Introduction

1 Mr. Wong ENG4U1 - 5A October 13, 2021 Rising From the Ashes like a Phoenix [a][b][c] Everyone[d][e][f] wishes to have a constant in their life. Someone who will always be with them at the end of the day, someone who will stick by their side through the toughest times, even if everyone leaves. Constants can come in the form of a friend, a best friend, a husband, wife, pet, boyfriend or girlfriend. My constant came in the form of a boyfriend, stayed with me for three years and then left me to pick myself up piece by piece. He entered my life the way a baby enters the world. Full of hope, happiness, and affection. In a room full of people only his face would be the one standing out. I would just be staring at his deep brown eyes that were like the leaves on autumn trees mesmerizing me every time I stared into them. His hair would remind me of cotton candy, so fluffy and soft that I couldn’t stop my hand from reaching out and touching it. His voice was better than any song out there, I could listen to it on repeat. And his smile… his smile would be something I could spot a mile away, it was so contagious it brought out mine.[g][h][i] Our friends often described us as the playful couple. ...read more.

There’s always more than what meets the eye. On my birthday, December 13, 2020, he had planned a surprise birthday party. He outdid himself and exceeded my expectations. He’d surprised me with pink and white balloons, along with pink and white cake pops and pink and white cakesicles. He had rented an Airbnb with the help of his friends and decorated the place with streamers and balloons just for me. As I walked into the room I heard a loud POP. “SURPRISE!” Waves of colour jumped out at me making me take a step back. Confetti was all over my shirt and h[j][k][l]ead. Pink, blue, yellow and purple colours blinded my view, but when I brushed the colourful pieces of paper out of my eyes and saw what he had done for me, my jaw dropped. I felt like a princess. I felt like I was on top of the world. Here was this person who was giving me everything, making me feel a type of special I had never felt before. When all my friends and his friends left, it was just him and I together on the living room couch. “How’d you like your birthday?” He asked. “I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!” I exclaimed. “How are you going to make it up to me?” He asked, and then proceeded to try and kiss me. ...read more.

Conclusion

I owed him plenty of thanks for helping me rediscover my newfound confidence, and loving my smile or what my friends like to call a “gummy smile”. Though I still loathe him for giving me body dysmorphia, leaving me with a truck full of trust issues and fractured mental health. I'm still on the path of healing and getting comfortable living without a constant or who I thought was my constant. The hardest thing was realizing that three years in a relationship is not a waste of time at all. The people we meet, the ones we love are all part of this story. From the hall monitors to mutual friends to best friends and even family. They’re all part of my story. Although it didn’t always work out, for a brief moment, it did and it brought me so much happiness. Even the bad moments had their own lessons to teach and after everything, I’m simply a phoenix rising from the ashes.
