Many of you must have opted for universities out of your town and city and so it’s important you are acquainted with the new location. Read about it, visit your campus or city before you move in and check on the services. I know it seems daunting to leave your friends, family and the familiar place but in the age social media it’s so much easier to interact and face-time that one doesn’t feel that one is miles apart.
It will be helpful if you try getting to know those studying at your university through sites such as StudentRoom which provide a forum for freshman like you. It will facilitate you in being at ease as you embrace the new beginning.
Don’t Squander Away
At uni, you will be entrusted with responsibility of managing your finance for the first time in life. You need to ensure you have enough money for rent, food, books and travel before you are even tempted to squander it away partying or shopping the latest fashion trends. Keep a track of everything you spend so you don’t run out of money when an emergency arises.
Get involved
Along with academics sign up for various extra-curricular activities, join clubs and do attend late night parties. Juggling all of this requires a detailed planner so that you don’t have to miss the party next room because you have a submission to hand in next day.
Food Frenzy?
Let’s face it, after being free to choose your diet all that you are going to binge on is the filthy junk. I know you must have heard it scores of times but fact is that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. We all know students need their brain power and so feeding the brain rightly is of utmost importance. Learn to cook your favourite and nutritious meals rather than living on high-calorie junk that is going to chow down your budget.
Keep in touch
No matter how busy you may be just call up your parents for once asking about their lives and not for money. When in the dead of the night you feel homesick, just text your parents and share your feelings. They are as worried as you but would rather wait for you to initiate the interaction as they want to give you room to breathe. Acknowledge the fact and give them surprise visits during weekends.
Good luck, peeps! And enjoy!
