The way in which the conflict and the brawl, which makes the violence of the conflict apparent is that the two servants Sampson and Gregory, are having a friendly fight against each other. ‘Put up your swords’. But then the other side in the form of Abram enters and starts to annoy and anger the other side. ‘Do you bite your thumb sir?’ Then the Capulet enters. ‘Give me my sword’. Then the Montague enters. ‘Thou villain Capulet’
When the prince says his big long speech he says about how the two sides have disturbed Verona on a whole. Plus what he is willing to do to stop the issue and violence. ‘You men, You Beasts’. ‘With purple fountains, issuing from your veins’. ‘You’re lives will pay the forfeit’. For the fact that they have disturbed everyone they will be put to death if they do anymore, to annoy the people of Verona or the prince himself.
The way in which Shakespeare uses Tybalt to highlight the conflict between the two families especially at the party is a good one. He does this as he uses Tybalt as the communicator between the two families. But Tybalt is very angry with Romeo, as he has come to the Caplets feast. ‘Tis he that villain Romeo’. He starts telling the other Capulet’s about Romeo. ‘It fits when such a villain is our guest’. He highlights the conflict by saying different things about the two families. ‘But the intrusion shall’. At the party Capulet tells Tybalt not to do anything to Romeo, even though he is at the party and not a Capulet but a Montague. ‘Content thee, gentle coz, let him alone’.
When Romeo and Juliet find out that they are on different sides, they feel that they must not be together. When they find out that they are enemies to each other, they dearn’t let there families know, as they could be a dangerous situation. When Romeo finds out that Juliet is a Capulet he feels that he has been betrayed in away. ‘Is she a Capulet?’ He also wants top stay away. ‘Away. Be gone’. When Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague she feels that her love has betrayed her and she does not know what to do. ‘My only love sprung from my only hate’. ‘That I must love a loathed enemy’. They can’t meet, as it would be dangerous, even though they still love each other. All throughout the conflict they are the pair in love at the bottom of it all.
To sum it all up, the way in which Shakespeare has shown the conflict to the audience is a dramatic and eventful one. With all of the conflict between the to families, from fighting physically, to name-calling. Also interfering with the different families, Capulet and Montague. To make it even more eventful, there is a pair of lovers from different families, then they are in a dangerous position from the families, they are the ones in the middle of it all!
