Many levels of morality can be found in society.  William Shakespeare is a known good judge of character, in the play Macbeth Shakespeare writes characters into three main types of morality: moral, immoral and amoral.

To begin, possibly the largest type of morality shown was moral.  Most of the characters exemplify morals at one time in the play.  Duncan, who was the king, always wanted best for his people.  Sometimes he did not make the best decision but always aimed to make the right one.  An example of this is when he gave the title of Prince of Cumberland to Malcolm.  Banquo was a good man.  He showed this in how he treated his son.  Another good point is that he did not indulge in the witches’ predictions.  Macduff showed himself to be very gentlemanly-like also.  He was devastated at the death of his family and naturally wanted revenge.  He believed Macbeth should die by his sword, as spoken by Macduff, “My voice is in my sword, thou bloodier villain”

(V, vii, ll 36-37).  Macduff is justified in killing Macbeth.  Malcolm shows what type of person he is by realizing the great injustices under the reign of Macbeth and then leading the revolt against him.  Although the character Macbeth was mostly immoral and amoral, he did have morals at the beginning of the novel.  He was a great warrior who was liked by most everyone.  Everyone thought highly of him.  Duncan thought so highly of him that he gave him the title Thane of Cawdor.  Finally, of all three types of moralities, characters having morals were most dominant.
