Tsotsi discovers that he has changed since he finding the baby. At the beginning he is very bad because he doesn’t have anything to look forward to and also he doesn’t t have any one to look after him. When he finds the baby, however, he is very close to him; he doesn’t want to let it go. He sees the baby as his own child. Tsotsi played by Presley cheweneyagae. Is best known for starring in the film “Tsotsi”, I think Presley is a very good actor because I believe that Tsotsi’s character is believable. The way he acts is very convincing. His character is very bad, he acts as a gangster but from inside he is really nice person, we see this when he meets the baby and helps his friend get a job.
Miriam played by Terry pheto, a young mother who has lost her husband to violent crime and had to look after a baby on her own because her husband is dead. Terry pheto is an excellent actress because she makes the film interesting and she is really good at acting her part because she makes her character look real and she uses facial expression when it is a serious moment e.g. when Tsotsi follows her home and she becomes frightened, you can see this by her face. John Dube played by is a successful corporate executive married to Pumla. He is the father of the baby stolen by Tsotsi. Rapulana is really good actor, his acting is believable especially it makes me believe that he is really John and he sometimes he uses worried and sad expression in some scene to make his character look real.
The first key moment in the film that I choose is when he steals the car from the rich people and shoots the baby’s mother and takes the car but doesn’t know there is a baby there. I thought that was the best scene because it shows how Tsotsi felt when he realizes there is a baby in the car and that scene has a lot of facial expression and it makes the scene really interesting because it makes you wonder if he is going to take the baby with him or give it back to the parents. The second key moment in the film that I choose is when the Tsotsi gives the baby to its parents and gets arrested. I thought that scene was really emotional meaning Tsotsi doesn’t really want to give the baby back to the mother. He is very close to it, that made him name the baby David, his first name because he doesn’t know what the baby’s name was so he named it David, he had to name it because the women asked him what the baby’s name was so he decided to call him David. The third key moment is when Tsotsi tells the women to breast feed the baby this is very good scene because the women at first shows she is was very frightened and she doesn’t know what Tsotsi is going to do to her, then she realize that Tsotsi has a baby with him and that he wants her to feed the baby. This scene is very emotional and the initial fear of the women makes the scene really good.
The sound track is really important because it goes with the scene and it makes the scene look real. Some of the music that were played were very sad but it was very effective because it shows how the character is feeling and it makes the scene good. Others songs that are played are very dramatic and it makes the viewers empathises with the character. Some scene, have music that goes with scene e.g. when they in the train and everyone is quiet. The train noises are in the background so the scene is more powerful and this makes it more interesting.
The subtitles do affect my viewing because you have to read from screen and you don’t get to watch the film because you have to read what the people are saying if you want to know what the characters are saying. But this does affect people because some would want to watch the film rather reading it from screen. I think they shouldn’t use subtitles because people don’t like reading, they would prefer to watch the film and listening to what the people are trying to say also people that don’t understand it more attention is paid to facial expression.
I didn’t really expect it to end like it did and I thought it would end differently e.g. Tsotsi giving the baby to the parents and then getting arrested. When the film finished I thought it was really good because the way it ended was very emotional and sad Tsotsi has to give the baby to the parents and he finds it really hard to give the baby back as he has become very close to the baby and that makes the ending end good.
I think the film is trying to tell us that people shouldn’t act badly just because they do not have any family. They show this by showing this group of gangsters who do not have any family and they live in a township (a slum). The film is trying to tell us about the life of poor people and the way they live, they would do anything to get money e.g. stealing from someone that is rich, breaking people’s homes etc. also the film is trying to tell people that if they did something bad in the past, they can change and become better than before. They show this by showing this boy called Tsotsi who was bad at first and then changes to someone who is good.
