So as you can see he offers to be many things but he doesn’t ask for anything in return-this suggests real love because he isn’t giving to get-he doesn’t demand anything from her, he just asks for her to return his love-he even says in line 7 “you call the shots” even after all his offers there is no response from the female this poem is aimed at. I think the male in this poem is in another relationship because he refers to another female in the poem “I don’t wanna be hers” he then follows that by saying “I wanna be yours”.
The social, cultural and historical positions in this poem are:
The social position in this poem is the fact that the man is chasing the woman not the woman chasing the man this interlinks with the historical position of the poem although we don’t know when it was written. The cultural position in this poem is the fact that the man can pursue another woman whilst in another relationship,
The language in this poem has lots of imagery.
“Let me be your vacuum cleaner”-this suggests a man vacuuming and this isn’t a regular thing for men to do.
“Let me be your coffee pot,” suggests he will make coffee for her.
So as you can see from the above quotes he doesn’t offer romantic gifts and presents-such as chocolates, cards or flowers etc. he offers things like warmth e.g. heater and coffee pot, he offers her protection e.g. raincoat-protection from the rain and he also offers her comfort e.g. teddy bear.
The style of this poem is the following the poem has no capital letters.
For e.g. “let me be your vacuum cleaner” when it should be “Let me be your vacuum cleaner”
This poem has no form of punctuation: it has no full stops, colons, semicolons, and commas, question marks etc
For e.g. Let me be your raincoat
For those frequent rainy days
Let me be your dreamboat
When you wanna sail away
When it should be: Let me be your raincoat,
For those frequent rainy days.
Let me be your dream boat,
When you wanna sail away.
The poem has 3 stanzas/verses beginning with “let me” and ending with “I wanna be yours”.
This poem has no rhyming couplets but it does contain rhyming words such as dreamboat and raincoat.
The message of this poem is that there are some men who will do any thing for you, love you and treat you right.
I like this poem because it is sweet and romantic and I like the way the man describes himself as things she wants/needs.
