpose of this is because customers ask for particular plants, which fit into their space in the garden. The system must be designed to be simple and easy to use. I will test this by inputting plants with a specific height and width. The lists must include the garden centre name and a logo. It must be separated into column headings otherwise customers may get height and width of plant mixed up. This must fit neatly on to one page of A4.
Desired outcomes and performance criteria
- It must be able to search for plants surviving on either light or shade.
- I must design a system beneficial to customers, guiding them to search for plants with certain height, width and light requirements.
- I must publish a printed list of plants for use of customers whilst examining the store.
- The list must include garden centre name, logo and ‘light requirements.’
- This must fit accurately on one A4 sheet.
- Common name, maximum height, maximum width and the flowering period are fields essential for printing.
- Column headings are required, for customer needs.
