Has Scientific Technology and Developments Gone Too Far

Has Scientific Technology and Developments Gone Too Far For a question like this, everyone would have a different opinion. Personally, I think that new scientific achievements have been a great step forward for man, however, even though now everyone is excited about things like cloning humans and being able to teleport, there would still be a risk that it may all go too far and turn from a good idea for helping people into something that could change the world into a bad place if the technology got into the wrong hands. One of the main scientific breakthroughs over the last few years has been the ability to clone animals. Only a short time ago, scientists were able to clone a rat that had been dead for thousands of years. This all sounds good and first expressions are that the world would be free of hunger and endangered species wouldn't have to die out. However, if scientists want to bring back animals that have already been extinct for a long time such as dinosaurs, we could be in danger. In my opinion, dinosaurs died out for a reason, and that reason was so that man could evolve. If you think about it, humans wouldn't have existed if these prehistoric animals were around and bringing them back from the dead would need serious thinking. As a scientific experiment to see if it could be done and to learn more about dinosaurs, I don't think that it would be a big deal to

Are Movie Stars' Weddings Too Extravagant?

2009 UE Section B Q.2 Dear Editor, Noticing the trickles of extravagant weddings sta+ged by movie stars in recent years, I cannot help suspiring how millions of dollars could have been better spent instead of being squandered on events that could have been just as beautiful and memorable if the budget was cut half. I am therefore writing this letter to express my serious concern over the despicable behaviour of these public figures who clearly have little idea of what it really takes to have an unforgettable wedding. It is not exactly inconceivable why movie stars tend to spend profusely - that they wish to garner media attention and show off their wealth and affluence to the world. But as often as we learn of star wedding news, equally frequently are we aware that they divorce a few years - or more outrageously a few months - after marriage. I have to say I am surprised at how marriage could be as disrespected as such. I am doubly surprised at how forgetful these people are, obviously having no memory of their vows and commitments on their lavish wedding day. It is henceforth a headache think of marriage being treated as a ridiculous game. With this in mind - that marriage is now nothing more than an empty concept that lacks respect and dignity - one comes to the conclusion that it is simply pointless in holding wedding parties at exorbitant prices. Name any loving

Do Stop and Searches Breach Our Privacy?

"Do Stop and Searches Breach our Privacy?" By Luke Warner Since it was first introduced, the 'stop and search' method of countering crime has sparked a fierce debate as to whether these searches are morally right. Happening almost daily, the practice continues to be very controversial, with many claiming that 'stop and searches' breach our right to privacy. In the next couple of paragraphs, I shall attempt to answer the question "do stop and searches breach our privacy?" and learn a little more about the controversial topic. Depending on where in the UK one lives, one is likely to be stopped and searched at least once in their life by a police officer - it has become an inevitable fact. When told by an officer that they are going to be searched in public, a person is given a number of key rights and responsibilities. Both the former and the latter are obvious: the right to be told the officer's name and police station, the right to receive a 'receipt' from the officer about the search, the right to not be strip searched in public, and the right to be searched by an officer of the same sex, as well as the responsibility to comply with the police, to not resist or abuse the officers, to take off all garments when asked to (only up to a jacket; never trousers or a shirt), and the responsibility to tell them your name and address. This fairly ordinary occurrence happens all

Letter to Local Council about the closure of Wallasey School.

554 Potter Road Hermione Hogwarts Mummerset MZ46 2OK Miss Angela Eagle Town Hall Wirral CH46 1FT 1/9/09 Dear Miss Eagle, I have been informed of your resent discussion about the closure of Wallasey School and the intention of replacing it with a Supermarket! I was quite disappointed to hear of such rumours, so the following is my pledge for you to reconsider your current decision. May I start by addressing the pupils (and myself) opinion on the decision of closing down Wallasey School? Many of the pupils are hear-broken to hear such things. This school is the heart of the community. Would you ever class a Supermarket as the "heart of the community"? The closure of Wallasey School could bring along a string of violence and aggression from the community. Many pupils see this school as a meeting place to socialize with friends and other pupils. With this social meeting, many children would be without their friends and without their education. How would you feel if your friends were taken away from you? I do understand that during the financial difficulties the community is going through at this time that a Supermarket would increase the profit and would also increase population that would come into the area due to the build of a Supermarket, but I must enlighten you to your grave mistake. You are aiming this Supermarket at the pupils of Wallasey's parents, not the

English discursive writing Should celebritys private lives be made public by magazine and newspaper? Should secondary school students go out to work during the school holidays?

English discursive writing Should celebrity's private lives be made public by magazine and newspaper? Pros: * Gossip magazines profit by revealing news which may attract more people to buy them. * Celebrities, too, make additional profits as a result of the media's interest. Since both newspapers and magazines are common reading materials, hence a large number of readers may come to know about this piece of news. As such, celebrities can make use of this chance to win popularity and become famous. Articles or reports about them may also attract more to buy DVDs or tickets from these celebrities. Cons: * Celebrities may be affected by the paparazzi after having their private lives being revealed to public. These paparazzi who constantly disturb them while working or even, after working hours may cause celebrities to feel stressed out after an exhausting day of work. Furthermore, they may affect the celebrities' performance during work if they were to make a huge commotion and to surround the celebrity with flashing cameras. It may not be just disturbing for the artist, but also annoying for their family and friends whom are likely to be affected as well. * Moreover, some celebrities may not want their private lives to be revealed and let known to the public. Hence this may result in a lot of frustrations in them. For example, when a particular celebrity is getting

Creationism vs. Evolution, my reading and views.

Creationism vs. Evolution Since high school, I have been on something of an intellectual and spiritual journey from what I was told to believe to what I believe for myself. It wasn't until recently that I have finally started to become comfortable with what I do and do not accept as the truth regarding the origins of our existence here on this planet. I grew up in a diverse Christian home: my mother's side are devout Roman Catholics and my Father's Lutheran. I was raised Catholic and we went to mass religiously (no pun intended) every Sunday and my mom said my Hail Mary's with me every night before bed. The existence of God and His role in our lives was not even a question. From there, I went to a Christian pre-school, a Catholic kindergarten and grade school, and then a privet Catholic all-girls academy. In High School, evolution was barely talked about unless you were taking a class specifically related to it (or maybe it was but I tended to fall into a coma during science related lectures) and in primary school, it wasn't talked about at all. My father is what my mother likes to call a "holy roller": he is a starch Fundamentalist Christian and a Young-Earth Creationist who believes that the bible is fact and not to be interpreted in any way other than literally. I can remember him talking about the evils of evolution and how it was impossible for monkeys to still exist

Why fashion is important.

Some, of us were born loving fashion and some just weren't. Whether you love it or hate it your personal style and fashion is very important to whom you are as a person. Why? Because it reflects you as an individual; beside when you look good, you feel good! Fashion can transform your personality I mean isn't it amazing how clothes can make a person? Have you, ever heard the phrase "you are what you wear"? YES! Yes because more than 20%of us hare this phrase on a day to day bias. Our clothes tell us who we are in a society and tell others about our personalities, our wants, needs, talents, dispositions and destination. It has been said by Mrs. Rosie Montage, professor of social psychology that 98% of what we say does not come from our mouth. If so then clothing is a very silent but tremendously powerful communicator. It can camouflage or cover up; it can build or destroy an image, it can say "I am as good as you", "I have the same interest", "I am important", "I am not important" or even "I take myself and work too seriously! But by judging someone based on their appearance makes them feel inferior. Why? Because you are assuming that you know them better than they know themselves; that's just deceitful as every single human sees the world through different eyes! Never the less appearance is all so essential as it is the only visible clue to individuals, individuality, which

They attempted to execute me just because I was unequivelent to them. My feelings are hurt, they aren't adequate words in this world to portray my feelings. I was innocent, my only felony was being born an alien . Surviving that harrowing assault was simply impossible. I have mixed emotions about surviving the attack, I'm ecstatic to get out alive, but a part of me wishes I just perished in that attack in order to exit my long-term melancholy. Not knowing where I was, was an idea that petrified me. Observing my other friends getting murdered was an indescribable horror. I am now left solitary in this abnormal world, This whole incident has been appalling, I never thought in a million years that I'd have to face such a tough ordeal. Thank god the humans living in this house don't know where I am, or else I would've been brutally slaughtered too. Those humans are callous , any random creature they see, they will jump to the conclusion that this creature is detrimental also must be eliminated from this planet. My feelings for the humans is filled with vexation, they literally took my

Does Knowing Public Figures Private Lives Matter?

Does Knowing Public Figures' Private Lives Matter? The last time I saw a program about celebrity was about the Britney Spears case. She shaved her head. Seriously when I saw that on TV I was wondering "Who can possibly cares about what she is doing with her hair?" I am going to expose why people cares about celebrities life. Then I will show with some example that people identify themselves to celebrities. Also I will talk about people who are bored and do not have nothing much to do that watching celebrities. To finish I will deal with how people are stupid to watch or read about celebrities life. First of all, in our society parents are children's models. It is a basic knowledge in sociology. Indeed children create their own personalities with parents' behaviors. Later most of those children will identify themselves to some celebrities and this is why people care about them. The new society model is based on people they seen on TV or magazines. People are also attracted by the creepiest and worse event, which happen in there favorite celebrities. People are asking for those news and celebrities give it to them. This preview point lead me to an other one which is how people can have enough time to devote to celebrities life. In fact people who are interested in celebrities life would like to be like them, it is what we seen above. People dream about a rich, passionate and
