Drama Stimulus - The Future

The Future ________________ After being told that our main topic will be The Future, I was initially reminded about the prospect of robots or the end of the world. We approached this discussion by talking about the past and the huge changes that have happened in the past 30 years. We came to an agreement that the biggest change has been technology, for example the change from vinyl recorders to the CD player. This made me wonder whether our ability of technology could improve further or if we had reached the extent of our abilities. We then went on to discuss ideas on the possible future in the next 30 years and how the changes could affect us. I also think these changes will make people lazier and less resourceful. We discussed that the idea of robots would increase unemployment creating a bigger divide between the rich and poor in society. We also considered the fact that scientists produce such items due to their inspiration from movies made by people with creative minds. This reminded me that it was not just scientists who collaborate to make the ideas of the future possible. For our first task, we had to perform an advert occurring in 30 years time. Both groups decided to include a positive and even exaggerated attitude to the piece as it was an advert. We decided to advertise having pills as food as this was a topic we had discussed. Originally we wanted to compare

Unit 1 - Documentary Response to Children's Drama

Kalain Hosein The Characteristics and Conventions of Children Stories In my first lesson on fairy tales, we read through some stories such as “The Rainbow Fish” and “Going on A Bear Hunt” where we examined stories studying the similarities and conventions of the stories, which eventually, we performed to Year 1’s. The most obvious characteristics that we learnt were: . Struggle between Protagonists and Antagonists 2. Royalty 3. Magic 4. Repetition 5. In-animate objects coming to life 6. Good is triumphant 7. Morals 8. Beginning – “Once upon a time…” 9. Ending – “They all live happily ever after.” 0. Quests While understanding the characteristics of fairy tales and children stories, we, collectively as a group, figured the conventions of the story where we learnt it followed The Narrative Theory. Mime and The Narrative Theory Mime was the first technique that we attempted this year. The majority of the class had little experience. While learning how to mime, we quickly understood that all our other features as an actor would have to be exaggerated and emphasised, which was an obstacle for some members of our class including me. In our first fairy tale mime from our memory, we mimed the fairy tale “The Little Red Riding Hood.” We had to do completely different methods of portraying emotions. Me, as the wolf, I had to walk slowly

Drama Stimulus - a different state of mind such as depression and mental illnesses

Nalin Dissanayake :7023 ‘A different state of mind’ Oasis Academy Coulsdon 14377 We was learning about different states of mid such as depression, mental illnesses and things that could lead up to different states of mind how it could affect a person and how it was dealt with throughout history. I’m going to talk about the lesson in which we based around ‘society ’and ‘the accident’. In the lesson on ‘Society’ we had to incorporate a still image and a small monologue that showed our thoughts on the current event, in our group we decided that a patient who has just been let out of a mental hospital, the characters involved: a doctor, a taxi driver, a care worker and a security guard. For our first image we had the patient leaving the hospital for the first time under a lot of observation by two professional people, the patient herself was incredibly nervous and scared and refused to get into the taxi… we showed this by having the care worker was trying to encourage the patient in by holding her hand out and the patient had her body leaning away from the taxi and facial expressions were tense and was disturbed. I was the doctor examining the situation, to show I was a doctor I mimed holding a clipboard and a pen taking notes, in my monologue I talked about re-thinking my choice in letting the patient out of the hospital. The actual image we

Monologue - My mother was dying (This is just a performance it's not true)

My Mother was dying and I went shopping. What was I thinking? She had given me money and I went out; went shopping to but myself a new pair of shoes and meet Jessie, and she was lying in bed. She could hardly move. When I finally got home, Mum was so weak, she could barely stand up. She’d been gagging and heaving and I hadn’t been there. Dad took her to that nightmare doctor, Dr. Luskin and Mum was placed into the hospital. I cried because I was so relieved that she was going to the hospital. I couldn’t stand to listen to her sick noises; to her suffering. She never came home. Dad never said anything to me. But I know that he thought I should have stayed at home with her. All I can think about is how I should have stayed home that afternoon, and all those afternoons, not gone to netball practice, not left her to that visiting nurse who came an hour a day three times a week, who took her blood pressure and temperature. And that physical therapist who made her stand and attempt to lift her leg. The woman was almost dead and they were making her do exercises. I should have protected her. I should have been there in the hospital with her when she died. But no, I was at home, asleep. Dad was there with her. He said it was ok that she had died peacefully. But how could it be peaceful to die? I had to throw the shoes away; I couldn’t keep them, not after what had happened.

Homeless monologue

Unit 1 development Introduction The task we have been set is to write a monologue about a character that has featured in the last few lessons, Link, Vince, Carole or Mum from the extract from the novel Stone Cold. Or, if we don't want to do one of them we can be someone who is currently living on the streets. We also have to write about the set, costumes, lighting, sounds and props that we could use to suit our characters personality and mood. The character I have chosen to do is a different homeless person. This way, I can invent the character myself and play them in a complete different way. I can give them any background and any personality. The personality I have chosen for my character is a strong one because they have been living on the streets for a number of years. Costume, sound, lighting, set and props. The costume that I would have would be a simple one. Grubby shoes, torn jeans and t-shirt or jacket with dirt on it. This way I can show the audience what it can look like to live on the streets. I wouldn't have any music for when I am performing, but I may just have daily noises such as traffic, pedestrians talking to indicate the location. As I would be on the streets at night time, I would just have spots of light to represent street lights, and it would be quite dim to represent the time of day. I would have a carrier bag of newspapers, maybe a sleeping bag.

Rehearsal Methods

On the 24th of November myself, Adam and Stephen took part in a drama performance. The performance we put on was adapted from Blood Brothers by Willie Russell. We played a scene near the start of the play set in the 1970's. I played Mickey, Adam played Edward and Stephen played Sammy. Mickey and Edward are both 7 in our scene and Sammy is about 10. In order for us to prepare ourselves for these parts we had to use a number of rehearsal methods in order for us to perform the best possible drama and achieve the most marks possible. Some of he Rehearsal Methods we used include: * Recording our voice and listening to it back. * Mirror Work * Research on the Internet and books. * Watched a film by Willie Russell also set in Liverpool. * Trying to get into character by playing games. * Hot seating. * Mime. * Improvisation. Recording Voice: In order for all of us to try and develop a Liverpool accent we recorded our voices and then listened to them back to try and improve our accents. We as a group found this method very helpful as we all were playing young children and we had to try and develop Liverpool children's accents for both the upper and lower class as Mickey and Sammy came from a lower class family whereas Edward came from an other class family. When we played our voices back we were able to hear how they sounded and the next time we could try and develop our

Devised Improvisation on the topic of war

Drama Essay - Devised Improvisation Our improvisation topic is on "War." We decided that this was a good topic as most people in the world were affected by the war in someway, whether it's directly like being in battle themselves, or having family in battles or just having their life changed or even having to watch the devastating effects on the news. This means that it gives a very wide range of ideas that we can look at. The ideas we looked at in a brief way were direct battles, life for soldiers, and home life during the war, prisoners of war and going into hiding during the war. We looked at many resources to see where we could get the most useful information. We looked at recent newspapers on the war in Iraq, sheets of factual information about many wars, and poetry discussing the feelings of people during the war. We looked at many ideas, concentrated mainly on the two ideas of being affected by the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and prisoners of war. One poem we looked at, called 'fifteen million plastic bags' by Adrian Mitchell, was a good storyline to look at about nuclear warfare. We decided overall to do a story of how Jews were treated in the war, and decided to be a typical Jewish family living in Germany, and show their struggle to live a normal life, and they go into hiding. We felt this was a very emotional subject, and could be acted out the best that we could, and

The Seven Deadly Sins: Response Phase

Seven Deadly Sins Stimulus The stimulus we were given was The Seven Deadly sins which we interpreted in different ways. We started the workshop on "x" November and continued to study it for 8 drama lessons. I had previous knowledge of the stimulus and knew that they are immoral faults committed by man in different forms. When I researched the seven deadly sins into more depth I found that there were many different names for each sin, they derive from the Christian bible and they are the opposites of the Seven Virtues. When in class we decided on the names and terms we would use collectively so not to get confused when referring to them. Greed: This is where you want more than you need such as money or food. Sloth/Laziness: Being idle and not excelling at your talents. Lust: Sexual desires that you shouldn't be having. Wrath: Can be defined as either losing your temper easily or being angry generally. Envy: This is where you are jealous of something that is beyond your reach, for example hair or personality. Pride: Loving your self or seeing yourself to be more important than others. Covetousness: This is where you want something that someone else has in terms of material item, for instance shoes, houses or televisions. These sins could be personified as objects or we could base a character on one of these sins. Still Images A still image is a snapshot of a
