The Iraq War-Just or Immoral?

The Iraq War - Just or Immoral? The war in Iraq has been going on for many years now, but has the situation improved? Was it right to go to war in the first place? And with the many lives lost, is it justified? In modern society this is a very controversial topic and with both sides of the debate having strong arguments. The Iraq War gets a lot of hype and media attention in the news today and therefore is a hotly debated topic. In this essay I will be exploring both sides of the argument and give points from both sides. Personally I think the War in Iraq is immoral, wrong and totally illegal. The cost of this war is not worth the end result. Sectarian violence is still rife in the country; as Sunnis and Shiites continue to slaughter one another and suicide bombers and car bombs kill hundreds a day. Is this the control America promised? I think not. One of the main reasons for the invasion of Iraq was to stop the dictator Saddam Hussein and find his weapons of mass destruction. But to this day no such weapons have been found, and many men, women and children have died, mainly innocent civilians in aid of this pointless and worthless search. However, some people would say that's its necessary to keep searching for these weapons to prevent terrorist attacks, are the lives of innocent people really worth sacrificing in the search for these weapons when they probably don't

What should the response to Swine Flu be?

The outbreak of swine flu us is no wonder a nightmare for human being. When the financial tsunami makes everyone tighten their belts, the flu pushes us into deeper panic. Sorrow spreads around the globe immediately after the first reported case in Mexico. The World Health Organization has immediately taken action to deal with this potential health risk. To prevent it from mass devastating, a lot of measures are taken. However, as today, travelling is an easy task; it is very easy to spread the disease. Within a week, the US has reported a few confirmed cases. In addition, more cases will be expected in other countries. To effectively stop the spreading, air travel should be terminated. It can keep the virus restricted in Mexico. However, this is not feasible. Termination of air travel means the termination of economical activities and political activities. The WHO has also emphasized that closing border is not recommended. The ultimate solution of this disaster is to develop effective medication. Closing border is merely a way to buy time. If talking about buying time, there are other methods. Those methods, though may not be as effective as closing border, they do not need to sacrifice the world's economy. Instead of closing border, countries should strengthen their supervision. They should check every tourist carefully. Stop every suspicious infected people from

Male Teachers Speech

Some information about male teachers Men have nearly always been superior, however, where teaching is concerned, women have always dominated the classroom. Since I started secondary school, so from year 7-year 9, I have had roughly 23 female teachers, but only 6 or 7 male teachers. Currently 1 out of 12 pupils go through their whole education without ever being taught by a man. Overall, the amount of male teachers is an all time low. Analysts believe male teachers are "fast becoming an endangered species." Men are more attracted to higher paid traditional jobs in large cities. Let me just tell you something shocking, well, it certainly shocked me, figures from September this year, indicate that there are only 56 male early years teachers! 56. As well as that, out of those 56, there is not ONE under twenty-five year old. The government is desperately trying to recruit more male teachers as research has shown they make a significant difference to the teaching of boys - AND girls. 800 boys and men were questioned about the impact of male teachers. A third of them revealed that having a male teacher as a role model at a younger age challenged them, and they were more approachable. Too many younger boys are being steered away from harder subjects because they fear they may fail. However, if they had a male model who would be there to talk to and advise them, they may find it

A day in the life of myself.

A day in the life of myself. I am awoken by the foul stench of my dog, which has just let-rip at the top of the stairs. There is no chance of falling asleep again, as the radio is blaring out music so loud that the floor vibrates! As I rise out of my bed, and find the dull looking school uniform, amongst other poor excuses for clothes within my wardrobe. I fail miserably as I walk to bathroom and wind up on my backside, obviously, still feeling the effects of last nights £60 bill in town, the taste of alcohol still present in my mouth, 'spitting feathers'? I most defiantly was! After my brief but essential visit, I sensibly evacuate my house at great speed, as some one has woken my dad up and he is not a happy bunny, I run to the bus stop, as I know it can't be long before the bus arrives and then I'd have to walk! Same old bus journey, same old faces, the chance to earwig on what other people did or didn't do at the weekend. Same school, same faces and the same run down to the ally for a quick cigarette before school starts, not just me, droves of students, all trying to get a last intake of lady nicotine, as well as to catch up on any missed gossip that my have happened at the weekend, before the long duration that is school. First lesson comes and goes, with little or no interruption, as well as no inspiration for the day ahead. If the day goes like this, I won't be

Should Abortion be banned?

Should abortion be banned? Abortion is the termination of a foetus when it is still in the womb, carried out before twenty four weeks of the pregnancy, although the majority of clinics will not accept patients after the eighteen to twenty week stage. It is currently legal in most parts of the world, and many believe it should stay legal. They believe that a woman should be in control, and should have the right to choose if she wants a baby or not. On the other hand, there are also many people who believe that abortion is wrong and that a woman should not have the right to kill another human being even if it is not yet born. The main methods of abortion are the abortion pill, a surgical termination or a medical termination. The pill is for pregnancies up to nine weeks old and involves taking two drugs forty eight hours apart; this tends to be the most painful way to abort a child. A surgical termination can be performed up to thirteen weeks and may be performed under local or general anesthetic. Most women will then leave hospital on the same day. From fourteen to nineteen weeks the technique is slightly different in that it is known as a surgical dilation and evacuation. A medical termination can be performed up to twenty four weeks (six months). This involves giving the patient a course of two different types of medicine. The first medicine is taken at the hospital

Is Television a Blessing or a Curse?

On April 7, 1927 the world was introduced to a new kind of entertainment, one that would change the world forever. This unaccustomed entertainment was known as television. Television is described by dictionary.com as telecommunication system for broadcasting and receiving moving pictures and sound over a distance. Though television has the potential to inform, educate and to entertain, it also has the competence to promote violence negative behaviors and expose children to inappropriate activity. Firstly television informs us about what is going on around the world. There are over twenty five news channels on cable television which broadcast local and worldwide news continuously. Additionally it has been proven by the center for promoting growth and achievement that 75% of children who do well in school started their education with television. Television programs such as sesame street and blues clues enhance children's intellectual development. These programs teach children their A B Cs, help them develop their social skills, and introduce them to foreign languages at a very early age. Adults can even receive education from television by tuning into the history or national geographic channels. Therefore we have the right to say that television has and still is contributing to the development of our future leaders. Furthermore, the British poet Alfred Tennyson once said,

F - Correctly Placed Thesis Statement Matt Phillips C - Good Supporting Paragraphs A - Good Conclusion Puritanism The country we live in, its ideals, its culture, and basically the whole of society is founded on the viewpoints of our country's original settlers, the Puritans. Their views on intolerance of things that are different from them are still very much followed by many. Just look at what happened right after September 11, 2001. There were many unpublicized murders of Islamic convenience store workers. The news didn't stay on this subject to question why it happened, and there were very few arrests made. This simply shows that we are a nation that likes to hate. Also in the mid eighties, the catholic church started to target roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons and Vampire: The Masquerade. These games dwelt in fantasy worlds, and the church started to take notice of how their children were being 'corrupted' by this thing that was misunderstood. This all shows how Puritan ideals have never really left us, and it's important to try to understand these enormous pillars of hate more clearly. First off, many sources of literature showcase the history of the Puritans. "Of Plymoth Plantation" is an account of the first times in Plymoth. "The Examination of Sarah Good" is an account of an actual witch trial. Both are very important steps in Puritan history.

Over Space Analysis

Transcription Analysis This transcription is over space, it is between two people at a music VIP party. They are roughly the same age, and although both from two different countries, both, in their own right, sound quite similar. Jonas, the Music artist behind "Basshunter", Is Swedish and is being interviewed by The interviewer who is Dutch. Both speak very good English. Their grammar and linguistic features are both shared when you compare the two together. Features of spontaneous spoken English are non-fluency features, such as pauses, repairs and repetitions, Interruptions, False Starts, Topic change, Adjacency Pairs and turn taking. Examples of a few of these features are featured below in an extract of my transcript. "Jonas: But actually, the erm, Dutch, Dutch and Swedish it's kinda similar in some forms. I was watching (.) Dutch TV in the hotel room and I was like, I was watching the subtitles // , and I was like, okay // Interviewer: // yea // And you recognised // Some of the words" In the above extract many features of non-fluency features are shown, mainly because of the minor language barrier, and both speakers not speaking in their home language. Such non-fluency features are pauses, repetitions, topic change, repairing, and turn taking." I was watching (.) Dutch TV" indicates a one second pause, this is most probably due to the fact that
