"I've got two couples booked but they haven't arrived yet but they shouldn't disturb you, they’re staying on the first floor. This, here is one of your rooms, and the other one is there." She said, pointing to the room next door. She took the key out of the door after having unlocked it but didn't open the door.
"Where's the key to that room?" Kerry asked turning the locked door handle.
"They both share the same key."
"Do all of the rooms share one key then?" Rianne asked, confused.
"No, just these two room, I imagine you young girls won't want to stray too far away from each other anyway."
"Why is that?" Amy asked hastily.
"You are the curious one, aren't you? Again, no real reason!" Rose said staring at Amy. She placed the key in Lisa's hand and walked away before they had a chance to open the door.
"Hmm, what a welcome!"
"What do you expect? She looks about 80, I wonder if she's running this place by herself?" Rianne asked unlocking the second room, number 13. She was just about to turn to the others when she opened the door and glanced around at the dusty, plain, Victorian looking room. There was a wooden four-poster bed in the middle of the room and the floor was cold and wooden.
"Good job I brought my slippers!" Kerry laughed as she saw the room.
There was a wardrobe in the corner of the room and a small window looking out into the garden. A full length, pine, engraved mirror stood in the corner of the room as if making a statement. However, the thing that drew their attention the most was what appeared to be a plain, wooden cot, which was situated under the window. There was a cabinet next to the bed and there was a picture of a lake surrounded by green land, which was covered with people sitting at small tables randomly placed around the lake. There was a small church in the distance.
"Wow, talk about basic!" Rianne exclaimed. "It looks as though it hasn't been decorated since the 18th century!" They all looked at each other and then all made a mad dash to the next room to see if it was any better. To their surprise it was! It had a four-poster bed almost identical to the one next door yet there were more pictures and two large rugs on the wooden floor.
"It looks like you're having the other room Kerry, seeing as you were so excited about bringing your slippers!" Lisa teased her. There were two wardrobes and a large pine dressing table with an engraved mirror and a small stool. Overall this room had a much warmer atmosphere than the other room. It had pictures of flowers on the wall and the window was larger than the small one in the room next door.
"Sorry girls, but I'm having this room, I said it first! Who wants to share?" Lisa said.
"Me, me, me!" Rianne jumped at the chance, there was no way she was staying in the creepy room next door! It looked like Amy and Kerry were stuck with the not so welcoming room. The girls made their way back down the wooden stairs to the car to get out their luggage, which they'd spent many hours packing.
"What are we going to do about eating tonight girls, because I don't know about you, but I'm starving!" Amy said with her stomach rumbling.
"Once we've got our stuff unpacked we'll go out for a bite to eat, I don't really fancy eating here." Rianne told them. "But somebody else will have to drive!"
"Well girls, it depends what sort of place you're looking for." Rose told Amy and Rianne when they asked her where they could go to eat. "There are a few places in the village where you could eat but I'm cooking a nice lamb stew tonight so you're very welcome to stop here and get used to the house."
"Ur, thanks but we wanted to explore!" Amy lied before returning to their rooms where Lisa and Kerry were looking out of the small window in room 13.
"Hey, guys, look at this view!" Lisa said when she saw them enter the room. They joined the other girls at the window and saw a calm lake surrounded by dead green land, with a church in the distance.
"That's the one in that picture." Rianne pointed out.
"Creepy!" Kerry exclaimed as they all turned to look at the picture on the wall and then back out of the window.
After much discussion the girls decided that they would spend the evening at the house, the lamb hot pot seemed to appeal to them after a day of driving. Besides, it was early evening and none of them wanted to drive along the narrow roads in the dark before they knew where they were going. As they were getting ready for dinner, Rianne noticed a small door set into the wall of room 13. It was narrow and worn out with slight scratches embedded in the dark wood surface as if cats had been at it.
"Wow, a secret passage!" She exclaimed, trying to pull the door open.
"Is it locked?" The others looked on curiously as Rianne and Lisa pulled at the door, which refused to budge.
"Forget it, my tummy's growling at me, I think if I go without food for much longer my stomachs going to cave in! Ask Rose about it later!"
However Rose could only tell them that it led to an old wooden balcony but she'd never been able to open it, in the fifty years she'd lived there.
"I don't go up there much, you probably know the room better than I do by now, it's not worth worrying about. Come on, tuck in." Rose dished out a large spoonful of diluted stew with small lumps of lamb floating on top.
"Yum, yum, this beats fish and chips any day!" The others looked at Amy and hoped that Rose wasn't aware of her sarcasm as they were!
"Are the other guests eating out or are they joining us later?" Lisa asked Rose who was crunching on her second bowl of stew.
"No, they haven't yet arrived, one couple phoned and cancelled but its nothing unordinary!"
"Do you often get a lot of guests?" Kerry asked her.
"Well, I get a lot of cancellations if that's what you mean. The only rooms I let out are your rooms and number 5 and 7. The others are never used!" There was a slight draft and Rianne glanced at Rose who saw the girls shiver. "There may be a small draft in your room, especially room 13 but I haven't had a chance to revamp it yet so there may be some wind which comes in from the window and between the walls. Well, I'm glad you're all finished. I'm off to bed! If I was you I'd make your way up now because I'm turning the lights out on my way up." Rose told them taking their half empty plates from them.
Amy looked at the others before scattering down the corridor and up the stairs to their rooms.
"Woah, did you taste those crunchy bits in that stew?"
"I know, I didn't want to ask what they were!"
"I was actually enjoying that stew, it beats my mum's cooking!"
"I can't believe she's lived here fifty years and she hasn't decorated yet."
"Hurry up and open the door, Kez, I see what she means about a draft! Let's all sit in here for a while, I don't fancy going to bed yet."
"Me neither, my stomach needs to recover!"
"Talk about stingy, she gave us like one spoonful but I can't complain, if I'd have eaten anymore I think..........." Kerry stopped in mid sentence. Her eyes scanned the room and she froze and went silent before Amy, still giggling, came into the room after her. Rianne and Lisa followed and all four girls went deadly silent.
The stiff, wooden door that they had struggled with earlier was slightly ajar and the window was blown open by the strong howling wind.
"I'm not being funny girls," Kerry said, "but I really don't feel at ease in here!"
"Don't be stupid, Kez, the wind probably blew it open, at least we can explore this hidden balcony!" Amy said, not showing any fear.
"Think about it Amy, she said herself that this door hasn't been opened for fifty years and we struggled with it before. The wind couldn't be strong enough to blow it open, but it's strange how we were talking about it and now it's as if someone's heard us and opened it." Kerry explained.
"Perhaps it was Rose!"
"How can it be? We were with her all the time and we came up here before her! Explain that!"
Rianne knew that they were all scared and so bravely broke the ice by slowly walking out onto the narrow, decaying balcony.
"I wouldn't come out here together if I were you, it might give way!" She said, coming back into the room. They decided to forget it and carried on trying to enjoy what they thought would be a relaxing holiday!
"Can we pack this away and go to bed now, Kez? I'm shattered!" Amy pleaded once the others had gone back into the room and they were sitting in bed playing scrabble.
"Only if we say I won!" Kerry laughed packing up the pieces. Amy sighed and buried herself in the king-size duvet. All she wanted to do was sleep, the girls were worried about the mysterious door being unlocked but she reassured them that there was sure to be a perfectly reasonable explanation. She waited for Kerry to turn out the light and then rolled onto her back, ready for a nice long sleep before they set off to explore the village the next morning. As the girls slept the night air turned colder and the draft blowing through the room got stronger. In the room next door Rianne and Lisa were asleep and had been for over an hour. Their clothes were unpacked and they had put all their things around the room. Amy and Kerry, on the other hand, had chucked their clothes in the wardrobe and much to Amy's refusal played a game of scrabble. Now, the house was deadly silent apart from the odd creak on the stairs. Kerry's breathing evened out as she drifted into a deep sleep, Amy, was restless and tossed and turned until she finally fell asleep an hour or so later.
Amy sat bolt upright in bed and strained her ears to see if she had heard correctly. Her eyes were open yet her mind was asleep and being a regular sleepwalker she calmly slipped on her slippers and made her way across the floor to the cot, as if in a trance. She had heard rightly! The small baby was lying in the cot wrapped in a soft linen blanket, crying uncontrollably.
"Shh, don't cry, baby." She said, leaning over the cot, she wanted to pick the baby up but instead laid a hand on the baby's chest. She waited patiently until the baby stopped crying but to her horror, that wasn't the only thing that had stopped. The baby's chest had been steadily rising up and down as she fell into a slumber but just as Amy was about to go back to bed, it suddenly stopped!
"Kerry!" She screamed. "Kerry, wake up!" Kerry woke with a start and looked over to where Amy was standing crying hysterically.
"Amy, what's wrong?"
"Switch on the light, she's stopped breathing!"
"Who, what? Amy, you don't know........"
"For God's sake Kerry, just switch on the light!" Kerry sighed and reluctantly switched on the bedroom light to see Amy leaning over an empty cot.
"The baby!"
"What baby? You've been sleepwalking again!"
"But, it was so real! She was crying! How did I.....Where has......?"
"Come on, Amy, we've got an early start!"
"Pass me that guide, I think we took the wrong track." Rianne said to Lisa the next morning as they strolled along the small country lane.
"Are you sure? I think it is this way." Amy muttered.
"Trust me, I know this is the wrong way. Anyway, we can't listen to you, you're not exactly on top of things this morning after last night's ordeal!" Rianne teased Amy who went quiet.
"So much for a peaceful, stress free holiday!" Lisa laughed.
"No wonder she has so many cancellations, you're lucky if you get me to stay in that house one more night after what happened to poor Amy."
After four hours they finally arrived back at the house and all four girls started to get ready to go out.
"Kerry, have you got my pink top? I don't want to wear my white one in case I get any curry down it, oh and don't forget that we need to ask Rose for directions before we leave."
"Aren't you wearing any make-up tonight, Rianne, it'll make a change if you do!" Lisa asked, as she was about to get into the shower.
"No, I'll go as I am."
"You might as well, I won't be ready for another hour or so!" Amy giggled as she collapsed onto the bed.
"No, I think I'll just take a walk round the lake and see if it's ok for us to have a swim tomorrow."
"There's not much point dimwit, it'll be dark!" Lisa laughed.
Rianne sighed as she headed towards the door, "I know, but it'll pass the time." As she made her way down the stairs to the kitchen she wondered if there was much point going out, by the time they were ready she could have been there and back. She walked into the kitchen where Rose was chopping onions. Rose turned and looked at Rianne.
"You gave me a fright, you remind of someone who used to live here before I moved in, those fifty years ago."
"Really?" Rianne laughed. "What was her name?"
Rose started to say something and then stopped. "Never mind dear, what was you after?"
"Do you mind telling me where the curry house is again, I can't really get my bearings."
"She's been gone for ages, the lakes not that big!" Amy sighed, worriedly. "Let's go and look for her!" They locked both rooms and hurried down the stairs and out of the back door to the muddy area which Rose called her "vegetable patch". They linked arms as they carried on down the winding path, which led to the lake.
"Oh my God, she's only gone in for a swim!"
"When she said she was going to see if it was ok for us to swim in, I didn't think she was actually going to go in!" Kerry laughed, shocked at Rianne's braveness.
"Who would've thought that sensible Rianne would actually........"
"What's that noise? I heard a door slam!" Lisa said as all three girls turned to glance at the back door. "It must've been Rose." They turned back to the lake and Amy frowned.
"Where's she gone?" Amy said, panic showing in her voice.
"Rianne!" Lisa screamed.
"What, why are you shouting, and why are you standing out here in the cold?" Rianne said appearing behind them, Rose by her side.
"Where, what, how did you get here so quickly?" Amy asked puzzled.
"Well, who was that in the lake?" Lisa said as confused as Amy.
"Well, it weren't me! I took a walk with Rose to the curry house but the towns been closed and the roads are blocked off."
"Well, who was it then?" Amy said.
"You really, honestly saw someone"
"Yeah, and Lisa and Kerry saw someone too this time!"
"We'd better get help!" Rianne said, taking charge, as usual, when they found themselves in trouble. All four girls ran towards the house before Rose interrupted them.
"Girls, wait! I think there's something you should know."
Five minutes later they were sitting round the kitchen table, all eyes on Rose.
"That girl, in the lake, was Lucy, she used to live here before me." Rose looked at Rianne. "Remember I said you looked like a girl who lived here?" Rianne nodded her head, listening carefully.
"She lived here with her family, there was loads of them, that's why the house is so big! They had servants, maids, cooks, everything! Lucy was only eighteen but she got pregnant! She was so stressed what with the baby and her mum and dad shut her in room 13 as a punishment for getting pregnant, but my God, did they regret it! You see, to get pregnant so young, without a husband, was forbidden in those days. Anyway, one night, when the baby was a few months old, Lucy had been arguing with her mum and she locked herself in her room with a bottle of rum. It was her favourite drink, not just because of the strong Jamaican taste but she loved the aroma." Amy nodded in agreement, it was her favourite drink because of the distinct smell.
"The poor girl drunk herself silly and in a moment of stupidness she smothered her baby with a linen blanket until the baby stopped breathing...." They all glanced at Amy who was clearly distressed by what Rose had told them. "Lucy couldn't handle the guilt and when she realised what she had done she considered throwing herself off of the balcony but her mum came in just as she was near to giving up. Lucy finished off the rum and staggered outside to the lake, where she tragically drowned." Rose broke down in tears, as if she had been a part of this family herself.
"You're a liar, you're trying to scare us! No wonder you have so many cancellations, why are you telling us this? Do you get some kind of kick out of scaring your guests? I knew there was something strange about you, it's not this house, it's you! You're the one who's haunted!" Amy cried. The other girls looked at Rose who was obviously hurt by Amy's comments.
"Amy, you said yourself you saw a baby and who or what was that we all saw in the lake this evening, we know it couldn't have been Rianne."
"I know, but it's so hard to take in, there's all this creepy stuff happening and we can't control any of it."
"I know dear Amy, but I had to take all of this in too, I was looking forward to setting up my own business, it was my chance of a new way of life. However, it didn't work out the way I planned and the past started to come back to haunt me. My guests started to tell me of people they'd seen and how they'd heard a baby crying, that's when business went right downhill. You, girls, are the only people who've booked a room since I don't know how long. I was near to giving up and going back to Wales, my home town," Rose explained, tears in her eyes, "but when you girls rang me I just thought about the money, I don't make any profit anymore and needed cash to feed myself. It's wrong of me but when you've lived alone for so long in a house like this with people thinking you're a freak you can't help but think about yourself. Even if you girls hadn't of rang me I don't think I would have been able to leave here, it holds so many memories. You might think that I'm being stupid when I say that but when you've lived in a place for so long it becomes part of you." Rianne put a comforting arm around Rose.
"Well, let's think practical!" Lisa said calmly, yet she was shaking underneath her sensible outlook. "We can't leave here tonight, the roads are blocked and the weathers getting worse." They all looked outside as the rain began pounding on the windows. "I think that our best option is to go and get our stuff and then sit here with you, Rose, until morning. Then we'll leave first thing!"
"I agree." Rianne told Lisa. "Come on, let’s go and get our things. Rose, you'd better come with us."
"No, I, I'm going to sit here for a while." She walked over to a small pine chest from which she pulled a bottle of whisky.
"Do you think that's such a good idea?" Kerry whispered to Rianne who was already standing, ready to go and collect her things.
"I don't know and I don't care, I think she's a bit disturbed personally." Amy said. "I know that stuff really happened but who in their right mind would live in a house which has a phantom baby and mother."
"Come on, the sooner we get out of here, the better." The girls followed Rianne upstairs leaving Rose sitting at the kitchen table, already on her second glass of whisky. As they reached the second floor Lisa linked arms with the others and they all smiled weakly at each other. Amy, taking charge and trying to put on a brave face, carried on down the corridor until she was standing outside room 12.
"If we all go in together we'll be quicker!" Amy told them, slowly turning the doorknob and switching on the light. It didn't take long for them to gather up all of Lisa and Rianne's belongings, them being so tidy and organized. Although they hurried to collect up the last of their clothes they knew that what they had to face next was room 13. All four of them silently feared returning to the room, which had been the cause of their terror, but they were reluctant to let each other know and all put on a brave face. As they entered the room they tried to avoid looking at the cot that sat in the corner. Although it was still and posed no visible danger it was as if it possessed a strong, spiritual force, which was slowly starting to affect their mental stability.
Just as they began to throw all of their clothes into Amy's large travel bag, there was a faint creaking sound. They knew exactly where the sound was coming from but by the time they'd turned around the door had already slammed firmly shut! Amy made a bolt towards the door, frantically twisting the door handle until it came off in her hands. She turned to the others, the doorknob in her hand.
"Woops!" She said, grinning nervously. The others weren't amused; in fact Rianne began to cry uncontrollably.
"Could this get any worse? So much for a relaxing weekend, I should have spent the weekend with Kevin after all. After a weekend of this, rugby doesn't seem that bad!"
Rianne collasped onto the bed, she had given up all hope of getting out of the room. She watched helplessly as the others tried desperately, to force the door open but it was no good! They screamed and shouted for help in the desperate hope that Rose would hear them and come to see what was going on. No matter what they did the door would not budge, it seemed as if they were never going to get out. They were exhausted from their efforts and for the moment, didn't want to think about how they were ever going to get out. The girls sighed, joining Rianne on the large bed.
"Now what do we do?" Kerry asked looking at the others for suggestions. They stared back at her blankly, not knowing any more than she did.
"Perhaps we should just keep calling Rose." Lisa suggested.
"Don't be silly! You mean lose our voices in the meantime when she's probably passed out on the kitchen table. Did you see the amount of alcohol she had in that little pine cabinet of hers, and most of the bottles were open and half full?" Rianne told them.
"You've got a point! She was on her second glass of whisky when we left her!" Amy agreed. "Anyway, it took her long enough to get up the stairs when she was sober, let alone drunk!"
"So, what are we supposed to do, we can't sit here and pretend........" Lisa began before Kerry interrupted her.
"What's that smell?" The girls sniffed the damp, musky air, several times before Amy's face went pale.
"I'd know that smell anywhere, it's...........rum!" The other girls looked at her, sniffing again and slowly, they too recognized the distinctive smell of rum. Before they had a chance to react there was the sound of a glass smashing and the sound of tiny pieces of glass scattering across the floor filled the room. They all screamed in unison before the smell of rum, already lingering in the air, got stronger and a puddle of clear liquid appeared in middle of the floor. The girls sat in stunned silence, wondering why they could smell rum, where the glass had come from and whether they were ever going to get out of the house in one piece. Yet they partly knew the answers. The strange events that had taken place over the two days that they had been at "Moss Side" weren't some figment of their imagination, they weren't some mad stories that Rose had made up to scare them, they were real events. These things had actually happened and they were only just beginning to realize that this wasn't some kind of sick joke, this was reality!
All girls glanced at each other, stuck for words. None of them had a feasible explanation and knew that they couldn't reassure each other by putting it down to coincidence or chance. For a start, there wasn't a glass in the room to begin with, and the fact that the rum had appeared, when there was no alcohol in the room, was beyond their knowledge.
"I can't believe this is happening! Where did that glass come from? And I know, for sure, that there wasn't any rum in here because, believe me, I would have drunk it by now! I can't work it out!" Amy said in a panicked state, trying hopelessly, yet again, to open the door. Her eyes were filling up with tears and she was overcome by fear, emotion and frustration. Rianne put a reassuring, yet trembling arm, around her. It was up to them, as four best friends, to be strong for each other and to get out of this horrific situation.
"Sshh....." Lisa said, putting a shaky finger to her lips.
"What? What is it?" Rianne asked.
"I can hear voices, listen!"
"Look, shut up Lisa, I'm not laughing, ok? I don't want to know!” Amy cried.
"No, Amy, listen, I can hear it too! Sshh!" They all listened carefully, standing as still as statues and slowly they turned to where the voices where coming from. The narrow door, which had so mysteriously swung up, stared back at them as if it had a mind of their own.
"I think there's someone on the balcony!" Rianne said, slowly edging to the door, hand in hand with the others. As they reached the old, dark wood door Rianne suddenly grabbed the handle and twisted it, pushing open the door to reveal to the others that there was, in fact, nobody or nothing on the decaying balcony. They looked at each other, sighing with relief, wondering where the voices had come from, when to their disbelief, the voices started again, this time louder. It was clear to them all that there was an intense argument going on, and this time they all heard the voices and there was no mistake that they were coming from the balcony.
They tried not to make a noise, aware that if they did it would be obvious to who or what was on the balcony that there was somebody in the room with them. As they strained to hear what was being said the voices got louder and turned into shouts.
"Well, how did you expect us to react? You're 18 years old, for goodness sake! You don't have a husband or your own house, how did you expect to bring up the child on your own?"
"I didn't! Henry was there, Olive said she would too and I thought that you would support me."
"How many times do I have to tell you, Henry doesn't want your hand in marriage, he wasn't prepared to be a true father to your baby and as for Olive! Well, Olive's a chambermaid! She may call herself your friend but all she wanted was a chance to be a nanny, she didn't care about you or the baby! And as for myself and your father, we would have been the laughing stock of the town, imagine what a scandal there would have been if news of your pregnancy had got out. More importantly, the scandalous gossip that will be spoken in church on Sundays when they find out that you killed your own child. We had plans for you Lucy, your father had big plans for you, we wanted you to have your own estate and a husband!"
"Well, it's too late now, I've done it! You didn't want the baby, Henry didn't want it and I was starting to hate it too!"
The girls looked at each other in shock, realizing that what they were hearing were the voices of the mother and daughter who Rose had told them about. The girl, Lucy, was slurring her words and it was obvious, as Rose had said, that the rum had taken effect.
"We may not have asked for this baby, but she was our grandchild and although we weren't proud of you we still loved you and your baby. And you went ahead and killed her, you took a life, Lucy. Not just any life, your daughter’s life! What does that feel like? I hope you hate yourself for it!"
"You do, do you? Well, you're the reason I killed my baby, to make you happy! Perhaps you'd like to know what it feels like, perhaps you should just push me now and all your worries will be over. No more gossip, no more scandals! In fact, perhaps I should push you, there's no point in you living with the guilt that you forced your daughter to kill her own child and then commit suicide!"
"What?" They heard Lucy's mother cry out and all of a sudden a strong force flung the door to the balcony open and as a gust of wind blew through the room, whistling loudly, they saw a frail figure run towards them. They huddled together, closing their eyes and gripping each other’s hands tightly. The figure seemed to pass through them, however, as it did they felt a warm sensation and for a fraction of a second each girl was totally relaxed and the fear seemed to disappear. As this sensation passes and the figure of the young girl slowly faded the fear returned and sounds of a baby crying filled the room. Amy covered her ears as they rushed to the balcony to see what the girl had done to her mother. They expected to see a disturbing heap below the balcony but what they did see was even more disturbing! The hand that held tightly to the old, decaying railing of the balcony, started to change form. To their bewilderment, the middle aged, soft, delicate hands seemed to change into old, rough, worn out ones. They looked over the balcony anticipating what they would be faced with, each one of them was curiously dreading what they would see..........
"Rose!" Rianne cried, the sound of the baby crying still audible in the background.
"Rose? What.....? How on earth did.........?" Kerry asked, confused.
"I'm sorry, I........" Rose stopped, mid sentence, as they all heard a soft voice singing serenely.
"Hush little baby, don't you cry! Mummy's going to sing you a lullaby (MR RICH)
The girls watched Lucy as she sang the sweet song, wading deeper into the lake, before disappearing completely. As she stopped singing the sounds of her baby crying faded until they could no longer be heard. Kerry and Lisa's eyes filled up with tears and Rianne and Amy had already broken down in silent sobs. A single tear rolled down Roses cheek and she cried out her daughters name before slowly releasing her grip on the railing.
"Rose........" Rianne screamed lunging forward trying to grab hold of her hand, yet she had forgotten that Rose was dead and had been since that tragic night sixty years ago when her daughter, Lucy, had pushed her to her death. As she threw herself towards Rose's hand expecting to feel the weight of Rose's body tugging on her but instead she felt thin air and plunged over the balcony to her death.
"Rianne.........No."
Rianne Summers fiddled around with the frequency dial on the car radio until she finally found a station, then turned up the volume and began singing along with her three best friends. As they sang along to their favourite band, Rianne glanced out of the window at the tranquil Scottish hillside. She was supposed to be spending the weekend with her boyfriend, Kevin but the last thing she wanted was to spend the weekend watching rugby. So, when Kerry, Amy and Lisa invited her to go to Scotland with them she jumped at the chance knowing that she would be able to spend a quiet, relaxing weekend away from her busy home town of Basildon.
"Someone pass me the map, I haven't got a clue where I'm going!" Rianne said to the others who seemed to have forgotten the fact that she'd never been to Scotland before either.
"I think you take the next turning on the left." Amy West said looking at the map with a frown on her face.
"Rianne............No........" Amy West screamed from he back seat.
"What? Woah, calm down Amy! I was only doing twenty miles an hour and this road isn't that narrow, it's not as if we're going to go plunging down the side of the mountain!" Rianne Summers exclaimed, shocked at how loudly Amy had screamed.
"She weren't talking to you Rianne." Kerry laughed at her friends. "You know what she's like with her dreams!" Amy rubbed her eyes, looking out of the window at the Scottish hillside.
"I just had the worst dream!" She exclaimed.
"That's nothing unusual!" Rianne laughed.
"No, but this was really vivid, I felt like I was actually there. It was as if it really happened! I just pray to God that this b & b isn't as bad as it was in my dream." Amy told them seriously.
"Well, did it look like that?" Kerry asked, laughing with the others. Amy turned to see the large house, set on wooden decks, with dark walls half hidden by masses of overgrown, tangled creepers.
