Blood Brothers Performance

Blood Brothers Performance Evaluation of a Live Piece of Drama I went to see "Blood Brothers" at the Phoenix Theatre in London on Thursday 9th June, for the matinee, 2:30, performance. The piece of Drama, in my opinion, was very successful, having thoroughly believed the characters and their roles throughout the performance, and left with a satisfied feeling that I had seen a plausible and realistic piece of true, entertaining drama. This essay will detail the things in the play that have led me to this opinion, as well as things on which I thought could have been improved. Blood Brothers tells the story of two twin boys, separated at birth only to be bought together and dragged apart throughout the play, ending in tragedy when they truly discover who they are. When Mrs. Johnston discovers she's expecting twins, the only thing she can do to keep the family alive is to give one away - to her broody boss Mrs. Lyons. It's only when the boys are firmly pulled apart that Mrs. Johnston truly realises what she's done, and regrets the choices she's made. As the years go by and Mrs. Johnston sees the boys brought together by fate and dragged away by Mrs. Lyons, Micky and Edward, the twins, form a firm friendship, with each other, and Linda, who Micky ends up marrying. But after a spell in prison, Micky is continually depressed, and pushes Linda to find it hard to stay and not play

Blood Brothers Evaluation Introduction The play we saw was Blood Brothers at the Phoenix Theatre in London. It was the 3pm viewing on the 5th November 2009. Act 1: The play begins with a deep red lighting on the stage. Two figures lie down on red stretchers, surrounded by police a grieving mother. Throughout the whole performance there is a narrator that plays a very strong part in the story. He explains the story making it clear to the audience what is happening. He is also a very eerie character that adds dramatic tension at many places in the show. He introduces us to Mrs Johnstone. Johnstone then sings "tell me it's not true". Following this a flash back is used to cast the setting back to the late 1950's and the story begins. Mrs Johnstone works as a cleaner for a rich woman called Mrs Lyons. Mrs Johnstone falls pregnant and explains to Mrs Lyons that she cannot afford to keep both of the baby boys she is carrying. Mrs Lyons suggests giving one of the babies to her. Mrs Johnstone then agrees and gives Mrs Lyons one of them. Mrs Johnstone's child is called Mickey and Mrs Lyons child is called Eddie. Mrs Johnstone continues to work for Mrs Lyons, but after a while Mrs Lyons considers Mrs Johnstone to be a threat and decides that she does no longer want her around. Mrs Lyons believes in superstition that twins separated at birth should never meet and if they do, they

I Combed My Hair and Glanced Back At My Brothers Whose Hands Were Meaninglessly Going Up In the Air.

I combed my hair and glanced back at my brothers whose hands were meaninglessly going up in the air. But then, by natural instinct, my hand started going up in the same timid way. We were waving at one of our friends out of the window, when a thought suddenly crept into my mind - why should we go? I had always thought of the dome as a pointless white tent, a waste of money and a tourist trap. That's why I had suggested to my brothers that the dome should be converted into a place of new inventions and technology. This idea was the one I wrote in the schools newsletter monthly competition although I knew that the idea would be dismissed by one of the teachers like they did with all my other ideas over the past months. My brothers thought that my idea was very rational though they preferred the original idea of the dome. I thought that was fair enough. I didn't want to visit the gigantic marquee just because my brothers did. Why should I continue to meet everybody's expectations and act as my brother's carbon copy? The three of us brothers spent everyday together sharing the same fair appearance, hobbies and friends. Everyone knew the three of us as either Kav, Harsh n' Bhav or Bhav, Harsh n' Kav. We very much liked the attention as we were knew to the country and got to meet many people and make new friends. My brothers usually seemed calm as they normally as they

Blood Brothers review

I went to see Blood Brothers, by Willy Russell on October 15th 2009 at the Manchester Opera House. The story is set in Liverpool in the 1960s and it centres on Mrs Johnston and her family. It tells a demoralizing tale of two twin brothers separated at birth that grew up in two different social classes and how their lives become unavoidably linked ending in them finally becoming reunited in death. It tells the agonising story of a mother's utter anguish of losing her child and shows us the impoverished life she led and her financial desperation which resulted in her striking a deal with an affluent, infertile women trading in a human life. The show is based around the superstition that "If either twin learns that he was once one of a pair, they shall both immediately die". The pressures of superstition, economics and class trap both brothers and seal their fate - their paths are destined to cross again in both friendship and anger with the most tragic consequences imaginable. Blood Brothers is a powerful and moving story, with both lively and sad parts. It's a wonderful tale that will capture your heart and leave a lasting impression. The show is both hilariously funny and deeply moving. I think that one of the most effective scenes was when Mickey came back home from prison and is going through the depression phase. In this scene the lighting is really dim, which reflects on

Analysis of 2 Texts : 'Eastenders' (Trevor and Mo) and 'Blood Wedding' by Lorca

Introduction In this project the two texts that I will be looking at are, the scene in "Eastenders" between Trevor and Mo. The second text that I will be looking at is "Blood Wedding" by Frederico Lorca. Eastenders This text is set in the current date. The scene between Trevor and Mo focuses on violent relationships between a wife and husband. The best thing about this scene is when you're watching you're on the edge of your seat because it's such an emotionally driven scene. This makes an interesting topic for drama because it is common issue, which people deal with in life. Blood Wedding This play is set in Spain during the Spanish civil war, in the 1930's. The section of the play that we looked at is about death and the nature of war and how people cope with the loss of loved one's. The story is very interesting and compelling to read. This makes an interesting topic for drama because there is war and devastation happening in the world today in places like Iraq Exploration Techniques Forum theatre Forum theatre is where a scene is enacted in a circle and any given time a member watching from the circle can stop it and either give an idea which can move the piece forward or can come into the piece and take on a character. When would I use it? You would use it to bring in new ideas on characters or scenes or use it to get round an issue. It can also

Blood Brothers Play Review Recently I have been to see 'Blood Brothers' the musical and I will be writing a review on my thoughts of the production. 'Blood Brothers' is about male twins that were separated at birth. One 'Eddie' was given away to Mrs Lyons to be adopted and the other was kept with its birth mother 'Mrs Johnston'. The boys grew up on different sides of the neighbourhood and soon encountered each other and became 'Blood Brothers'. Mrs Lyons did not want Eddie to find out that she was not his mother so she decided to move away and have a new beginning. Co-incidentally they moved to the same neighbourhood. They met again. Eddie went off to college and Mickey looked for a job. Mickey married his childhood sweetheart Linda and Linda them a house by asking Eddie. Mickey didn't like the fact that Eddie was providing for his family. Mickey began to get jealous and went after Eddie but he wasn't going to kill him, the police got the wrong impression. They were both killed. Staging I think that the staging of the play was very efficient because they only ever had to change the whole set once and this was during the intermission. The set was of the rough side of the neighbourhood and the houses were on the left, on the right hand side of the stage there were a few exits in the form of alleyways. I think that this was very effective because the set was used in many

In the past couple of drama lessons I have been studying and re-acting some of the scenes from the well known stage play blood brothers, written by Willy Russell - Response and development

In the past couple of drama lessons I have been studying and re-acting some of the scenes from the well known stage play blood brothers, written by Willy Russell. Myself and the rest of my class looked at all different aspects of the play, from the lighting and staging, right down to the themes and issues that Willy Russell wanted his audience to go away thinking about. In my first drama lesson focusing on Blood Brothers we initially began by looking at the different themes and issues of the text. The main issues were, class, poverty, separation and superstition. We started by having a class discussion about these, and airing our views and feelings towards the topics. After the class discussion we got into groups of around four to five people and looked at a preferred issue (mine was separation). From this we brainstormed the chosen issue and how it was linked with the play. We were then asked to create a still image from the text using different drama techniques showing this issue. Me and my group chose to do a freeze frame with me and a class mate acting out the twins being separated from birth, we did this by being pulled in difference directions hence showing the separation. We then held up a placard with a quote from the text saying "from birth they did depart", not just making the freeze frame more effective but also giving a better understanding about the still image.

My Childhood Memory.

My Childhood Memory It was a very lazy summer's day. The smell of a barbeque wafted through the air and the hypnotic drone of a lawnmower from somewhere in the distance was all that disturbed the peace. I was four years old and was in my back garden with my brothers, Jonathan and Matthew. Soon this serenity would turn very chaotic and wouldn't turn out to be the peaceful afternoon that my parents had hoped for. All of the family was out in the back garden as it was a beautiful day. My dad was doing some gardening, my mum was sunbathing and my brothers and I were kicking a football about. Jonathan, my elder brother, had all the footballing skills of a six year old, which was twice as much as my smaller brother, who could hardly stand, and I had put together. I was getting quite jealous of this so decided to try some skilful moves. These started out without any problems, by this I meant I was still in one piece. My dad was then about to start cutting the grass so my brothers and I had to move onto the small paved area beside the lawn. We continued to show off our (not so) silky skills there. After some careful consideration I decided I would try a trick that no one else had dared to. Soon I would know why. I was going to try to stand and balance on the football. This would have been an amazing feat for a four year old, if only I had done it. In my first couple of attempts, I

Theatrical Review of Willy Russell's Blood Brothers.

Theatrical Review By Geraint Williams Willy Russell's Blood Brothers has been performed regularly for nearly 15 years. It really is a faultless display. By the end you're left choking with emotion. The pace is relentless, at the interval; you're left itching to get back. I didn't know one person who left the theatre without being in tears, or close to it. I must say it is one of the best theatrical productions of all time. I went to the Phoenix theatre to see Blood Brothers with the drama group of Pen-Y-Dre High School on September 25th 2003. We had arranged to meet at the school by around 7:00 am for the bus would leave at 7:30. We arrived at London at midday, where we attended a prearranged workshop at the Covent Garden Theatre museum. Here we looked at theatrical devices used in Blood Brothers. I thought this helped me understand the main devices used in the play. I arrived at the cramped Phoenix Theatre in plenty of time for the matinee performance, around 2:00 pm. The theatre was painted in gold and red, rather Italian, and with typical Victorian touches, even though the theatre was built in the 1930s. There were nude paintings of women surrounding the top walls of the theatre. There was a great chandelier which created an idea of massiveness to the theatre which was in-fact smaller than I expected, and less grand, for it could have done with some refurbishment.

Blood Brothers, Review Of Play. A*

Blood Brothers, the Society of West End Theatres has awarded a play written by Willy Russell and directed by Bob Thomson 'The greatest musical of the decade.' After seeing Blood Brothers at the Phoenix Theatre, I must agree that it is one of the most streamlined performances I have seen in the past. The play Blood Brothers is set in Liverpool, which interestingly was also the birthplace of the writer Willy Russell who was born just outside Liverpool. In this essay, I will be writing about the effect of and use of dramatic tension in the play. I will also be reviewing the plays general strengths and weaknesses. I will attempt to streamline the review with a degree of professionalism and fairness. The play written by Willy Russell is set In Liverpool and revolves around Eddie and Mickey (Johnston) as they become separated by the actions of Mrs Lyons who bribes the real mother Mrs Johnston to hand over one of her twins for money and for beneficial reasons, claiming that she cannot support all her many children on her current income. She also proposes that the child would have a better life with her and her husband. The reminder of the play Blood Brothers shows the differences in lifestyle the two boys live, almost like the difference of Black and White. As the play goes on this opposite relationship is changed and the similarities of the two are made clearer. Blood Brothers
