Throughout the play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth together demonstrate how ambition can turn a loyal soldier into a bloodthirsty murderer with his scheming and devious wife turning weak and disturbed as ambition slowly destroys her. This is a powerful and convincing evocation of a near-death experience. The language is very well controlled, with few lapses, and the scenes described so concisely are graphic and terrifying. In particular, the essay writer has a rare skill in using varying sentence length to evoke changing pace and produce impact. 5 stars
