Naomi is part of a nuclear family. During the day her 2 brothers will be at school and her dad will be at work. Her dad works in a factory and he works from 07.30 – 4.30.
So for most of the day the mother will stay at home and look after Naomi and her little brother.
Personality
Naomi is very loving and very intelligent. She is a happy child and loves to play with her 2 older brothers. As she is intelligent she is very mischievous and plays about a lot. She is very helpful and can be friendly. She has also got a sense of humour and sometimes can be very lively and ‘in your face’ a lot. She has got a bit of a bossy nature to her and she loves to be in charge and give orders.
Home and local area
Naomi shares a bedroom with her 8 year old brother. She’s got a front garden and a back garden where she can play, but there is no special play area for her in the house. They don’t have any safety precautions for Naomi. She doesn’t really need a stair gate as she is very confident in her walking. She has quite a lot of toys which she can play with:-
- Musical toys
- Teddy bears
- Dolls
- Dolls house
Physical Development
Gross motor skills – Naomi is a very good walker and is very confident at it. She can climb the ladder of a slide quite easily and is a good balancer. She can climb the stairs easy but needs to hold on to the banister. She can throw a ball but she can not catch one. She can kick a ball but not very well. Sometimes when she jumps she loses her balance, but apart from that she’s alright at it.
Fine motor skills – Naomi is good at picking up small objects and can easily place them down carefully. She can open and close doors. She can just about reach the handles of the doors so she pulls them shut and can open them as well. Naomi is also very good at doing her zips but can’t fasten buttons yet. She can build with bricks well, she can easily hold pens and pencils.
Sensory Development
Naomi usually uses taste to explore, everything she sees she will put it in her mouth or try and put it in her mouth. She is starting to come out of that phase now and she is starting to explore a bit more. She sometimes will touch it or just observe it if she is not familiar with the item.
Intellectual Development
Naomi is very talkative and communicates very well. She can hold a conversation with you as she is very bright for her age.
When answering you, she uses full phrases and sentences. Naomi always uses hand actions to help her communicate with others. So when she is talking about something in the house/room she will always point at it.
Naomi has a wide vocabulary for her age and she knows all the names of the family members. She knows all the household items, from speakers to curtains. She also knows the names of most of her toys. The parents and siblings encourage Naomi a lot in her language development as they have loads of nursery rhyme books and they sing them a lot during the day. Naomi is now familiar with the basic nursery rhymes and can sing along with them, for example: roll over, and row row row your boat.
Cognitive development
Naomi knows about colours and can name all the colours of the rainbow. She can count up to 10 but she can not recognize them. For example, if I drew a number 7 she wouldn’t be able to tell me it was a 7. She knows a few of her shapes e.g. circle, square, triangle. She knows a bit about time, as she says that when it gets dark the moon and stars come out.
Social Development
Naomi is generally well behaved, she is very loving and nearly most of the times says please and thank you. She is not selfish, she loves to share with other people especially those of her age. It depends what mood she is in, but most of the time she will take turns when playing with people. Naomi behaves differently when she is around people she doesn’t know. When she’s around strangers she is more cautious in what she does, but when she’s around her family she is just herself. Naomi is a confident speaker and gets on quite well with adults and children of all ages. Naomi has temper tantrums only when she cant get her own way. She doesn’t really get a lot of chances to meet other adults and children, as she doesn’t go out that much anymore because her mother has got another baby in the family. So it is hard for them to go out nowadays. Naomi is toilet trained and she will, most of the time, tell you when she needs to use the toilet. She is capable of feeding herself and can dress herself as long as there is no buttons involved. She can dry her hands and face after washing and is capable of cleaning her teeth, except that she just eats the toothpaste.
