Scrooge keeps the readers interested because you can’t tell what he is going to do next that’s why he keeps the readers interested; because they would want to read more to find out what he going to do next. People read stories because back in them day’s when Charles Dickens wrote this book there were no TV’s or radios. Because they weren’t invented back then. So it was entertainment for the readers.
Charles Dickens wrote a Christmas Carolyn 1843 because he was telling the readers how the poorest people lived and he wanted to make people aware of this. Charles Dickens was going to write pamphlet but he decide that more people would read about the poor if he included them in the society in which Dickens lived.
A Christmas carol was written by Charles Dickens because he wanted people to know how some people where greedy like scrooge.
I think Dickens choose Scrooge as the main character because he was a made up character that Charles Dickens made up to tell the readers that this was what he did not like about people.
Scrooge is an interesting character and therefore readers would like to read the book because he makes the story interesting.
The readers may dislike Scrooge because he comes across as mean and grumpy old man. The author writes about Scrooges character says “No warmth could warm, nor wintry weather chill him. No wind that blew was bitterer than he; no falling snow was more intent upon its purpose, no pelting rain less open to entreaty.
Scrooge may capture the readers sympathy because nobody could be that mean unless something happened in the past.
Scrooge’s physical features were like the “cold within him froze his old features, nipped his pointed nose, shrivelled his cheek, stiffened his gait made his eyes red, his grating voice. A frosty rime was on his head, and on his eyebrows, and his wiry chin”.
None of the local people appeared to like scrooge. “Nobody ever stopped him in the street”. He would not give money to the charity collectors and was very rude to them. Scrooge says “are there no prisons? And workhouses? ...... if they would rather die they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population”. Fred Scrooges nephew feel sorry for him. Fred invites his uncle Scrooge to Christmas dinner every year. Scrooge always refused and can’t under stand why people who are poor have any thing to celebrate. Scrooge says “Bah! Humbug! What reason have you to be merry? You’re poor enough”.
