Why Hasn't India Suceeded at the Olympics?

 The last summer Olympic Games were held in Beijing city in 2008 and the 2012 games will take place in London, United Kingdom. London got the bid to host these games that will take place between 27th July to 12th August 2012 after beating the rival cities Moscow, New York, Paris and Madrid in a hotly contested voting on the 6 July 2005 in Singapore during the IOC 117th session.

India has been participating in the Olympics since 1900. It has shown some magnificent performance in Hockey at the Olympics.

India bagged 6 gold medals in Hockey from 1928 to 1956 an achievement which has yet to be beaten. They won the gold medal at the 1964 and 1980 Olympics as well.

India will compete at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. The India team will be made up of one female athlete competing in alpine skiing

In all India has won eight gold medals in hockey. However despite this wonderful show in hockey, India has been unable to garner any notable success in individual sports. When a country that boasts of a population of more than a billion is unable to secure even one gold medal in individual sports at the Olympics it is a matter of concern. India has won just six medals, none of them gold in individual sports.
