Case study 2: A patient has come to the hospital to get an injection for a medication that he/she needs. The nurse who is giving the medication is a student in training who is from Birmingham University. The nurse has not double checked the medication she is giving the patient and just gives the patient any type of medication that has been given to her by another working nurse. She has not realised that she has given the patient the wrong type of medication and a few days later the patient has come back with vomiting and has come back figure out what is going on and why things are going worse instead of getting better. They have now realised that the wrong type of medication has been given to her and they have given her a diagnosis.
- How should you respond towards an accident like this?
You should respond by making sure that the patient is okay and she is being looked after in the right way and the right type of medication is being given to the patient. Make sure that the patient knows what type of rights she has towards making the complaints and how she can do if she has any problems that she would want to take further.
- What are the priorities towards an accident like this?
My priorities towards a accident like this would be towards this would be towards the other patients and making sure that they are okay and making sure that they are getting good service and ensure all the patients that everything is okay and is being dealt with by the head nurse.

The issues that may arise whilst in an emergency or an incident in a health and social care setting:
- The type of issue that could arise whilst in an emergency in a health care setting would be that whilst during a fire taking place the health care workers would be busy helping the service users that need help whilst getting out of the hospital. This can be a hazard because the thick smoke affecting the service users and the health care professionals.
- Another type of issue that can arise whilst in an emergency is during an evacuation. This could happen when a security breach has taken place or the fact that someone has broken in. the health care professionals would be helping the service users who would need aid coming out and taking their time trying to help everyone. The hazard of this would be things can be stolen because the doors are not locked so there is a chance for them to steal because they are in hectic process.
- A type of issue that may arise whilst in a health and social care setting would be that someone might have had an accident by slipping and the health care professionals would be trying to help the person but no one is communicating with each other and the fact that the patients would start panicking because no one is looking after them. Also everyone is arguing and screaming over each other that the problem is starting to get worse because no one has cleaned up the spillage on the floor which could give another accident to someone else.

Why the responses and priorities are necessary in an accident or incident?
The responses towards an accident or incident in a health or social care setting is necessary because it helps a situation become more easier to handle which is why there are policies and procedures that we must follow in a health and social care setting. In health care responses towards an accident is necessary because caring for someone is one of the things they do. Also they have priorities towards the other patients as well, if an incident has happened then they need to make sure that the incident is being taken care of and that the patients are in good hands and that their care is good and that they are in good health as well.
What would happen if they weren’t put into place?
If they were not put into place then a lot of accidents would be happening and no one would be caring for the person who has had the accident. Also if it was not put into place to take priorities then what would happen is that if someone has had a accident then everyone would be looking after the one person and they would not be thinking of the patients and their wellbeing, if no one was taking responsibility and people were getting into accidents like say a doctor slipping over some hazardous waste that has been spilled and not cleaned up after. If there was no responsibility in a health care then it would not be a safe place for people to be working because no one is taking the right type of responsibility they should be.
