Her mother encourages Lydia’s love for Wick ham. As her mother feels that marriage is important. Lydia has obviously followed her mother’s views. She is encouraged by her mother and is therefore not responsible for her actions as she feels her actions are for the best.
Lyida shouldn't be blamed for her actions as she has been brought up by her parents to belive that this sort of behaviour is acceptable. Her mother is very fond of Lydia and shares the same views. Her mother believes that a womans main objective in life is to get married, and now Lyida believes the same and has therefor married Wickham just so she is married.
Lydia has already been advised by her family not to go to Brighton. Lydia chooses not to take her family’s advice and therefore is responsible for her own actions. She should have respected her families wishes.
Family reputation was very important and a member of a disgraced family will find it very hard to marry. Her actions would affect her sisters if they wanted to marry. Her actions were thoughtless towards her sisters. Lydia throughout the book, for her actions has brought embarrassment and shame to her family. This is evident as when Lydia elopes with Wickham, Elizabeths chances of marrying Darcy are ruined. Lydia does not care that her actions affect her family in these ways, but only cares for herself.
Lydia as she is the youngest daughter was introduced to society and men at a very early age.
“Although I am the youngest, I am also the tallest.”
Lydia feels at an early age that she is superior to her sisters. Her parents should have told her otherwise, but the lack of parental guidance leads her to believe this way. Lydia is therefore not responsible for her untamed and wild character.
Wickham has attracted many women, Mary King, Georgiana and Lydia’s sister Elizabeth. Although Elizabeth was aware of Wickhams true character Lydia was unaware and was truly in love with Wickham. If she was aware of Wickham’s character then she would not have eloped. She isn’t responsible for her actions because she was uninformed of his character.
Lydia doesn't actually mean any harm, she is genuinely in love with Wickham, and goes away with him because she thinks they are going to get married. Wickham takes advantage of her naivety, exploiting her and then intending to get rid of her when he gets bored, runs out of money, and needs to find himself a rich wife.
Mr. Wickham comes to Meryton as an officer and at first his good looks and pleasant manner enchant all. However, it is soon known that he is a liar and in debt, and when he runs off with Lydia, he must be paid to marry her.
When Elizabeth and Mrs. Gardiner arrive back at the hotel, there are two letters from Jane, one that had been missent earlier. The Gardiner's go for a walk and leave Elizabeth to enjoy the news from her sister. The first letter brings bad news about Lydia. Colonel Forster had informed the family that his wife had a note from Lydia saying she had run off with Wickham to Scotland to get married. Elizabeth immediately reads the second letter, which states that there is now reason to believe that they have not gone to Scotland to get married, and that Wickham may not plan on marrying Lydia at all. The entire family is in turmoil, and Colonel Forster is trying to locate the couple. Mr. Bennet is going to London, and Jane asks Elizabeth to come home right away.
Lydia is the youngest Bennet daughter, and she is described as silly and untamed. Lydia is unaware of the consequences that are produced by her careless actions throught the book. Lydia's actions usually result in stress and embarrassment for the family. Is Lydia really responsible for her actions?
Lyidias character ressembles her mothers. She's loud, confident and often silly. Her mothers relationship with her father is evidently a diaster. It is evident that Lydias relationship with Wickham as we are shown that her mothers realtionship with her father didn't work. We are also told that Mr and Mrs Bennetts was firstly based on physical attraction. This ressembles Lydias and Wickhams relationship which will evidnetly lead to disaster.
This shows that Lydia is not to be blamed for her actions as it is due to her character and her mothers influence, both of which Lydia is not responsible for.
