1. Which do you believe was more important in maintaining the domination of Napoleon: Propaganda or the use of terror or both equally? Ensure you make close reference to the text (quote) and make obvious what your own conclusions are. You must make a clear case whatever your opinion. Be sure to refer to the language is used as a tool as well as the employment of the terror tactics.

In my point of view propaganda and the use of terror were both important in maintaining the domination of Napoleon. By printing false ideas and information to the animals plus by using terror in the right time and order, Napoleon slowly managed to over control the animals.

From the beginning, Napoleon was the only one from the leaders who used tactics, a fact that helped him a lot later on. These tactics also helped him expel Snowball who wasn’t as selfish as he was. As soon as Snowball was expelled Napoleon put his plan into action by saying that Snowball was a dangerous character and a bad influence and that was the reason why he was firstly opposed to the idea of building the windmill. In his propaganda he made the animals believe that the windmill should be built for their own benefit but he actually he wanted to use it to keep the animals busy building the windmill so they wouldn’t have any time to rebel.  Napoleon was creating the illusion to the animals that their lives would be easier after the construction of the windmill. Napoleon provoked hatred against Snowball to ensure that he didn’t have an opponent.

        Napoleon was able to manipulate the animals with his propaganda. He appointed Squealer who was his spokes person to transmit his ideas and finally pass his decisions to the rest of the animals. I can say that Squealer was Napoleon’s best weapon to use propaganda as he knew that Squealer was a brilliant talker. To pass his decisions was easy because Squealer was a very persuasive speaker who always managed to convince the animals about the ideas Napoleon was supporting.
