My Favourite Place
D
ungiven Castle:-
A beautiful 18th century castle built in the wilds of Fermanagh. I discovered it on a trip to Derry/L'Derry.
I stopped to get a bite to eat in Dungiven and on taking a walk along the street I saw the castle gates. I then found out that the castle was open to the public.
It is fronted by a car park - the rear is another story. There are magnificent formal gardens surrounding a fountain at the castle. I Watched beautifully maintained shrubs and plants all manner of butterflies, birds, and small wild life around undisturbed. Walking on through the gardens is the horse stables, where for a few pounds you can hire a horse and go for a gentle trot or if you are an experienced rider go for a race even jumping. People were enjoying the adventures of hand gliding, soaring about the beautiful late afternoon summer sky- they looked like they had not a care in the world. My friends and I booked in and were given well appointed en-suite rooms; these were in the castle overlooking the gardens.
