In the rainforest there are layers as shown. First there is the forest floor which is the earth. Then there’s the shrub layer which is where all of the leaves off the trees and the bushes are. Then there’s the under store or the under canopy which is where all the new trees are. Then there’s the canopy which is the fall grown normal size trees where most animals live. Then there’s the emergent layer which is where all the fall sized big trees are.
Task 2
There are 5 ways of exploiting the forest. The main one is cattle ranching. This is where people burn down a part of the forest to make a place for there type cow to live. After they are killed a sold as cheap beef, most of the meat is made into beef burgers. Another big thing that is destroying the forest is logging. This is where people cut down trees for wood two make furniture. The most demand tree is mahogany which can get about $500,000, but it also hits into other trees that are wasted. After they have been chopped down they are send two the saw mill where there made into furniture and other things. The next one is mining after they have chopped all the trees down they dig for minerals and other valuable stones, but they used a big hose which is a waste of water. There is also farming this is start like cattle ranching but not as must is burnt down. Then they grow fruit trees and plant other crops. Finally there is Road building this where people build road so they can get to the best trees. The people who destroy the rainforest are furniture companies and beef companies mostly American beef companies.
Task 3
There are benefits and disadvantages to exploiting the forest. The benefits are Brazil gets lots of money and income which is used to rebuild the shanty town of the big cites. (Really bad places to live) It also brings people out of poverty and improves quality of life and standards of life.
The disadvantages are the ecosystem it’s badly damaged, the nutrient cycle is broken, biodiversity is reduced, and there would be a loss of potential medical cures and most important of all there would be a loss of trees
There are many people who are effect by the rainforest the people who gain something are the poor people of Brazil, and the beef and furniture companies as they all get money and the poor people get home and get out of poverty. But the people who are affected are the Amazonian Indians, which get some of the home cut down every day and are even sometimes shot when they get in the way of the workers.
Task 4
As I said if the forest was cut down there would be a loss of potential medical cures and most important of all there would be a loss of trees. This is important because the more trees cut down the less co2 being exchanged for o2, there would also be more carbon in the world and there would be more global warming which would lead to rising sea levels, climate change and extreme weather. There would also be the effects of biodiversity which would mean losing lots of animals and food chains would collapse. Food chains would collapse because when all of the trees are cut down there would be nowhere for the animals to live and they would become extinct and the animal that ate the other animal would not completely become extinct but they would have less food to eat. An example of this happening now is the panda bear it only feeds on bamboo but its habitat is being chopped down and cleared for farm and to build new houses so they face extinction.
Task 5
We should help the rainforest survive but we need to do it in a sustainable way. This means that we have to do it so that all can benefit. There are many ways of doing this they are:
Ecotourism, this is where people come to Brazil and get a guided tour off of a person who knows the area. This costs a lot of money, which goes towards the shanty towns.
Forest reserves, these are parts of the forest that are completely protected from deforestation, it’s for animal to live in and to grow plants with medical cures.
Tree measuring, this is where the trees are only allowed to be chopped down at a specific height so the young trees get a chance to grow.
Afforestation, this is where went the trees have been chopped down the people who cut the down the tree has to plant new ones.
Selective logging, this is where only certain trees are allowed to be chopped down.
Eduction, this is where people are educated so they can help protect the forest.
I think the future conservation of the rainforest should be that the sustainable ways above should become laws of the Amazonian rainforest. This allows the people in Brazil to leave the shanty towns with little damage to the rainforest, and that will leave room for the Amazonian Indians to have part of the forest for themselves, also there won’t be a loss of a nice place and medical cures.
